Just got back from a lovely 2 night stay. Lovely setting, we stayed in the paddock which people have commented about noise from the chickens but it really wasn't a problem. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The toilets were interesting!but didn't smell and we soon got used to them. Looking forward to going back next year.

We stayed at Turkey Creek last weekend for a 40th birthday party and would highly recommend a visit. There were 25 of us and we all loved the site. Toilets are clean and eco-friendly, the surrounding area is beautiful and Bampton has everything you need - even 15 bags of ice from the local shop to keep the beer cold for the whole party!
The owners are really welcoming and friendly, as are their gorgeous dogs.
We are already thinking about our next booking - we didn't take the kids this time but we definitely will do next time. We are always looking for sites that welcome groups of friends and allow camp fires and Turkey Creek is the best we have found in recent years.

I spent one night here in a large ridge tent amongst the trees, no set pitch, I was advised by another group to choose a space that suited. I found a nice site under the trees, which was very quiet most of the time, apart from a large family enjoying themselves in the early evening, but not a problem! Not over keen about leaving the car at the entrance to the field but that is the policy. The owners were very laid back and I had to search for them to pay for my pitch fees when I left on Sunday evening.
Their dogs are very friendly and do not pose a problem when wondering around the site, most pitches have a firepit close by, wood is available from the owners, when you see them wondering around.
The toilets were of the compost type and didn't smell at all, didn't use the shower but it looks clean. Hot water is available for dish washing adjacent to the shower.
Access to the site is by way of a very rough track, full of potholes which fill up with water after it rains, not very well signed, but easy to find if you follow the instructions on their website.
Nothing much in the local area that I could see but there are some shops in Bampton village, plus a good selection of big supermarkets and eateries in nearby Carterton. Just go past RAF Brize Norton, (ideal if you like Military Aircraft spotting) and you will find the town centre. Approx 20 minute drive from the site.
Ideal site if you want to get back to basics camping without any leisure facilities on site, I will definitely be back!

This is a mixed review. Getting in touch with the couple that run this is a nightmare. You can leave messages but it took over a week to hear back from them. On arrival They were very nice and made us very welcome. The lady was a bit jumpy about our dog and her grass but otherwise all fine. We did camp near the hen coup and it was very smelly which was not pleasant for dinner time. My last gripe if is the payment system the lady came round once to collect (cash/cheques) while we were eating and then was put out when we requested to find her later. She wanted to charge us £20 more than we owed, we had booked an extra night but left messages with 5 days notice to cancel. The website has no prices so it was all very vague. It could be great but needs organising !

A generally pleasant but unusual campsite, very relaxed. Nice shaded camping, facilities ok (I don't mind compost toilets, didn't use shower). Found the washing up sink and water pipe right next to the men's toilet area a bit off.
Lovely to have fires and because such a nice wooded site we felt like we weren't on top of anyone. This site does seem to attract big parties, there were three massive groups whilst we were there but other than one party setting off a firework at midnight (yep, seriously) it was very chilled.
The nearest pub was a 10 minute drive away.
Whitney is a lovely town to visit.
No fridge or freezer available to use.

Just returned from a weekend camping at Turkey Creek but had a pretty tiring time. On arrival at the campsite we were told by the woman that she was in the middle of dinner and we should just pitch up. We went to the left of the field and started to pitch but were told by another camper that all their friends were going to come and they were reserving the area. We therefore moved our tents to the grass near the chicken coop. This turned out to be a very noisy location for camping, there is a constant click of an electric fence and the cockerels crow from about 4am until 9am about 5 metres from your head. In the morning we decided to move our tents to the other side of the campsite to get away from the chickens and to try to get a good night's sleep. Before we'd even sat down after pitching our tents in the 3rd location we were told we'd been complained about by somebody in a yurt and that we weren't allowed to pitch in the yurt or log cabin area (despite there being another tent nearby). We'd also collected some wood from the trees because they had run out of bags for sale, which apparently wasn't allowed (despite everyone else with armfuls of wood from the trees). We were also going to use their V-shaped BBQ which wasn't allowed, but using their BBQ grills on the firepits WAS allowed. It was rapidly becoming clear that this 'campsite with no rules' actually had a lot of rules, they just never tell you what they are. I don't mind rules, but you have to tell people what they are if you want them to follow them! We therefore broke camp for the 3rd time and moved to an area behind the trees near the initial group of campers had told us it was reserved. It turned out their friends weren't coming after all. Thanks. We then spent a slightly better second night, slightly further from the chickens and far enough away from the yurts. Felt very much shunned and pushed around by everyone. The campsite owner's husband (Charles) then showed up who is a lovely man, and he brought us a dozen free eggs by way of apology for being kicked around the campsite. This went a good way into ensuring we did have a pleasant second night, despite being kept up until 3am by a group of nearby campers having fun.
So now I write this, having had two nights of no sleep and unsure exactly of how to review this site. Most important thing to warn about is that it is a poultry farm, so the noise is really disruptive. Half the campsite is right next to the chickens, the other half is through some trees and so in my mind is the only usable half. Upon arrival it would really have been a good idea to a) show us where we can and can't pitch (there are no signs), b) show us which BBQs we can and can't use c) tell us any more rules that you would like us to abide by. It would avoid all the confusion. I would also get the large skip emptied more often, as it was bursting and smelt awful. Some good points to end on: Plenty of firepits to have have fires, toilets and wash-up area are ok, areas to pitch in are secluded, Charles is nice.

