Just returned after a lovely weekend. The couple who now run this site have only been in the job 5 weeks and are learning quickly taking advice from owners who use the site. They had only been there 3 days when one of the previous reviews had problems but they sorted it when they were made aware within 2 hours. The owners are welcoming and friendly.

The shower and toilets were very clean. The owner told us they have plans to update and tidy the site.

The pub and the food they serve is very good. The Chef is excellent. Cawood is a lovely village with plenty of walks the locals are friendly. There is a well stocked post office and mini market. Good bus service to York and Selby the stop outside the pub.

Looking forward to returning and seeing the improvements.

Just stayed 2 nights. It was supposed to be 3 but we didn't enjoy our stay. A chaotic check in but we were able to use any available pitch. 2 travelling type caravans on site complete with transit vans spread out over 5 pitches. Toilet and shower were filthy and the chemical waste point was blocked and full. This may be why some residents were using the grass between caravans as a toilet! No one about to check out at 11am on Monday morning. No one answered the phone or showed when we banged on the pub door. We shoved the money owed through the letterbox.

This could be a nice little site with some work and management but it will be a long time before we go there again. I am just glad we didn't bring the Grandchildren.

A great little site with plenty of space for each unit. Central to visit lots of surrounding areas like Selby and York. Pub on site which are really welcoming and serves great, reasonably priced food. Looking forward to returning and would recommend to anyone preferring small more basic sites where you don't pay for fancy additions you don't need!

Just stayed 2 nights we would like to thank the owner for her great hospitality and lovely food. The site is lovely and peaceful. The shower is big and clean, plenty of hot water. Good and secure site. Beer is a very good price for a pub. Would stay again and would recommend to everyone

Thanks clive and julie

Just returned from a weekend at the castle inn park and what a lovely little site it is, a friendly welcome from the owners on arrival and everything we needed to know explained. The site itself is small but that's what we like, was happy with the locked gate and toilets/shower block which I must say were clean and well kept.

The castle inn itself is cosy and welcoming and cannot fault the landlady for her helpfulness and friendliness, we booked a table for Saturday night and ordered the castle pie. My oh my this was delicious and a huge portion too and there wasn't anything I could fault lovely veg etc. All in all we had a fab weekend and will definitely be visiting this lovely site again. A big thankyou to the owners for making our weekend so enjoyable.

We have just stayed for two nights at the Castle Inn Caravan Park and have to say that has been the friendliest site we've ever been to!

It offers easy access along good roads (if a bit narrow in the village) and is well situated for York, Selby and some lovely, unspoilt countryside.

From arrival to departure we were given the impression that nothing was too much trouble, and so it went on.

Pitches were of a very good size and all had an electricity supply; although at only 6 amp, it was quite easy to trip the fuse. Grass coverage superb and well kept and with nice mature trees dotted around the outside to offer shade.

The toilet and shower facilities were reasonably basic, and only one of each for each gender, but very clean and quite adequate for the site's size - we never had to wait and there was always plenty of hot water.

We ate in the pub on our first night and, if we hadn't already brought our own bbq stuff, would had done so again the following evening. Food, beer, service and hospitality all excellent. Their website states 'good home cooked food and plenty of it' and they didn't disappoint! We left for our caravan well fed and watered and very pleased with the value.

All in all we had a really enjoyable weekend and will be back again soon.

We stayed at the Castle inn for 3 nights midweek in May 2013, Absolutely Fantastic. Me and my wife stayed with our little dog, We went in the pub the first night for a lovely meal, the food is first class and I would strongly recommend the steak pie. The landlady is great and cannot do enough for you. The price of the food and drinks is probably the cheapest around. It's a really nice old traditional pub.

The site itself is well maintained, very private and also very quiet.

There is only 1 shower in the men's block, but it's by far the biggest I've been in and I never had to wait for a shower, the water was nice and warm too. ( and are free unlike a lot of sites these days).

There are some really nice walks around the area and also some other pubs, there's the Ferry inn which was also nice and welcomed dogs and the Jolly sailor which we didn't try but had heard it had just been renovated.

There is a bus stop just outside the Castle inn where we got a bus into York ( 10 mile trip) and Selby another day (5 mile trip).

Overall we loved it and will definitely return.

Booked in for a 1 night stay when we arrived the Landlord gave us our pitch number as we arrived on site, allowed us to set up before booking in. In the pub we received a friendly welcome. The site is clean and secure. The access gate is locked at all times but you are given a key and there is pedestrian access.

Facilities are clean and adequate, hookups are only 6amp. We had two excellent meals in the pub which were tasty and good value. There is a bus service into York from the pub or drive a short distance to Mcarthur Glen shopping outlet and use the park n ride. Nice riverside walks in the historic village.

The only point that some may dislike although it didn't bother us is the sound of the church clock marking the hours. It's not excessively loud but may bother some. A really enjoyable stay and we will return in the summer.

Just stayed a single night on this site on a cold (2 deg) and rainy December Saturday night.

Arriving early afternoon we popped into the bar to 'check in'. The welcome was warm with a cheery (and quick) explanation of the basic rules re the keys for the camp site gate and access to the male/female toilet/showers.

From first seeing the access gate tucked away in the rear corner of the pub car park all concerns about access were soon dispelled as there was sufficient room to manoeuvre on the site.

The site is a single sheltered field with 18 pitches. We were on a level hard standing pitch (#2) which had electric hookup(6 amps) and a water supply. All other pitches looked to be of a similar size. There was plenty of room for an awning if required.

The facilities were basic and clean and well stocked with essentials. Obviously well maintained.

The Castle Inn serves hot food which we didn't sample on this visit, and some fine drinks (which we did sample !) boasting some wonderful Black Sheep ale, and some nice wines. Plenty of locals looked to be enjoying the food and the menu looked to be good traditional fayre.

All in all an excellent site in a nice village, we'll definitely look to return

Stayed her with my two boys (2 and 8 years old) and is an excellent campsite. Owners very friendly and helpful and child friendly in pub. The field is well serviced and the toilet block is clean and very well maintained. One night was a little noisy but the owners apologised in the morning as this was a student party in the house next door. (They had just had there exam results and were celebrating) But this really wasn't the owners fault and it really wasn't a problem. Food in pub excellent. Good transport links into York and we didn't use our car throughout our stay. Also a good children's play area a short walk away. Would definitely go back, many Thanks.
