This is our fourth visit to this site and it never disappoints. Very large pitches

New toilet block 2014

Shop and restaurant bike hire all on site

Nice pool only downside no umbrellas for shade

Good mix of nationalities

Very friendly staff who all speak English

Not a lot in the immediate vicinity, but only a short drive you will find all you need beach, supermarkets and small seaside towns. Lots of cycling on the doorstep

This is not a commercial site no entertainment

Where to start! This is a wonderful site with so much to do in the surrounding areas.

We stayed on a serviced pitch which was huge and in a great location. The nearby toilet and shower block was spotless and cleaned regularly. The staff were very friendly and the campsite shop well stocked - I enjoyed my morning stroll to get the croissants every day!

The pool was a fair size although it was cold despite the blazing sun. The rules do say no balls allowed in the pool (something we didn't notice initially) so my daughter was told she couldn't play with her inflatable beach ball, which was fair enough. However, this rule was consistently applied as the were often others using balls in the pool!

Its a site I would definitely stay at again and I can see why many people do return every year.

This is the second time we have visited this site after we left our caravan in storage with them last year. The site itself is in a great location for touring the Royan area and is in easy access of the local beaches and towns.

The facilities on the site are spotless with plenty of showers, washing up areas and toilets. The latter would be better if they had seats. The pool area is clean and tidy and very child friendly. There is a food take away bar that we used on our first night after arriving late and also a restaurant with a bar. The children's play area is situated in a large sand pit and has numerous slides, swings, roundabouts, climbing frames and table tennis tables. It is more than adequate to keep young children happy. Although this can be a bit noisy at the peak of the season, what is better than hearing children playing?

The staff on this campsite are more than willing to help and nothing is a trouble to them. We had left our caravan in storage with them last year and when we arrived it was washed, levelled off on the pitch and ready to use. This cost us 260 Euro's and we did not have to pay them until we returned.

On a down side. This park is full of British who like to display their countries flag from poles on top of their caravans and have flashing lights surrounding their awnings and going up the flag poles. This was enough to make us cut our stay on this site short and move to an area with less British on it.

Stayed on this site for 13 nights. It is a huge site with large pitches and was very busy when we arrived. Predominantly English visitors, a selection of tourers, tents and statics. However, there are no pitch separators so privacy is minimal and discourteous short cutters through pitches are a regular occurrence! We we lucky enough to have a pitch near the water tap but from what we saw there are very few on site. The children's play area is one of the best we have seen although there is no shade at all at any part of the day. The pool was large but situated a very long way away from the pitches so a bike or for some a car is essential to get to it. There is no shade at the pool and very few chairs or sun loungers. The toilets blocks are in need of some upgrading and perhaps more frequent cleaning as the toilets were more often than not in a less than desirable state and always very smelly. If using the loo after 9pm you needed a torch as lighting was not good. The weather was amazing but with it comes biting insects so I would recommend anyone coming here stocks up on mosquito repellant and sting relief products as well as ant powder as there are so many trees here that there is no escape! The area itself is fantastic, beaches are amazing and the site is a good base for visiting the numerous places of interest in the vicinity. Having viewed several other sites in the area during our stay, this one appears to be the best of a bad bunch. Would visit the area again in a heartbeat but would probably seek out an alternative sight first

Drove down from Saint Malo, arrived on site 4 15 pm with one stop, We use the Auto route as we like to make the most of our time in France. Friendly welcome in reception, very good English spoken, shown to our pre booked pitch and told where everything was. We'd booked a Grand comfort pitch with 10 amp electric, which was huge, 30m from the shower block which was always clean and never overcrowded. Toilet paper was not in the cubicles but on a big roll on the wall as you walked in

We had some shade as the pitches are set back against the pine forest, leaving a huge open space betwwen the camping area and reception and the pool, which was ok. No slides but about 7 foot at the deep end. We used the restaurant on site which was fine, but didn't bother with the on site shop as there are plenty of supermakets within 15 minutes.

Beaches are only 7 or 8 minutes away. Saint Palaise sur Mer and La Palmyre are nice little towns with cracking beaches. The Zoo at La Palmyre is worth a visit.

