I have to say this was my least favourite site during my 2 week tour of the dordogne. Dont get me wrong its lovely but just not my cup of tea. The pool was lovely with great views. The main reason I didn't like it was we had come from sites with all open pitches, I like the feel of this type of pitch where you can see everything going on. Our pitch though large was down cul de sacs with high hedges making it feel very closed in, the grass was non existant. Had a meal one night, the most expensive set meal on menu, thought it was very average. It felt much more mass scale eg happy hour, 12 spirt shot cocktails etc. It was the most expensive stay we had plus wifi was chargeable where it had been free on other sites. Nothing at all wrong with site, just not for me.
Had electric bikes and cycled to Montfort, had a lovely lunch at the little place there. Nothing much else you can cycle to.

The staff at check in were very friendly and helpful. The check in quick and easy. The site was prob 50% full(camping pitches anyway) but never felt over crowded at all.
He pitches were very spacious and all surrounded on 3 sided by quite tall edges making them very private. The only negative I could say was the grass quality wasn't very good but it wasn't a problem
We were on the part next to the river and the toilet block there was immaculate and very clean, the showers were ok with enough room to get showered without soaking your belongings and you can alter the temp. Of the water, which is always an advantage when getting a bit sunburnt.
The restaurant was good value although if you don't like duck in some form or other there's not that much choice but the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The snack bar during the day was again value for money and the quality was very good as was the main restaurant.
The bar was well stocked and there's a games room.
There's a shop where you order bread for the next day, they also sell basic stuff and wines and beers.
The pool area is brilliant, although I didn't bother going in the unheated pool ! the heated one and the children's one was warm though, and there's a couple of water slides as well.
The indoor pool is obviously new and was still being finished off although we were able to use it when the weather wasn't up to much, the only negative was the whirlpool wasn't working.
The setting of the campsite is fantastic right by the river, excellent scenery.
Off site we had a visit to sarlat which is gorgeous and went to the chateau at bernac which is the worth the climb up the hill for the views down the valley alone.
There's loads of sleepy villages dotted all around, though if your on your bike there are some quite sizable hills as well.
All in all we had a lovely time.

I generally agree with the preceding comments. Helpful staff, good facilities - especially the new wash block on the river side, sensible restaurant prices, and the steak was the tenderest I've had for a long time.
My one gripe centres around the internet connection, not that it is very important on holiday! Quite expensive per day, so a weekly ticket was bought at €20. Trouble was, it was off 6/10 of the time!
Lovely area, and the Chateaux are great!

Just returned from what is the best holiday in France we have ever had, Soliel Plage is in a superb location The site is in a wooded valley with the Dordoigne river just meters away, The site facilities are superb from the spotless toilet blocks to the fantastic restaurant serving superb local cuisine. The staff always polite and friendly and very good english speakers if you don't speak french. Visit Sarlat a few miles away and Domme, two of the nicest French towns we have ever seen. The pools were cool and inviting and a good place to cool off in the 34 degree heat we had, got up to 40 one day, phew what a scrocher. Local supermarkets were very good, we used Le Clerc mostly only a few kilometers from the site and stocked with everything you could want. Buy yourself a Lilo from the site shop and walk up through the fields and launch yourself on to the Dordoigne and float all the way back down to the lovely sandy beach near the site or stop off at the Bistro across the river for lunch. In short this site is a must for everyone who loves France.

