Best campsite I've ever been to. Loved the fact it was adults only - making it an incredibly peaceful and relaxed site. The campers kitchen is fantastically useful as it has several freezers and fridges. There are also two sinks with washing up bowls, sponges, liquid etc. The showers and loos are a short walk from the tents and have a plug for hairdryers, straighteners etc.

We didn't attempt the walk to Lyme, but found it to be a very good base for driving in and out. The pub nearby served very nice food, with fresh, local fish and was reasonably priced.

The lady (who runs the site) is a lovely person and very kind - the sort who restores your faith in humanity! I also loved the fact the site is so eco friendly!

Lovely campsite, great facilities, lots of fridge and freezer space. Each site is nice and big and great to have your own space. The picnic benches for each tent are a great bonus saves you taking a table. An unusual but welcome bonus to have your own barbecue space for each site as well. Only a short distance from the fantastic Hix Oyster & Fish House. Also a great pub located just around the corner.

Another happy few days at Hedgehog with glorious weather. Joy was on top form sharing some of this years stories of fellow campers, both good and amusing.

We love this place, it offers everything we look for in camp site and more! Adults only, good clean showers with plenty of hot water and 3 fridge freezers! So never a problem finding a home for the wine and food. Once you get used to the odd car driving past on the A35 some 400M away there is nothing to disturb the peace and quite of this place. With Lyme Regis and the Jurassic coast only a few minutes away by car, Hedgehog is perfectly located.

Reassuringly expensive and with only 10 pitches available. Keep it to yourself and don't tell anybody how lovely this place is, otherwise we'll never be able to get in! (wink!)

Stayed here for 4 nights of glorious weather.

Secluded site set back from a pretty busy road.

Site is pretty sloping although flatter at the top. There are flat bits that have been cut out but most of these seemed to be a bit rutted due to rabbits digging so we just camped on the sloping bit which was fine. Nice to have a picnic bench for each tent.

Just one shower each for men and ladies but never had to queue. Plenty of hot water, and a plug if you bring your own hair drier.

Campers kitchen with sink and 3 fridge freezers which was great as the weather was very hot.

The owner was rather dramatic when we said we would be using our bikes to get about. She basically said don't bother it's too hilly, it's too busy and you'll be killed! We did bother and it is very hilly which we knew and the road down to Lyme Regis was very busy, but there are plenty of quieter back lanes (still as hilly) but luckily we made it out alive.

Lovely pub about 10 mins walk up the hill (the busy road), but worth the visit as food is lovely.

Pretty expensive site £25 a night for 2 adults although no cost for anything else.
Management response: We actually care about our campers here and it's a shame this reviewer didn't recognise this fact in the first instance rather than make it a point of mockery. Far better, when asked, that I am utterly honest with my description regards cycling around here and keep cycling campers safe, particularly those who are new to the area. Campers are then well prepared if they do decide to bike.

The tariff here reflects the peacefulness with no children, groups, pets, caravans or motor homes.

We have spacious tent only pitches, restricted numbers of solos & couples, easy use of facilities, picnic bench, fridge freezers, clean facilities, lashings of hot water and an owner who is a font of local knowledge being born & brought up here

We stayed at Hedgehog Corner on the first May bank holiday weekend of 2013. The site it lovely, one of the nicest I've experienced.

We did not have a stipulated arrival/departure time which meant we were able to arrive at 10am on the Saturday with no problems. The field for camping is huge for the number of pitches the site is licensed to accommodate, certainly no danger of feeling crowded.

The ladies bathroom facilities consists of one toilet, sink and shower in a combined unit; which is also mirrored for the gentlemen. Alongside this there is one unisex toilet and sink. Owing to the small nature of the site this is sufficient (although there is the inevitable wait for a shower at peak times). The showers had plenty of hot water and were tastefully tiled. They were spotlessly clean whenever I visited. I'd recommend you take some shower shoes.

The owner has gone out of her way to add finishing touches that really makes this site lovely. Simple things such as telling guests where the biggest and cheapest car park is in Lyme Regis is, and proving fridge/freezers free of charge.

All in all a wonderful stay - thank you!

Good location close to Lyme Regis. We stayed on this site for 8 nights & despite the typical UK wet & windy weather, we had a lovely relaxing break away.

The campsite has a max of 10 tents even in peak season allowing amples of space around your tent, although the majority of the pitches are on slopes (we were lucky & had a flat pitch).

The field itself is dark, making it perfect for star gazing.

Facilities are good. Inside washing up area with fridge & freezers. Male & female shower and wc, and unisex wc, sockets available for hair dryers & charging mobile phone.

The owners are very friendly & have some good tips for eating out. Bus timetables are available on site, with easy access buses to Axminster (river cottage canteen).

Pub 5 min walk away from site (torch is needed).

