This is a very large site and we were glad that we had booked a riverside pitch. They are very spacious and quieter than other parts of the site. We knew there was a hedge separating the pitch from the (presumably public) footpath and river but it was disappointing that we couldn't see the river when sat outside.
The location is truly stunning - the river goes from very shallow to deep quite unexpectedly with occasional strong currents so you would need to keep an eye on younger children.
Our teenagers loved it and spent most of their time in the river rather than the pool. It was a great way of cooling off as it was very hot whilst we were there (37c+). We also did the 25km canoe trip - they bus you to the start point, you go past the campsite and they bus you back from the end point. Took us about 5 hours but was fairly easy going - we had to wait ages for the bus back, though, and it ended up as an 8 hour day.
There were two toilet/shower blocks and all were communal. Queues for the showers would build at around 6/7pm, they were also on a very short timer. Lots of unaccompanied kiddies messing around which I found very irritating. Also, lots of small children cycling all over the site, many with absolutely no road sense whatsoever.
Reception staff were helpful, informative and spoke excellent English. The shop closes all afternoon and has very little stock, certainly nothing that you could cook or BBQ for dinner. As the nearest shop/supermarket is 10km away in Sarlat, it really pushes you to using their restaurant/take away if you're running out of food. The restaurant is quite good - average 13 euros for a meal or set menu but the menu is fairly limited.
We booked twice and didn't need to as there was plenty of space. The third time, after a full day out, we just turned up and they wouldn't give us a table despite the fact that lots of the 'reserved' tables failed to show!
They said we could order takeaway and eat it in the bar seats which we did but then the maitre d' wasn't happy about us taking cutlery to eat our pizza. We thought the takeaway food was very poor and the service was slow (35 minutes). We vowed to spend no more money at the campsite after that.
The campsite is quite isolated. The area is hilly and the roads are narrow, windy and bumpy. Even with fit and energetic teenagers, we were not happy to cycle the 10km to Sarlat.
We had hired a car for three days and went to Rocadamour, Les Eyzies, Rouffignac, Lascaux, Padirac. If you want to see any caves with prehistoric paintings, you will need to get there very very early, apparently lots of people rough camp nearby and start queueing very early morning.
They only have a certain amount of tickets and tours each day. We queued for 1. 5 hours at Padirac but it was well worth it - the caves are enormous and absolutely stunning plus you have an underground gondola trip which was good fun.
Sarlat is wonderful. We dropped the hire car off at 5. 30pm and stayed for the evening, had a wonderful meal in the main square and watched all the street entertainers.
The plan was to catch a taxi back - be warned, the numbers on the taxi rank were not answered (went to message service). The patron of the hotel over the road said that they had finished (at 10. 30pm?) and was very helpful - ended up driving us back himself, what a star! The Reception at the campsite offers a 'deal' of 30 euros return which we would recommend you take - think it's more like private hire than 'on spec' taxis.
We had a lovely time in the Dordogne and will definitely return. To Soleil Plage? To be honest, no we won't. Overall we were disappointed - very English, very busy, too many small and noisy kids, average facilities and nowhere decent within walking distance. We thought it was poor value for money.

This was our first time taking our van abroad and I think this site has set a high standard for any future holidays. This is a stunning site, the staff are very friendly and always happy to help. It is very clean especially the toilet/shower block and wash up area, there was never any wait for showers, even though there were a fair amount of people at the site (mainly Brits, Dutch and French- all very friendly also). The swimming pool area is beautiful, the countryside around you as you swim is breathtaking! Our kids (6 & 8yrs) loved the pool and spent hours in there.
We had a riverside pitch- definitely worth the extra money, lying in bed looking out at the view each morning was priceless and you can't beat having your breakfast next to the river! The food at the restaurant is of excellent quality but we thought a little pricey, we only ate there once as a special birthday meal!
There is loads to do in the surrounding area, going to the market at nearby Sarlat on Wednesday (small market) and Saturday (large market) ia a must- lots of great nick nacks! We also went to Roque St Christophe and Castlenaud, both worth a visit.
There are lots of other interesting places to go but we spent most of the time just relaxing at the site as it's so quiet and tranquil there. The highlight had to be cannoeing down the river, we got dropped off down the river and cannoed back to the site, it took us 2 and a half hours, just right for our children.
All in all we had an excellent holiday and can't wait to book again for next year!