Just returned from a fabulous holiday at Soleil Plage. It was our first time here and wont be the last. This site has 5* facilities and the location is perfect. It is right at the side of the river Dordogne, there's access to a safe sandy beach ideal for canoeing, paddling, fishing. There are two touring areas, one located near the complex which we didn't like, one near the river which is fabulous. There are two shower blocks near the river and one is new, its well equipped and there is a washing machine for 5 euros which includes powder and a dryer. There are several children's play areas dotted around the site. The site is flat so ideal for cycling. The pool complex is clean and one of the pools are heated, there are two slides which were well used. You have to wear wristbands for entrance into the pool and children under 8 are not allowed in on their own, there's a lifeguard on duty.
There is a kids club ffrom 10-12 most days and at nights they have kiddies discos and karoke, they also have themed evenings in the restuarant which you can book and pay for. We had one meal in the restuarant and it was fantastic value for money, a 3 course set menu for 14 euros, kids 8 euros and a litre of wine for 10 euros, the food was excellent and you need to book a table.
The reception staff speak good English and they are very helpful. The bar area is relaxed and has a good feel to it, they have to areas to sit out at night, one is more for families and a quieter one round the corner. This site is geared up for families and there was a mix of English/French and Dutch which we liked, although I would say mainly English when we stayed.
The pitches are well equipped all with water/elec (no adapter needed) waste on the premium pitches near the river (we stayed on these). When you book if you have a large unit make sure you ask for a larger pitch as some pitches are smaller and some are huge! We got a satellite signal so we could watch the Olympics!
Everyone was friendly on the site and a lot we spoke to have been coming for years, its a popular site and I can see why, we all loved it. We enjoyed it so much we have reserved our pitches for 2013 and are coming back.
The site is very close to Sarlat and there's a good Leclerc supermarket which is very cheap and sells everything including fuel. There is also an excellent family cycling route near the Leclerc that is an old railiway line, its been tarmaced over and families use this, it goes for about 27. 5 kms and there's several stop offs. We only managed a small area of it but kids loved it, there's a car park at the start of it. Loads to do in this area and its a stunning area. Beynac et cazenac is gorgeous, loads of picture postcard villages and considering its a busy area most of the roads are quiet and very easy to drive on.
All in all I would recommend the Dorodogne its fantastic and this site is perfect.
Its 520 miles from Dunquereke and the tolls cost £88 return, very quiet roads and easy journey, site is about 30 mins from the motorway and an easy tow.
I think this is the first site I have given 10/10 for everything?

We spent 5 nights at Soleil Plage recently. First things first - the location is stunning, on a beautiful stretch of the Dordogne river which is excellent for swimming or canoeing. Sarlat is a lovely town, well worth a visit but do try and get there early as it gets very busy.
Pitches are reasonably sized and shady, and the shower block was modern and clean. There is a very full program of activities and entertainment for kids and families.
However, the downside for us was the noise levels on the campsite - if it had stopped at 11 then that would be fine, but on several nights it kept going into the early hours, in fact on one occasion we were woken at 2am by young kids running around shouting and screaming. The owners ask for quiet after 11pm but don't seem too bothered about enforcing it.
So - probably great if you have kids and like big campsites with the facilities and entertainment that come with them, but definitely avoid if you want somewhere quieter and more relaxing.

We have stayed at Soleil Plage twice. August 2010 and August 2011 both times in our own tent. We love this site and the location and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
There are two distict camping area's and we have been lucky enough to be on both. The first year we were near the river on the site furthest from the facilities. It is a little walk from the main swimming and reception areas but we bombed around on our bikes so this wasn't a problem. We had a spacious pitch with water and electric hookup. There were two shower area's and both were clean, one block is slightly older but still fine. Good washing up facilities and a children's play area. Only negative is the biting insects which I think were worse on this side of the site.
The second year we were in the camping area near the restaurant. Again this area is lovely. I was worried the road would be noisy but this wasn't the case. The atmosphere was friendly and there was a lovely children's play area and good toilet/shower facilitites. We had a spacious pitch with water and electric.
In the evening there is a varied entertainment schedule. Lots of live bands etc. For families with children that go to bed early be warned it is noisy from both camping areas, however this goes silent at 11pm and to be honest we were mostly enjoying the entertainment ourselves so this wasn't a problem. Who goes to bed early on holiday :)
We booked directly with the campsite through the website which was easy and we had no problems. It was value for money.
The location of Soleil Plage is fantastic, we are keen kayakers and although there are a lot of companies which hire out canoes/kayaks along the dordogne we used the one located at soleil plage which was very convienient (even if it was a couple of euro's more than others). We also swam in the river a lot which makes a good alternative from the swimming pool. The swimming area is lovely with great slides, kids loved it.
The surrounding area is not to be missed. Sarlat is a must in the evening with street enterntainers and an amazing atmosphere. There are fabulous chateaus and historic villages along the river. Gouffre-de-padirac is a fantastic day out and we also visited a historic town set high in the rocks which was excellent.
We like to go back again but I think we've exhausted the Aquitaine region and will probably try somewhere different.

