Very nice, well laid out campsite. All the usual amenities - shower / toilets clean and well maintained.
Splendid views over the sea and out to a lighthouse at night. Great site for climbing slieve donard - the start is almost on the campsite.
I would recommend this campsite to anyone except loud / raucous groups.

We stayed at the weekend. Cracking views. Great spot. Easy found. Pity about the rough track up to the campsite, I think that might put a lot of people off, not us though. Great location. Very busy, granted it was the weekend of the air show and the campsite is just outside Newcastle.
Love the strict no alcohol/music after midnight. Frank is a lovely man. We did hear some very loud music being played from the bottom site (we were at the top)in the day/evening time but thankfully it didn't last very long. We did notice the logs weren't easy to light (must purchase off Frank and use his fire pits supplied).
It was a great campsite, a great trip, stunning views, with the Mournes behind and the sea infront. We did hear people saying they wouldn't use the showers because it was only sectioned off by a curtain and while the male and female parts (2 showers and toilets in both male and female parts) had separate doors they were technically in the same building, so for safety reasons the general consensus was people didn't feel it was terribly wise/safe. Everywhere was clean with soap and toilet paper etc.
The approach up to the showers began to get tricky to walk on in the rain as the area was just hard walked in muck with no grass but if you stick to the edges it's spot on.
We will definitely be back and very much looking forward to it.

Hauntingly beautiful campsite, with the mountains behind you and the seashore just a stroll down the hill and across the road. The campsite is a hidden jewel, coming up from Newcastle look out for the Bloody Bridge car park on the left. The entrance to the campsite is just past the 2nd exit to the car park. There's a white gate but nothing to say its the campsite.
The Bloody Bridge trail starts right next to entrance to campsite. Go up the steep, stony road then follow the signs and pitch wherever you like. Frank the owner will come and check in around 6. 30-7pm and sell you wood for the braziers which are in fact in good nick and excellent for BBQ's if you've got your own grills.
The toilet block/showers are clean and pleasant with instant hot water. Dishes must be washed in the sink at the back of the block. It is a clean and very natural campsite.
The views are incredible. At night you can see the lighthouse down beyond Newcastle We had sunny weather with only some rain and wind. We were very sorry to leave but will definitely go back as it was probably the best campsite we've stayed on.

Spent 2 nights here in early May. Paid £6 per person per night. The campsite is in a beautiful location with the sea just below and at the base of the Mourne mountains.
There are 2 toilets and showers for females and they are very basic. It was windy and wet a lot of the time during our stay but we also had a day of perfect sunshine and enjoyed lunch at a picnic table of which there were several on site. We didn't go for a fire although we had planned to because the fire pits that we saw dotted around the site were very rusty.
The seaside town of Newcastle is 2. 5 miles away and has many little shops and cafes. I would recommend this campsite if you are looking for a back to nature experience.

As mentioned by others, the approach is interesting! But follow the 'wee man's' instructions and you shouldn't have a problem.
We arrived at dusk in the rain. Next morning woke to sunshine and splendid views - great location. Stayed longer than intended, just because we liked it.
Facilities very clean and pleasant, might get a bit crowded if the site was full.
We go camping to get away from it all and this site does just that.

My son and I had our first camping experience at Mourne Camping and it made it go a lot more smoothly than I had anticipated. The site is very clean and tidy. The entrance is very tricky and we did miss it at first. My only complaint would be the road up to the site, the potholes are very big and really could do with being filled in.
The views from this site are beautiful with the sea in front of you and the mountains behind.
The facilities are very clean and tidy and the owner is very thorough about keeping the toilets stocked up with toilet roll, handwash and paper towels.
It was also very good to know that the site is very well patrolled by the owner regularly through the day and evening, he is always on the end of the phone should you require anything.
We enjoyed it so much that we are heading back there this weekend again and can't wait.

