Stayed for 4 nights. Beautiful location, grass, no hardstandings that we could see.
Only one water and waste disposal point. Be warned, there is NO chemical disposal point. Campsite was empty and this was a surprise given we were there over Easter.
Pitches are generous. Toilets and showers are warm and clean.
There is a small shop 10 min walk away. Nice walks from the site. Dog friendly.
If you are the type who likes to sit out of an evening and watch the sun go down you might be a little disappointed if you are doing it sitting down. There is a wall all the way round about waist height, maybe a bit higher. You can see the sea and views whilst standing or sitting in van but sitting down outside you see the wall. Not a huge issue, but might be disappointing to some.
Think we paid £99 for 4 nights. I’m not sure this was good value given only one water point, no chemical toilet. I’ve been to better sites for less.
There are no paper towels or hand driers in the toilets, so if you just pop in for the loo remember you’ll need to drip dry or take your towel every time you need a pee.
Communal bars of soap at each sink, soap dispensers were empty. This isn’t something we like, but I dare say ok for others.

Stayed here for 3 nights and can't recommend this site enough. The toilet and washing facilities are second to none and access to an indoor kitchen for washing up with free use of a kettle and microwave is a real bonus if you are in a small tent.
The wardens we met were both very helpful and friendly and the site is a credit to their hard work and dedication. The nearby Palace stores is a good local village store and 10 minutes down the road at Dounby the Co-op covers most other things along with a very nice butchers and probably the cheapest fuel on the islands.
The site looks out over the Brough of Birsay and most of the other historical sites are within easy driving distance and some great coastal scenery at Yesnaby and around the Kitchener memorial.
Great site look forward to coming back.

We arrived very late off the ferry at Kirkwall -23. 00-but we still managed to find this site as it's right beside the community centre. We choose to picth our tent up at the back beside the wall as it was very very windy.
A flat site easy to pitch the tent and a water tap nearby We stayed here for 5 nights and found the facilities clean and well maintained. The friendly warden is available every day. No charge for showers or washing machine or tumble dryer ! ( that's a first).
The campers kitchen is a small area however there is a large room behind this with table chairs etc to eat in and relax. You will also find lots of information of what to see and do, Adjoining hostel rooms are beside this. Brough of Birsey is worth a visit just make sure you know the Tide times,
Nearby village has a Co op & There is a great Craft Trail around Orkney and we visited all around the mainland seeing many amazing history sites, too many to mention, but so worth it.
We were on honeymoon and would recommend this site, the only downside was the constant wind, but a good base to travel from and lovely sunsets at night

Fantastic campsite. Peace and quiet the birds, the sea and the wind. Facilities 10 out of 10
Very friendly and accommodating
Will visit again sometime. Lots of things to do if you liked nature and the out doors.
Beautifully kept grounds. No hassle on leaving day just go when you are ready
Only one negative point ( my husbands nag) only one washing up sink so a bit of a queue sometime. Personally I don't care my husband washes up not me

Lovely peaceful wee site. Toilets and showers are spotless. There is a campers kitchen with the use of a microwave. Opposite there is a drying room where you can dry your wet clothes. Campers can use the washing machine and tumble dryer for free.
The toilets are nice and toasty, nice when you come out the shower.
Nice walk to Birsay bay and town.
Beautiful views from the site, some stunning sunsets while we were there.

Another ten days spent at Birsay. Weather not so kind this time in common with the rest of the country, but the excellent facilities meant you could get everything dry overnight.
Lorraine and Sue the wardens work very hard to maintain the standards here and deserve credit for their hard work.
Excellent value and a location with sunsets that are unbelievable when the weather allows. Recommended.

Stayed 2 nights. Good flat grass site, with roadways. Some shelter from walls for tents to protect from the wind.
Great showers and toilets, free washer and drier seemed to be in constant use, but also washing line etc.
Kitchen and common room areas. Friendly wardens each morning and evening. Good walking from site.

Best site on Orkney
Level site, warm shower/toilet block, good views. About £14. 50 a night for 2 and the van hook ups available.
Great walks and the RSPB reserve near by. Shop in the village stocks a good range of essentials.
Site a little exposed although an area with hedging around it gives protection for tents against the constant wind

This site is situated at the top of the mainland Orkneys,
the facilities are superb and include free washing machine and tumble dryer, which after 4 weeks travelling around the UK coastline this was the first time we had come across this for FREE.
We only stayed the one n
ight but met the warden who clearly takes a pride in what she does. Less than 15 minutes DOWN road/hill and you are on the beach.
Well done to the Wardens who do a fantastic job on this site