We were here for just over a fortnight, mid August. Family with kids 12, 9 and 2, using our own tent.
I note that our stay overlapped with one of the other review writers. In fact I think our kids were friends! Any how:
The surrounding countryside is lovely, as are some of the distinctive nearby towns. My initial impression on arrival was great.
Approaching the site along the narrow road through the golf course had me doubting my navigator, but passing a neighbouring campsite and reaching the end of the road you see the canoe hire facility and realise you're in the right place.
Follow the road round the bend, into the site itself and there's a large lay-by, on the left oddly, where you can park whilst you check in. The reception / restaurant building is up some rather nice stone steps.
In my case the receptionist appeared to be Dutch and gave a warm welcome and a lot of information in excellent English. A deposit of 2 Euros per adult is required for a Velcro wristband to access the pool. Wristbands are available for children over 10 if you wish them to use the pool without you.
Wi-Fi is available across the site for 7 Euros per day or 20 Euros for a week.
Visitors (grandparents staying at a nearby hotel, for example) are allowed on your pitch without charge, but they are not allowed to use the pool at all.
There was a good atmosphere on the site with a healthy mix of nationalities, becoming more predominantly British as the season progressed. Luckily the other Brits were generally the likeable type.
There is a modest Eurocamp presence, which is mainly statics.
There are two distinct areas of pitches. From reception, one is back on yourself, and the other is farther on beyond the playing field. Ours was on this far side, where pitches are arranged off a series of parallel avenues, each with about 6 pitches each side.
The first pitches each side are large, but the others, the majority, are fairly small. All are well shaded. At the far end of each avenue are a pair of pitches which overlook the river and the magnificent cliffs on the far side.
These pitches are superb places to be. Not so the majority of pitches though, such as ours which was only 8m x 8m and offered views only of the pitch opposite. Hedges between pitches are a good height, and they are dense, but fairly thin. This means if you try to maximise your space by pitching up against the hedge, and your neighbour does the same, you will be sleeping uncomfortably close to each other!
The wash facilities at this end of the site are indeed great. Split between two adjacent buildings which are a bit baffling at first. The older one has a bit of everything, including particularly excellent dish wash (stay-on taps, adjustable temperature, and very hot water always available).
The other building I guess is only open when in demand, and has extra toilets, wash cubicles, and a few toilets. All facilities are unisex. Toilet roll is provided in the cubicles. Soap is only provided in the older building's toilet area.
Pitches in this area have electric, water and drainage on them, however in reality the water and electric points are together in the corner of sets of four adjacent pitches. Taps are high pressure quarter-turn variety and are difficult to use if you do not have a filler hose nor water hook-up to your unit.
I noticed several campers had not found the drain on their pitch, and having struggled to find mine I can see why. It's not any where near the tap, and it is a capped pipe rather than a grid. In my case a previous occupier had buried it under soil, presumably to contain the smell.
The site is very popular, and books up early. Clearly some folk book for the following year when they are there, and I suspect this is the only way of getting a pitch with a river view. Pitches have sparse grass, and get muddy in rain and dusty in dry weather. Some folk tarp their entire pitch.
Larger motorhomes are put on unmarked, sparsely shaded pitches alongside the playing field.
The pool area is good, but forget serious swimming at anytime during peak season. I tried both ends of the opening ours (10am till 9PM) and someone always kindly jumped in on top of me. Great for the kids to play in though, and some will enjoy the unsupervised slides.
There are 3 pools of different types including a shallow one suitable for toddlers. There is no lifeguard most of the time, but when I did see one she was very low key. More policing or supervision of badly behaved kids would have been welcome. There are the usual sunbed issues.
Evening entertainment varied in quality and type but was fairly consistent in being audible across the site until about 11pm. Sometimes it was a live band, or maybe a line-dancing troupe, or maybe just a site-organised family disco or bingo.
I did not see any sign of night-time curfew enforcement, and a little of that would not have gone amiss.
Play areas for kids comprise 3 quite small facilities spread across the site. The biggest is adjacent to the wash blocks described above. There is another by the pool which also has some outdoor gym type devices, and third rather pathetic offering for the area of pitches nearer to reception.
We enjoyed the river! Many campers used their own canoes, but they can be hired. Hiring can include a trip in a minibus before or after canoeing in a down-stream direction. Swimming in the river is great, but children need to be very closely supervised. Currents and depths are deceptive and canoe traffic can present a hazard. At times swimming across the river was like trying to cross a motorway of novice drivers and accidents do occur.
If there's a downside to the site it is the lack of somewhere to go for a stroll in the evening. Sarlat is lovely, but too far for that purpose.
Eating out: apart from what others have said, I would recommend lunch at the gardens at Marqueyssac. Good salads and wonderful views.
Overall we really like the site (even if that doesn't come across in my tone) and also the area, although I would only return to this particular site if I could get a river-side pitch.