Stayed at this site for one night with my son before hiking up bloody bridge and Slieve Donard. I found the entrance quite tricky as it was just a field gate and no sign (just shut the gate on it).
It is also on a busy stretch of road across from Bloddy Bridge Carpark and beside the entrance to Bloody Bridge itself so be careful. The lane itself is a reasonably steep climb for the car into the site with large puddles.
I used our small car and should have brought our jeep as I would have felt more confident in the 4x4 if it had rained (fortunately not)on the lane and site due to the mud track nature.
It is situated in an excellent location to access the Mournes and has view of the sea. It is handy (by car) to the local seaside town of Newcastle for all you supplies and needs- shops, Tesco, Lidl, fast food etc.
The price was £6 per head per night and you can pitch where you like. Fire wood is supplied by the owner (only his allowed) for £6 and he also supplied the metal basket to burn it in. There were 28 logs and in the morning we still had 15 pieces remaining.
Whilst this is fantastic to have a real log fire the only difficulty was the sparks created were blowing towards my tent and others. We didn't pile the fire high because of this (probably why we had lots of wood left and would have been enough for a 2nd night).
The toilet block was very clean with 2 showers (in the males I presume the same in female). They were clean and amazing thing is the was hot water in the showers and taps. The dish washing area was around the back (outdoors with roof)and was clean and again lots of really hot water at the tap.
I found the owner really nice and strict about noise and music. This was good as there was lots of families. He told me to phone him at anytime during the night and he would come down and sort things. He would rather he was phoned and sort things out at 2/ 3 am than people telling him in the morning.
There we a few groups of young people having a few drinks but didn't cause any issues. He did speak to them on a regular basis reminding them to keep the noise down. In the morning he checked with us if there were any issues which was nice but we didn't have any.
Apart from the mud track access road (he did have a tractor to pull you out if stuck) this was a good site for access to hill walk in the Mournes.

We stayed on this camp site for one night when the Festival of Flight in Newcastle was on. The site is close to Newcastle town centre only 2 miles away. There are some nice walks around this area and the kids had good fun on the boulders at Bloody Bridge itself.
The campsite is small with a toilet and shower block at the far end of the site. We found these to be clean. However a sign for the toilets and shower area would be helpful.
It would be useful if the signage on site was clearer eg inform campers that the must purchase a kindle pack from the owner (£6) before lighting a fire. Perhaps some written guidelines should be issued as you enter the site, we saw no one until 9pm.
The site has a no noise policy after 12 midnight which is fair enough as there are families on site we even had 3 children with us.
We paid £6 per person per night and we have stayed in other campsites with better facilities for less. By charging per person not per tent can work out to be expensive when you have a family.

Initially hard to find. But rang camp site phone number and we where met at the gate. The gate is right beside the bloodybridge trail.
You just have to open the gate and drive on up yourself and the owner will call with you sometime that day.
Campsite very clean. Toilets and shower clean. Basic site but quiet and well maintained. The best bit I found was that we could have a camp fire.
It was lovely sitting there at night in the dark with the camp fire burning. You have to buy a fire kit(£6) from the owner which consisted of a fire lighter and a few logs but it was worth it. It was just me and the wife this time, not sure if its the place for kids unless they can amuse themselves as there is no play area.
Perfect for mountain walks. Had a great stay and would definitely go back.

We spent two nights on the site in July and the weather was fantastic. We were a party of 4 in two tents. The location was perfect being so close to fantastic scenery and local town.
The toilets were unfortunately situated at the top of the site. It would be better if there was a second block in a more accessible area. Whilst the toilets were cleaned we found they were often dirty and had no loo roll by the afternoon as the site was busy.
We were glad that we could barbecue and light fires however the logs we purchased from the owner did not burn well and we were not permitted to burn our own bought from town. This was disappointing as we were only informed after our purchase had been made.
The site has a no noise policy after 12pm which is fair enough as there are families on site. However it was disappointing to find that we were asked to go to bed despite only four of us having quiet conversation with no music, when we could see and hear other groups who were very loud and refusing to comply. This was particularly disappointing as at this point we had no neighbouring tents that we could of been disturbing.
In my opinion 6 per head, considering the very basic facilities and poor access is too expensive.
We had a fantastic day our on the river and took a lot of great walks which were fantastic. Local supermarkets are good value for money although it would be totally impractical to come here without a car.
If an investment was made in this site to make the road more accessible and signposted and to improve/enlarge toilet facilities this would be possibly the best campsite in the area and be worth the price per night.