Stayed on this fantastic site for 2 nights in Summer 2010 on a tour of France in a hired motorhome.
We wish we'd booked for a week. The site is fantastically placed right on the riverside and the facilities are absolutely top notch. Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The area is very pretty but as it was only a flying visit can't comment more, other than to say, we will be back.

Visited this site with another family of teenagers and what a fantastic place to go. The kids had a great time with very friendly Dutch and French teenagers and took themselves off to the river each night to sit around a campfire talking! Pool area adequate and although not lifegaurded there is a pool supervisor who like to show off his swimming skills which are not brill but a good laugh!
Carrefour supermarket in sarlat next to macdonalds better value and much cheaper than Casino and Leclerc. Sarlat on an evening is lit up by Gaslight and worth a visit. Canoe down the river for fantastic views 15K cost 15euros and took 4 hours but was not hard work due to the river flow and only 1 hour drive to Rocamadour.
The toilet and showers were never short of hot water and always very clean and staff very helpful pitches good size but the ones near the river probably quieter but more mosquito bites, take your pick. Good entertainment with live bands. Swim across the river and go down past the restuarant opposite head toward the road and left and take the small path up the hill it brings you out on top of the cliff over looking the camp site for fantastic views down the river and the whole valley.
Very special place and will be visiting again as there is loads to do in the area.

I have mixed feelings about leaving a review for this site as I really don't want to risk not getting a pitch next year!
This site is in the most beautiful setting I have seen. We had a riverside pitch which was a really good size and we were with friends who had the pitch next to us so we had loads of room. The view from our awning of the river and the gorge was just stunning. (as previously mentioned there is a solid hedge between your pitch and the river so not a worry with younger children)
We only stayed for 4 nights but managed to fit in a canoeing trip down the river which was very relaxing and great fun and a lot cheaper than the one we did the previous week in the south of France. We also walked up the river with our inflatables and then floated back down to our caravan and did a little fishing but only caught little fish!
The toilets and showers were clean, plenty of hot water and no queues. Shop was ok for basics but a bit of a missed opportunity really as there are no other shops within walking distance.
The pool was lovely, enough to keep 14,12 and 8 year olds entertained for a good few hours. There is also a park which the younger children enjoyed and there were children's activities available although mine did not attend. There is a programme of events (children's clubs and evening entertainment) for the week ahead which you are given on arrival.
We had a lovely meal at the restaurant on our last night which we felt was excellent value for money, 5 x 3 course meal, half bottle of wine, some soft drinks and a coffee for 100 euro is a lot less than we have paid at other areas. We were all very sad to leave this site and even after just 4 nights felt really relaxed, I am slightly worried that if we stay for longer next year we may never leave!

Stayed in static on site for 1st time ever instead of taking our tent and pleasantly surprised.
Agree with previous reviews - shop not well stocked and often closed & restaurant very overpriced with limited menu & slow service. BUT - there was a group of approx 20 people who all turned up at same time which probably put kitchen under strain!
Beach nice, good for swimming, kayak hire good price for the day and went to some gorgeous places. Definitely recommend a trip to Rocamadour for a day - if you can manage the steps, phew!
Town too far to walk and not much about but drive to Sarlat which is pretty big and definitely worth a trip, especially on market day.

Site was v. busy when we arrived but was noticeably 'winding down' a bit toward end of week stay eg. restaurant was closing and other parts of the park too. We were however very appreciative of this excellent and spotless site in a gorgeous location. Pool area was fantastic. Quite a cosmopolitan mix of other campers, mainly very friendly Dutch and German visitors and of course Brits. The site is an excellent location to base yourself to explore all the wonderful places of interest - too many to mention!
Suffice to say the site is now enthusiastically added to our 'select' favourite sites and we eagerly look forward to returning here next year and many more to come.

