I can only repeat what others have said about this Site - It's marvellous. Although the toilet blocks look like Portacabins, inside they are immaculate with hot, free, showers and plenty of washing facilities.
The free washing machine and tumble dryer is a bonus too(even if they are located in the Ladies). The location just beside the former activity centre means that there are good dishwashing and food preparation areas as well as a common room with TV.
The site is about 10 minutes walk from Birsay itself with its Broch and Earl's Palace and small shop. Marwick Head Bird Reserve is only 15 or so minutes away along the coastal path. We saw Puffins, Gulls and Skuas at the Birsay Island.
Wardens visit in the evening to collect site fees - currently £14. 20 for a motorhome with hook up.
A real gem in a lovely part of Orkney.

What a pleasure this site is. Clean tidy and well looked after by the wardens. I was a previous long term user of Pickauoy but no longer. This site matches it and surpasses it in every way.
The views are beautiful and it is sheer peace. Facilities are excellent and the wardens are helpful and very friendly.
It can get a bit windy at times but this is Orkney, that said we had our canopy out 24 hrs a day for ten days with no problems.
Highly recommended.

What a wonderful place to stay So relaxing I can almost feel the tension dropping away just thinking about the place.
The views are absolutely stunning and one can watch the foaming breakers crashing in on the shore below the site for hours. I am slightly disabled so could not get about, but for those who could it would be absolute heaven
The people who care for the place are OUTSTANDING nothing seemed too much trouble, the place was immaculately kept and had everything I could have wanted. Even a superb drying room.
Although I didn't notice any specific facilities for children there were lots of areas for them to play safely and it is not far from the beach plus it is next to the community hall, which looked as though there was going to be work outside so maybe now there are things for them there as well.

A lovely little site with good facilities, kept clean and tidy, and a helpful warden, all for very reasonable price
The site had actually closed for the season but when we enquired they re-opened the site for us
We took some nice walks from the site down to the coast where we encountered numerous seals lounging about on the rocks, and also visited the local Brough of Birsay which is quite spectacular
Only negative is that there is no CDP

A fabulous site in an open situation with spectacular sea views. The site was very clean, well maintained with first class toilet/shower facilities. Small site but four shower cubicles for each sex hot water all inclusive. A drying room, small kitchen and lounge was also available. Warden was extremely helpful and friendly. Village of Birsay only 1 mile away with small shop/post office. Excellent hotel/restaurant less than one mile. No children's facilities but all the rest for £13 a night.

This site is wonderful for just enjoying the peace and beauty of Orkney. It was delightful to watch the sunset over the tidal island of Birsay at 11pm.
The price was very reasonable and included everything. As well as the toilet / shower block, you can use the washing up facilities and disabled shower in the hostel. The warden is available in the evening.
There is a village shop about a mile away which will order newspapers, but you need to be reasonably self-sufficient.

Flat, grassy, enclosed site behind hostel with electric hook ups and hard standings. Good, clean toilet block with wcs, free showers and free washing machine. Well worth the visit if you have built up your laundry needs.
Just off road but quiet with far views.
Payment not to hostel but at house just up the road.
Friendly, not crowded and adjacent camper offered us his surplus trout catch - fantastic.

Really nice campsite, with an extremely helpful a Warden and the Assistant. The grass pitch is easy on the pegs, the location is good for a base to tour the Island. We were there during the high season and had excellent weather, with exception for the odd windy night and was it windy bit exposed. The site was very quiet kept very clean and tidy. Plenty to see do around the island we actually stayed 4 days longer as we liked the Island so much and found it most friendly and very relaxing. For bird watches, easy walking and those who like Neolithic sites it is ideal.
