We booked this site on a whim, after deciding to visit Carsington Water for the day. On our late arrival to the site the owners were still hard at it in their shop (5. 40pm). They were both extremely helpful to us and took time to explain where some walks were for the wife and I with our 2 dogs.
After pitching up, we took the map which they gave us and took our delightful walk to carsinton water, after 4 miles we stopped at the Red Lion at Hognaston (as advised), we ate a well cooked and reasonably priced meal, and the locals including the staff made a fuss of our well behaved dogs which they accommodated inside the pub.
As this was just an over night stay for us we didn't get to much information of the surrounding area but what we saw was beautiful.
There are two toilets / shower blocks, be early to use or you may have a wait if the site is full.
We noticed 2 drinking water points and a CDP.
The bins are near the Toilet blocks with a seperating area to dispose of BBQ waste.
This site overall was delightful, we will return again when in the area.

This was a lovely site and a great location for the attractions in Derbyshire. The owners were very friendly and very helpful. You can walk to Carsington Water from the site and I would also recommend the walk into Hognaston as we had a lovely meal at the Red Lion there. There are only 2 toilets/Shower rooms but this didn't prove to be a problem as I personally never had to wait to use them. The pitches are very generously sized so the site will never feel overcrowded. I would also recommend you try some of the puddings from the shop - you can't possibly stay somewhere called 'The Pudding Room' without sampling the produce!

This was our 3rd stay at The Pudding Room as it is simply brilliant.
This last time we stayed for 3 weeks.
The reception we received from Ang & John has always been really welcoming, So kind, helpful and thoughtful. Rain or shine they are always upbeat. A family run camp site.
The camp site is really good for families. Our children had a brilliant time riding their bikes and playing with the friends They made on site.
The best thing is the peace of mind knowing they are safe, as there are hedgerows all around. You don't have to worry about cars zooming up and down.
There is also a safe access path/cycle route down to Carsington water directly accessible from the site. Either through a style or a 6 bar gate up near the showers.
The camp site is a 5 min walk to Carsington water and there is a 9 mile excellent cycle/hiking track around the perimeter of the reservoir.
There are great views and interesting places on the route and an excellent adventure playground & massive grassed picnic, play, BBQ area at the main visitor centre. Ashbourne show is also worth a visit, it is usually on around mid August, there's loads to see, do, eat & drink there.
On the camp site there are two shower wet rooms and two toilets with nice hot water 24/7!
They are cleaned twice daily and kept really neat and fresh.
There is also an outside tap with drinking water.
Next to the showers is a separate washing up room for your dishes, again clean, fresh and nice hot water.
There is an on site shop selling local produce beautiful puddings (If it is baked it's made by Ang)there's fresh coffee, bacon, Eggs, (try the duck eggs) butter, veg, jam, Sauces, Cakes, Local Steak, Gingerbread, Flapjack, Pies, Tarts, Crumbles, Ice Cream, Soft drinks, all delicious. The children especially love the Gingerbread, Flapjack & Ice Cream.
A truly fantastic time had by us all and we cant wait to return next year.
Thank you again. Hopefully we'll see you summer 2013.
Paradise is pudding shaped.

Stayed here for two nights in mid July. A lovely site with friendly and very helpful owners.
The facilities were clean, tidy and well maintained and the shop sells all sorts of yummy goodies. Well worth the visit!
Others have complained about the main road next to the site; yes, it's noisy but please don't let that put you off as this is a great little site for visiting Carsington Water and the surrounding countryside.