Overall, a hidden gem which allows you to relax & enjoy the surroundings.

Have stayed at hedgehog corner several times and will return as soon as we can. We love the location. It is so convenient for visiting gorgeous Lyme Regis and so many other great places in the area.

We especially love the fact that the owner, Joy, is a real 'foodie' like us. There is a great manual in the kitchen and shower building with handy information such as bus timetables, info on the cheapest local car park and recommended places of interest, but the best of all are all the eating out recommendations made by Joy. We have yet to work our way through the full list but so far all have been spot on.

Having the use of a freezer is great for refreezing ice blocks and also having a fridge means there is room for some bigger bits if necessary. There are two washing up sinks with hot water, one inside and one outside.

The wet rooms are great for those who have smaller tents and need a private WC and shower all in one cosy room, with real doors (unlike a lot of camping facilities where shower curtains stick to you whilst the queue of campers laugh!) There are two wet rooms and one unisex WC with sink and mirror.

Though the site is on a slope, which gives lovely views of an evergreen forest, all the pitches are 'cut out' of the slope so are perfectly flat, and all accommodate a good sized tent. Ours is a 4 berth mid family sized tent, even though there are only two of us. There are also wooden table/bench sets at each pitch which are perfect for spending the evening looking at the beautiful sunsets, then sitting out watching the stars.

A great site if you want peace and quiet in a lovely setting away from noisy children and big groups of loud campers.

Pitch suffered from bad rain / floods over the previous weeks, so the field was closed for car access. This was very annoying as we had to walk up fairly steep filed with all our stuff. Pitches were cut out of the slope which was Ok for small tent, but we had to go towards the top of the field where it's a bit flatter as we have a larger 4 man tent. The fields had not been cut recently so our shoes got wet walking up and down. When there was a dry spell it would have been nice if the owners had at least mowed some paths to the tents. The shower room was ok, sinks, electric points etc though the women said that their shower did not seem to have as much hot water as men's. The floor got a bit grubby due to walking from muddy field, and could have been cleaned a bit more often due to these conditions. The view from the top of the field was nice. Location was good for Lyme Regis which was nice. Also walking along the coast path was nice when the sun came out. Visit to Beer for walking was very nice and worth doing. Wifi access would have been handy, though it was available if you stood right near the main

Buildings but that's not very convenient so Wifi in the main field would have been better.
Management response: Unfortunately there was unprecedented rain in the first week of July 2012 (recorded on national and local TV) and nearby Axminster flooded. Fortunately we are on a slight slope & stayed open (unlike many others).

In such unusual circumstances for Health & Safety campers were asked to use the car park, accepted & understood by the majority. There are large flat areas for tents at the top and bottom of the field - we do not charge extra for larger tents.

Grass is regularly cut but we can only cut dry grass. This is a clearly described rural camp site with no tarred drives and the detailed information on the web site suggests you bring suitable footware for field and shower/wet room.

We do not advertise as having WI FI (this is a field!) but it can be picked up near the campers kitchen (with free use of fridge freezers), which is a nice free bonus.

Campers facilities are checked every time we walk past, some 20 times plus a day - there is also a general mop which anyone can use. During bad weather we make extra efforts to keep the floors clean with various mats and extra moppings.

If I remember correctly this camper and his friends were attending a wedding at nearby River Cottage so they probably chose our campsite for its convenience to either walk or take a short taxi ride as their overriding motivation for staying here

My friend Elaine and I stayed at Hedgehog Corner as we were visiting River Cottage HQ. It really is a lovely site for camping (and is also a B&B).

Each pitch has its own picnic table which is very useful, the showers were very clean and the kitchen had fridge-freezers for your use. The surroundings were lovely and peaceful.

The owner was fantastic. Very friendly and was always happy to help. The site itself is situated in a good position with Lyme Regis (a lovely place to visit) only a short bus journey away.

The site is also less than two miles away from River Cottage HQ and Axminster. It is easy to access by bus.

Highly Recommended for those who wish to camp in peaceful surroundings as Joy limits the number of campers to the site.

Would definitely visit again.

Just had a wonderful weekend stay at Hedgehog Corner. Perfect set up for a foodie weekend involving river cottage HQ, Lyme Regis and River cottage canteen.

Camp site owner is a very vibrant lady who knows how to help you get the most out of the local area and run a proper hospitality business (she also runs the adjacent B&B).

A great deal of thought has been put into the facilities so that the balance is right (eg. Small number of showers but nicely done out and kept properly clean for a small number of pitches). Also found the picnic benches a nice touch after normal camping trips spent scrabbling around on the floor for the whole time.

Site is pretty geared towards smaller tents as levelled off areas are about the size of an average 2-3 man tent. Absolutely acres of room between pitches. Quiet and as other reviewers note the stargazing is amazing.

Overall a good base for a good, grown up, holiday experience.
