Stayed for 2 nights at this small campsite after ringing for availability 2 hours before setting off.
Arrived and was greeted by the owner who was very friendly and came out to show us toilets, showers and pot washing areas(all very clean and free) as well as pointing out the available pitches which were around the edges of the field leaving room for ball games etc in the middle
While we were setting up she had a stroll round making sure everyone was ok and happy with pitches etc. She did explain that there were a lot of wasps about but did have a supply of unwashed jam jars to keep them at bay (she runs a bakery as well as camping-cakes are for sale in reception and for those who might find this useful some are gluten free a nice surprise for my coeliac daughter)
There isn't a proper shop on site although the owner will do her best if you have forgotten anything- she sold us some milk and margarine from her own personal supplies.
There is a pub -The Knockerdown Inn-just across the road over a field we didn't eat there but they do accept dogs in the bar side which was another nice surprise when it turned chilly in the evening.
Carsington Water is a short stroll away-go through the squeezer stile at the back of the site turn left and follow the path straight there.
Wirksworth is about a 10 minute drive and the nearest town for serious supplies.
Ashbourne and Dovedale are also a short drive in the opposite direction
We did a lovely circular walk of about 5 miles. After asking the owners advice she not only explained the route but lent us a laminated copy of the map.
To sum up a great little campsite at a great price £5 per tent + £1 per person and if UKCampsite.co.uk ever did awards for the the best owner then the lady here would definitely be in the running.

Great little campsite, had toilets, showers and washing up area. Ideally situated for carsington water and also cycle route 54a which joins the tissington cycle trail to Ashbourne.
Very friendly atmosphere and welcome from the owners.
Plenty of leaflets for things to do locally in the reception area. The road leading to the campsite has its fair share of traffic, especially larger vehicles.

Great value for money. Pleasant owners and very helpful. Toilets and showers clean.Site kept tidy. Lovely walk to Carsington water. Hope to visit again soon.
My daughter came to us later and Angie saved the pitch at the side of us even though site was getting full. Very obliging.T he weekend we were there the knockerdown pub across the road had a fun day which proved to be great for the grandchildren.
All went nice and quiet around 10 oclock.

Campsite nice and clean / tidy, owners helpful and friendly. Only downfall was it was full and there is only 2 toilets which are separate and have a shower in so you had to wait a while.
Road next to the site was sometimes busy but wasn't a a problem. Campsite holds a nice atmosphere. At £5 a night plus £1 a person cant complain at all. Puddings were also very nice!

Friendly owners, great location for walking round Carsington Water. Carsington Water superb day out, large grassed area, communal BBQ, play area, climbing wall, cycle hire or walk round the reservoir. Ensure you take in Carsington Village and Hopton for pubs as part of route.
Knockerdown inn next door with beer garden and small children's play area.
Good basic/ level site with wc and shower.

Arrived for Whitsun week.
Owner was very friendly and welcoming, Showed us to our pitch and made sure we were settled.
Site was small but clean and tidy. Showers were unfinished but clean.
This site is in a great location, with a short walk to the beautiful Carsington Water and the cycle / walking trails. Good site for Alton towers which took us about 25 mins, although we had to go through Ashbourne which seems to be a bit of a traffic blackspot.
The puddings were delicious, especially the Bakewell tart and shortbread, and not expensive.
No facilities for children, but we were out most of the time anyway.
Not impressed with the pub across the road (Knockerdown). Ale was OK but food mediocre. Nice play area though. As no play area in site, cross the road and sit out with a pint while the kids play.
We would definitely stay again.

Ideally situated for exploring the Derbyshire dales.
The site is small and informal and the owners were pleasant, the showers and toilets were clean.
They sell cakes in reception which were gorgeous.
The knockerdown pub was just across the field, they served breakfast, lunch and dinner food fantastic, they sell real ales and good wine and the owners were very friendly.
Would recommend the campsite and the pub both were great - we will be back !

It is ideally situated on the Cycle Track just a few minutes walk away (down a steep hill) from Carsington Water and Visitor Centre. The Centre has some gift shops, tourist information, cycle hire, a great play park and some short walks along a peninsula with trails and sculptures. It is from here you can also start an 8 mile ride / walk around the reservoir, which is very pretty although quite up and downy! (It's a while since I last cycled and I can still 'feel the burn').
The site is very relaxed and informal and they try to keep rules to a minimum, the owners are very friendly and are more than happy to give information. We pitched next to our brother and his family in their caravan around the edge of a small field which was great for children and their ball / diablo / frisbee etc games. Our group consisted of 4 adults, 6 children and a dog and no charges for day visitors (which was great for our parents on Sunday and brother on Monday!)
There are 2 showers with toilets which, although not finished, are spacious and very clean. There is a small pot washing room and plenty of hot water. This was a busy weekend, and although at times there was a small queue for toilets / pot washing it was not horrendous. In fact the site had such a nice atmosphere that I don't think anybody really minded having a natter whilst queuing!
We went to the Knockerdown Pub for a drink when we arrived, as it was too wet and rainy to pitch our tent, that was our excuse anyway. A big sign on the door states that children are not allowed inside the premises unless dining but my very wet and bedraggled looking sister in law asked and they said it would be OK as they weren't busy. I don't think they expected six kids though. The Rose wine was very nice, in fact too nice, and we left a couple of hours later in high spirits.
Pitching the tent has never been such fun! The meals were on the expensive side and my brothers family, who ate there, said they were 'OK'. But it does have a nice play area for little ones and good views over to the reservoir.
The site costs £5.00 per pitch and £1.00 per person. There is no electric hook up.
I nearly forgot the cakes! In reception they sell a selection of cakes, puddings and gateaux, all home made. We had Zingy Lime pie for breakfast this morning (such a shame we ran out of bread and cereals!) it was delicious!
A great little site and very reasonably priced. We will return.

A lovely little site. Very clean and tidy.
It was very quiet the weekend we went, not many tents about.
The owner were very helpful and friendly. There was a Duke of Edinburgh group on the second night. But the owners made sure we were away from the group, but they weren't noisy at all.
The showers were clean and tidy. We had a lovely weekend there.
I don't recommend the Knockerdown pub which is next to the site, the food was over expensive and poor for the price. There is another pub opposite on the main road which serves food.

We stayed here last weekend for our first camping trip.
The site is easy to find, with a pub in walking distance and out of the field on to a gravel track and you are at carsington water, which is a nice reservoir with a visitors centre and plenty to do.
The campsite itself has only just opened, so although it is work in progress, the place is lovely.
The toilet and shower were first class, all brand new and clean as a whistle whenever I used them, and the field we pitched in was good - not too big and very user friendly.
We went up the road to wirksworth, which is a nice little place with a few shops etc.
There is lots of outdoor activities around this area, found a couple of rides that we are going to do when we can.
The owners were fantastic, got back to me straight away when I enquired re booking, and put up with me and my endless emails (thanks ang ! )
All in all, a nice site that only cost £5 a night and definitely worth a return trip.