This was our second visit to this site (last visited July 2009). We returned because our 18yr was keen to revisit friends he had made (many people return year after year it appears), because our 8 and 11yr old loved the pool and play-area and the adults also had an excellent time. Staff are helpful, friendly and speak excellent English! The site is ideal and the area area beautiful. Sarlat is lovely, busy during market days (Wed and Sat)and relaxed each evening. Rockamador is well worht a visit, as is Domm and Rock St Christopher. During both visits we had lovely weather, a fantastic thunderstorm (both times)but in the main sunshine and heat.
Our pitch was near the toilet block and play-park during our second visit which was ideal as we dragged friends along with us who have 4yr old girls so it was handy being so near the facilities. The toilet block was clean and the shop well stocked but a bit over priced! Bar prices had gone up since our last visits but this time we went for a meal in the restaurant which was excellent - good value and very scrummy. In speaking to people it was obvious that the restaurant was best avoided on a Friday or Saturday night as it got really busy and service was not as good as on the night we went.
Second time around (as with the first)we all had an excellent holiday and when you consider that this time there was 12 of us in our party that is no mean feat! We will return.

This was our second visit to this site in 2 years. The difference in the level of the river was amazing, it must have been 3 to 4 feet lower than last year. We had the same very nice sized pitch just 1 back from the river side pitches. We came back to this site because we had enjoyed our stay here last year even with the river so high and no sign of the advertised beach as it was under water. The setting is one of the best I've been to in France along side the Dordogne river. The site itself seems as though it was 2 separate sites at some time and then amalgamated into 1. The lower part nearer the river all having there own water and drainage and the upper just hook ups. This is a well laid out site with some improvements from last year giving you a lay by area to park up while you booked in at reception. The facilities are good though mixed for the toilets, curiously though not for the showers. I never had to queue for either and the push button showers ran on long enough for you to give yourself a good rinse.
The beach area, now visible this year was good for adults and children alike. I enjoyed a nice cooling swim here on a very hot day. You could also hire canoes from the site which gave us a few good hours pleasure. The food in the restaurant was good but not cheap. We enjoyed the pool which was not supervised or busy but we were out of the peak season. I think my only criticism is the fact that nothing except the shop was open on a Monday, not the bar, take away (these were open last year) or the restaurant. This didn't go down very well as this is the day we tend to arrive at our destination in France. I should add that a lot of places are closed on Mondays in France especially restaurants so be prepared.
If you are in this area Sarlat is a must in the evenings, loads of eating places and street entertainers. A longer haul would take you to Rocamadour, well worth a visit. I enjoyed the peace and the setting of this site and will probably go back at some time.