Just back from a wonderful weekend at Turkey Creek. Our pitch was in the wooded area, quite near the loos but thanks to thoughtful campers (and no flushing - more on that later) were not bothered by that at all.
The ground was easy to pitch in, and sitting round a log fire under the trees was a real treat.
The site is well kept but relaxed and the owners very friendly - fresh eggs and meats are available, as well as logs and fire pits for fires.
The loos were a bit daunting to me at first - open pits with a loo seat fixed into a wooden board and a bucket with sawdust in to thrown down instead of flushing, but we just got on with it and it was fine - a fantastic idea. The shower got a bit grubby after so much use (only one on the site) but the water was piping hot and no one hung about too much so queue times were minimal.
Overall a lovely site - would definitely return.

I rang on Wednesday evening, not expecting them to be able to accommodate my party of 9 families with 2 days notice.
Not a problem! They had a paddock we could use once they mow the grass, as long as we didn't mind camping near to the Guinea Fowl.
The birds were noisy, so we used ear plugs but come the second night we didn't really notice them. The children loved the ponies, goats and pig as well as the Fowl- and the fact that we were safely enclosed in a paddock was great for us parents!
The wildlife is amazing, we saw bats, frogs, caterpillars, grasshoppers, dragonflies. Not to mention the kept animals! We were even encouraged to go into the enclosure and make friends with the goats; a rare treat during such Health and safety conscious times!
The toilets were lovely, clean and full of character! I loved how they nestled into the woods. We will definitely go back and try and camp in the woods- it was so enchanting.
The owners were not there, but the staff were great. They couldn't do enough to help, and came to check we were ok and to ask how we slept in the mornings. When they saw we were packing up they even brought the trailer over so we didn't have to carry our rubbish over to the bin!
The pub- the trout at Tadpole Bridge- was nice, a 10 minute walk and was on the river bank which was lovely. Not cheap, but pretty.
My 1 issue was that there was no hand washing station, so if you forgot to take your soap to the loo you had to use just water. This was annoying as we had to walk a bit of a way to get there and I was keen to make sure the children washed their hands after petting the animals.
We will definitely go again. Lovely!

When you mention camping to me I think of a tree lined green field, space between you and the next camper, open camp fires and the freedom to enjoy yourself. Turkey Creek delivers this.
We arrived at 10pm, usually too late to book into a formal camp site but for Charles (the owner) it wasn't a problem and although he was halfway through his dinner he gladly showed us around, recommended the best place to pitch and brought us logs so we could enjoy a late night camp fire.
The camp site is located in an orchard with 2 long strips of grass cleared of trees. It was almost empty which was great for us turning up so late but even so I reckon you'd still have a decent choice of pitches. Some are open, some slightly sheltered by trees and others completely in the woods.
The A frame wooden toilet blocks are composting (and clean) as advertised but this adds to the rustic feel of the place. The shower was big enough for two and had plenty of hot water.
Each night either Charles or Gavin (son) would come round on their tractor and make sure you had enough wood for the evening.
All in all this is probably the friendliest camp site we've ever stayed at suitable for couples, groups and families except the type that want a bar, kids club, supermarket, spa and swimming pool at their disposal. This is real camping at its most comfortable.

We only stayed here for two nights so didn't get to explore the area to much. We arrived early and called the owner to find out where we could pitch our tent which he gave us very good instructions.
I was pleased to see that the camping areas was very well drained and pretty dry considering it had been raining day and night!
Before we left we had taken a range of different instructions as I had heard it was a difficult place to find and was pleased that I had! It is a very small turning down a dirt bumpy road which if I hadn't of known I could've and almost missed! I did think it was at the side or very close to 'the Morris Clown pub' but it is actually about 0.5 miles further down the road. There is a little shop close ( co-op I think) to the pub with everything you would need.
Anyway back to the campsite! It was a well kept camp with a toilet and shower block there are about 5 eco toilets and 2 'p' toilets they was also supplied with toilet tissue. The only showers also had some soap etc and there was a tap to wash your hands with.
I also saw someone washing their pots and pans in the shower as there is no hot water apart from there. Making fires are encouraged as each camping area has a cut down metal barrel for you to use, which I really liked.
A home made tyre swing had been made into a shape of a horse which my daughter absolutely loved! There wasn't many animals but I believe it was because the weather was so bad! The owners dog walked round the site constantly and was no bother at all and very friendly.
There was no real playground from what I could see and we found some things wasn't very well sign posted but all was easy enough to find if you had a little walk!
We didn't see the owner but when we tried to contact him he was very helpful and even left a bag of logs near our tent when we had gone out! We paid when we left as we still hadn't seen the owner but this did not affect our stay.
I really liked this site and would definitely go back again and would recommend this place to friends.