Just spent 9 days here, would definitely return to Soleil Plage.
The campsite is effectively divided into 2 part which are separated by the campsite entrance road. One area is by the reception, shop, restaurant and pool area. The other part of the site are the pitches down by the river.
When we booked we had asked for a large pitch to accommodate our large tent, we were given pitch 52, which was large however it backed onto the access road to the site. Perhaps not a problem in a motorhome or caravan, but in the tent we were kept awake at night as some staff left for home in cars and motorbikes and woken early by the delivery van and the dustbin lorry! I think the staff thought I was being a bit funny when I asked for a move to the riverside pitches for peace and quiet. They all spoke good english and by the end of the day and with a bit of persistence we moved to pitch 174b, three pitches back from the river. This was a much quieter and peaceful location with great views of the gorge.
Good points.
Location, by the river which gave loads of fun for swimming, exploring, fishing (15E/30E for 1 day/15 day licence) and kyaking ( we took our own and had no problems launching on the river). Loads of visitor attractions nearby, we went to Sarlat, Castlenaud, and Roc St Christophe.
Wash blocks, nice clean free hot showers, never had to queue. Dishwash block also very clean
Pool, no attendant but most children were well behaved on the water slides.
Bits to improve.
Camp shop very very expensive, not much stock and closed between 12-5 pm.
Restaurant. Put off by the very expensive menu. Everything seemed so much more expensive from our last site a week earlier in Btittany.
Pitches were a bit crammed in,we had just enough space for our tent and car, so make sure you specify you requirements when you book. If you want a quieter pitch then ask for down by the river.
We would stay here again but would not do the drive back to Calais in one go. Big mistake! Perhaps next time do a stop over near Orleans.

We spent 2 weeks (end of Aug.) at this site and agree with the positive aspects of other reviews.
The only downside was that our first week was spent in the camping area behind the bar and we hadn't bargained for the late night (extremely loud) noise spilling out from evening entertainment (nearly every night). Disappointingly the noise carried on until nearly midnight and was of course followed by further noise as people made their way back to their units. Unfortunately our pitch was also near the wash block and the diligent cleaning staff often woke us around 6.30/7am with their chatter and work. We did consider leaving but as we'd managed to book our 2nd week by the river, we stuck it out - and I'm glad we did. The whole river area was much more peaceful and pitches bordering the river are fabulous (there is a fence and hedge to separate pitch from river banks so no panic over the little ones).
The pool complex was great, really clean and interestingly laid out but was also very busy and it was quite a challenge to find a little space to swim in. We didn't even attempt to find loungers.
The shop was fine for basics such as daily bakery delivery, dairy, cooked hams, dried goods, small choice of fruit and veg., wines, drinks etc. However, you need the supermarket for fresh meat and variety.
We tried a takeway just once: 2 small chicken drumsticks (v dry), 2 homemade burgers (delicious) and 4 (generous) standard portions of chips. This cost 30 euros but even with a more favourable exchange rate, this was poor value.
We would definitely return as it is a lovely site and a great location - but I would be very picky about the pitch!

We have been coming to Soleil Plage for many years. Each year there are new improvements and investments.
This year we tried the new superb 3-bedroom chalets Prestige. With so much comfort(2 shower-room, 2 toilets, dishwasher, deep freeze fridge freezer, microwave and much more, we should speak of Outdoor hotel. That doesn't stop mixing with 'real campers' at the heated pools, at the beach along the river, in the bar, the mini-market, the delicious restaurant quite affordable.
We got a fishing permit, but we didn't catch much. The highlight was the morning canoeing down the River Dordogne, along the medieval castles and villages. It's very safe and as customers, we got 10% discount.
Lovely family campsite: nice playgrounds. No noise after 11p.M.