Loved the location of this site just a short walk to Carsington Water. Couldn't fault the owners they were lovely, helpful people who managed to find us a pitch even though the site was busy & it was a last minute booking
The road traffic can be a little noisy & the site is a work in progress as others have said, but please don't let this put you off, the showers & toilets are all working & spotless & there is a lovely on site shop. There is a pub a few yards away serving food etc but on the night we decided to visit it had run out of quite a few drinks so we walked into Hognaston about a mile away & found The Red Lion which is well worth the walk. All in all a lovely stay at a lovely site

Spent 2 nights here
On the plus side we received a very warm, friendly welcome by the owners. The land to pitch the tent was flat with very good toilet and shower facilities. I recommend the nice cup of coffee and slice of cake which are home made.
On the negative side, the site is next to a busy junction and you do get some disturbances during the night.
Things to see. Well worth a visit to Carsington to enjoy either a lovely walk or bike ride. Handy pub or 200 metres away.

What super site. Angie (owner) couldn't be more helpful. We decided not to park on grass as it was very wet.
Site pretty full with tents so queues for toilets & showers were considerable even during the night, didn't bother us except for the noise of people going to & fro on the loose gravel.
Road noise was obtrusive. Spoils a lovely site. Cake etc were very good from on site shop.

We stayed at the Pudding Room for 3 nights and had a pleasant break.
The location is excellent for Carsington- literally just up the road from the visitors centre so it is brilliant for walks.
On the downside to the location- it is quite noisy which to be honest really started to irritate me toward the end of our stay. The roads (the site is on a junction) are very busy and the lorry's for the quarry's are passing at all hours clattering and banging about, its quite disturbing at night and early in the morning. Had I realised this at the time I wouldn't have booked to stay here.
The site is good though, basic but the field is relatively flat and the pitches are very large and not at all restrictive.
The toilets and showers and very clean and the the water in the shower is very powerful and hot- lovely! There are only 2 toilets and 2 showers and they are in together which was fine for us as there was only us and another couple on the site but if it is busy then it would be a nightmare if somebody was in the shower and you needed the loo!
The owner was friendly but not around very much- in fact when we arrived she wasn't there, we had to ring her and she said to just pitch where we wanted and she'd see us tomorrow. Her pudding's are yummy though although we didn't get to sample as many as we liked as she didn't come up to site on our final day so we couldn't buy any.
Overall- a lovely site for a midweek break, very clean and cheap! (£5 per pitch + £2 per person). Shame about the road and wouldn't fancy it on a busy weekend.

Stayed for one night midweek just to get away after phoning on the day to book.
Arrived to be greeted by the very friendly owner who showed me the facilities and told me to pitch wherever I wanted. She offered to tell me about the local attractions but as we only live fairly nearby this wasn't necessary.
We had a really peaceful night and the facilities including indoor washing up room were very good.
I had my two children with me and there was plenty of room for ball games. Dogs were welcomed at no extra charge and nearby Carsington reservoir is lovely for cycling and walking.
All in all a lovely basic site that at £8 a night for one adult and 2 children was good value.
We would happily recommend and use this site again.

We camped at the Pudding Room last weekend and have done nothing but recommend this site to friends and family since. Cheap, clean, and with a very friendly and helpful manager we could not have asked for a nicer site to take my sister-in-law and her children to for their first ever camping trip.
Literally 10 minutes walk from Carsington Water, which provided the children with hours of entertainment in the daytime and in the evening on the playground this is an ideal place to stay for an enjoyable break in Derbyshire. Ashbourne is 15 mins or so down the road, Matlock isn't much further so The Pudding Room is in an excellent location for travelling about the county. There is also a pub just up the road but we didn't go to it.
The site was very well maintained, there were instructions for location of pitches on the shop door when we arrived as the manager was at a Farmer's Market on the Saturday morning, and there were contact numbers for the manager clearly posted on the shop door and in the toilets in case you needed to contact her. The manager was very friendly, offering her assistance and speaking to all the campers before she went off to town or went home for the night.
The toilets were cleaned regularly as were the showers, although both are obviously still under construction they were perfectly fine to use. Personally I would have set up the toilets and showers differently as there are only two of each and are in units together, toilet & shower, so if someone is showering you cannot use the toilet, but if you are a family I suspect that works very well.
We will definitely be using the site again, hopefully this year.