If you have them, take your bikes, cycle paths everywhere.

Talking to Christian in reception, He said about 65% of his customers were returning British. They have a big storage yard so a lot of people leave there van on site. There were quite a lot of Dutch on site during our stay.

Would return.

We stayed here for a week in early August.

It's a family-run site. It seems 'mum' does reception and 'son' shows arrivals to their pitch. Both were happy to converse in French or English or a mixture! Friendly efficient welcome. You pay the day before departure. 20 Euro deposit in cash required on arrival for a key for the barrier.

Good-looking, well-kept site. Large open playing field between reception and pitches.

Pitches indeed are big. We had asked for shade and got it. Good that we did as weather was good (apart from arrival and departure days) and temperatures in the high 30's. A pitch in full sun in that heat would not be an option for us - yet that's what many had.

Pitches are generally marked by shrubs or trees in the corners but there is little or nothing in between - where you would perhaps expect hedges. This means in some cases you would have little privacy, and also means some people use acres of wind-breaks or washing lines strung between trees.

Electric hook-up is available with options on Amp rating, so it's worth working out what you need beforehand to ensure you don't pay for a higher rating than you actually need.

Certainly the 'regulars' are abundant and there seems to be a subtle clique amongst them. It feels a bit like a Caravan Club site, just relocated to a hot place.

I think the wash-blocks are the site's Achilles. They are unisex which in itself I don't mind, but when there are queues for toilets in the mornings, I imagine many ladies do not like 'hot-seating' with men. The showers varied in quality and there were often queues for those identified as the better ones. Water pressure generally was frustratingly low. Water temperature in the showers is non-adjustable, and often rather hot. Toilet roll is provided but only from a dispenser outside the cubicle, which often ran out. Urinals in the main block just too smelly to consider using. Baby/toddler bath facilities are available but in very short supply.

There is hardly any artificial light on the site at night, which I liked, however this extends to the wash-block so if you do need to pay a visit in the night you may need a torch.

The site is nice and quiet at night. The noise suddenly stops, usually, at around 11 and the quiet time is generally very well observed. We did though experience a lot of noise on our last night with several British groups, and a French motorcyclist(!), keeping us awake until after 3am. No management around monitoring this.

Plenty to do and see in the area, although if you want an evening out you will probably need to use the car.

Not a great deal on-site for teenagers, apart from each-other.

I thought the on-site shop was a little bit naff, but there are several supermarkets, big as you like, within a short drive. Traffic at peak times going towards Royan can be very heavy and slow.

The site is reasonably priced in comparison to others in the area, I think, and the spacious shady pitches are great to come back to after a day on the fabulous beaches. I'll forgive the slight issues with the wash-block, and we will return for sure.

We stayed at this site in the height of the summer holidays. Despite its overall size, even when its full, the really large pitches means you don't feel that it's crowded at all. We'd requested a partially shaded pitch. It was a really hot week, so I think fully shaded would have been fine. Full sun would not have been good.

All the facilities on site were really useful - the shop with fresh bread, croissants, etc. Every morning - the take-away, and the restaurant served great food, though perhaps the menu is a bit limited.

Our daughter used the pool - which was only heated by the sun and a bit chilly - but we preferred to go to the beach.

The beaches are a short drive away, and, because of the geography, for most of the beaches you have to park on the roads, and walk through the sand dunes to get to the beach - probably only 1/2 mile, but bear this in mind if you're carrying boards, etc.

If you go west, to the Cote Sauvage, please be careful of the sheer size of the waves, if you've got little ones. I'm of slight build, and found when the swell and tide combined, the sea was just too rough for me to stand up in. But that was after a good few hours of some of the best bodyboarding we've ever had!

For the amount of people on site, I feel that just 4 washing machines is too few.

Also, I agree that the hygiene in the toilet block could be better. They were cleaned regularly, but not to the standard I would like.

The showers were nearly always busy, but I never had to queue - we tended to avoid the busy times anyway.

As has been said before, the majority are British people who come year after year. I think we might be joining them, and returning to this site in the future.

We spent 13 nights on this site in August 2011, on the recommendation of friends.

It is a very pleasant, spacious, and well kept site, with nice large plots. It is a few miles away from the coast, which you can reach within 5-10 minutes by car. We noticed that the campsites next to the sea had much smaller plots, and were much more crowded than this site.

Some of the plots are in a wooded area which is very shaded, we had a partially shaded plot which lost the sun at around 6pm, if this is an issue, ask for a sunny plot.

There is a restaurant on site which also does take away - we used it several times and found it to be good value. There is also a small and fairly well stocked supermarket on site, plus another supermarket & restaurant opposite the entrance to the campsite.

The toilet blocks were okay, although could have been kept just a bit cleaner in our opinion, a minor complaint was that they kept running out of toilet paper(although it was high season).

There is a play area for the children on site which kept our three children happy, and two swimming pools near the camp entrance - although we preferred to go to the sea.

It is clearly a very popular site, where people go year after year - our next door neighbours who were French, had been visiting this site for over 35 years. It seems to be a very popular campsite with the British and especially people with caravans - we didn't see that many tents on site, although the pitches are fine for camping on.

In the surrounding area there is plenty of outdoor attractions - the main attraction being the stunning coast line and miles of white sandy beaches - a big hit with young and old alike. If you have prolonged bad weather I suspect you would soon run out of things to do!

Overall it was a good, quiet site (no loud evening entertainment), which I would certainly recommend to others. If we were to return to this area of France we would consider visiting this campsite again.

When we arrived the staff were very helpful and friendly! The location wasn't brilliant as it was a 10 minute drive to the nearest beach, but we took our bike and round the back gates of the site was a lovely cycle route on flat road. The facilities were fab and were very clean. The pitches were the biggest I had ever seen! The food was really nice but was a bit overpriced. Whilst we were there we bought a caravan and we stored it there for a year. For that year we returned during every holiday it was open and camped out for a couple of day. Overall I rate it a 9 out of 10!

Great feeling of space with large pitches among trees with some in full sunshine.

There are three sanitation blocks all kept very clean. They got very busy in the early evening but other than that there were no queues. The water was always hot.

The site was busy with many children but never felt crowded. There was family entertainment with circus and a clown act the week we were there. These entertainments tour the local campsites throughout the summer

It's very peaceful at night, all the main lights go off at 11. 30 so there is no light pollution and you can see the stars.

The staff are very pleasant and happy to understand you in English or bad French. The food is reasonably priced in the restaurant and there is a separate takeaway service. The camp shop was quite well stocked (in August)

The sandy soil means that rain soaks away in minutes and clearing up a bit of sand beats mud any day.

It is a ten minute drive from a beach. But we found little difficulty in parking close to the coast (free) despite it being peak season. The Coast is lovely the French chic of Royan, wide beaches, dunes and wild coast further north. Dogs are not allowed on the bathing beaches during the summer but are OK in the dunes and on the wilder un supervised beaches.

There is a cycle track at the back of site which joins a quite road that takes you to the cycle track where St Palais meets the Cote Sauvage. The wooded dunes extend from the campsite to the coast but it's a serious hours walk, the dunes undulate making the going quite hard and paths run in all directions so a compass (or gps)and a map is handy

There is a ferry from Royan to Verdan across the Girond It's €3 each way for a foot passenger. The coffee is very good and comes in a proper cup. At Verdun there is a lighthouse museum but there is mostly lunch.

Île d'Oléron is an interesting trip crossing over 2 bridges (toll free).

There is a good market every morning in St Palais and the market in Royan is a bit like Harrods food hall at first glance.

We took the opportunity to look at some other camp sites nearer the beach as we plan to return the area. Most are cramped with rented chalets taking up the centre of the site and tents and caravans slotted in. There are a couple of good sites near the beach at St Palais but pitches are small so you have to decide if you want space or proximity to the beach it does not seem possible to have both. We will go for space and return to Le Logis Du Breuil even though the “sur-mer” in Saint-Augustin-sur-mer is stretching a point.
