A friend and I used this site last month while backpacking, we chose the site as we had used it before and knew we could rely on a fire for cooking.

We arrived at around 6pm, greeted by the owner who proceeded to empty my wallet!

2x 1 man tent £13. 50 each.

Fire pit and 2 bags of wood £15.

£42 spent!

The facilities are very basic with only cold water though there were 2 toilets in the mens but they were in a very poor state, not very clean at all given the prices.

The bins were in urgent need of emptying, a couple said they had seen rats the night before when using the bin.

The grass was overgrown, so long it just never dried out causing problems with midges.

I had my £2 worth of shower and it lasted 2-3 mins, I questioned the owner who said he had reduced the length of time the credit lasts rather than increasing the price.

Total spent in shower £6

we were charged £5 to use metered electricity to charge our phones but only used 67p worth of the credit.

It was cold once the sun went down so we had to buy another £10 worth of logs.

Add to this the boy racers screeching up and down the road along the site in the early hour of the morning, toilets and showers without lighting, full of cobwebs and spiders.

Dogs allowed to roam loose and mess wherever they want in the long grass.

Certainly not very good value for money
Management response: Just to correct some misinformation which has been submitted in the July Review:-

1) The toilets have hot running water.

2) The grass is kept short, we have no control over dew and rain

3) The showers are £1 and this lasts for 2 minutes.

4) We do not allow electric usage with tents, so would certainly not have supplied an electric card to charge a phone.

5) The bin is enclosed, so rodents are not a problem.

6) We have no control over road users.

Poor reviews without any basis are unacceptable.

Regards

Ian & Sarah

A great one night stop on my ride from Bradford to Bridlington then a week later on my return journey from Bridlington to Bradford. (two nights in all). A welcoming host. Basic facilities - Toilet block with showers and water tap on the camping field. The only hassle for me was there are no shops around, so I had to hop back onto the bike and nip into Selby for a few supplies. I'll popping back to the site again and this time make it my base for a few days so that I can ride to York and Goole and explore the area.

First impressions were good – we rang and were told plenty of space and £12. 50 a night. Arrived a few hours later and were warmly greeted by the owner, we were then told that we also need to pay for an electric card - £5 for 2 nights, we enquired as to a refund if we didn't use the card in full but were told no and we should just use more electric.

The camping field is large with plenty of space. Grass was long and didn't appear to have been cut for some time. Electric hookups at the side and also in a cluster round some trees in the middle. We went to insert our electric card and noticed the meter was already £3. 95 in the red – so our card would have gone to £1. 05 immediately, there was another meter which we used but just a note to check the credit / debit on the meters. We used a total of 85p in electric in 3 days /2 nights, for us then not a good deal at £2. 50 per night and no refunds on electric cards.

Toilet / showers are in two metal container type buildings which looked ok, The showers were £1 but we didn't use so cant comment. The bins in the blocks were not emptied in the 3 days we stayed, there was no soap or toilet paper in loos.

For those who like a more rural feel in terms of lots of space and less manicured campsite it will appeal, it is really handy for York and Selby but nothing in the immediate area in terms of walks etc. As the lanes were quite busy with traffic. This one wasn't for us so we wouldn't use again.

I stayed with my two dogs in a caravan, the owners are very friendly, good communication before I arrived, site is in a lovely location in a field. Toilets are clean, however tent campers be aware! You will need to bring your hand soap and toilet paper! It is not provided. Also it says dish washing facilities but it does not have a hot water tap either in the toilets or the in the dish washing area, you can have a shower at £2 a session. I used my caravan so cannot comment on that! I hope to use the site next year as its very friendly and convenient for my needs!

We only intended to stay for 1 or 2 nights but, we loved it so much we stayed for 5! Camp site is run by lovely friendly people and, is set in a rural, quiet location. Has everything we need; toilets, showers and pot washing. Ideal location for visiting moors, dales, Leeds and York. Selby is only 10 mins drive away with ample supermarkets and beautiful canal walks. Although we have a large family ourselves, we do sometimes like to get away for a quiet break, so we purposely choose sites where there is no club house or play area. We will certainly be back and would recommend this site.

Just spent a night at Moss Hagg.

It was very basic. A couple of 'long grass' islands in the middle of a field, one of which held a tap and some EHU's. Another tap could be found in the corner of the field.

As described, the site was edged with hedges and trees. One side was next to the road which we travelled in on, which was quite noisy and not far enough away for my liking - especially with the kids looking for dens in the hedges.

The kids did actually enjoy playing in these various 'dens' around the edges of the site, which was a good thing since there was nothing else for them. A rope swing or a couple of chicken running around would have been good and given us something to look at.

The firepits at £5 to hire, plus £5 for wood (which was by the site's own admission 'green' and difficult to burn - and you're not allowed to bring your own wood, so essentially its £10 to hire), and came with a hefty £20 deposit. In the morning, the firepit had to be emptied (into the ash bin at the top of the field) and put back into its round bag with all the attachments and bits and bobs, then returned to the office, to pick up your refund. A bit of a mission when you have a couple of tents to pack away. I think that forking out £30 initially for the firepit is expensive, however, a campfire is nice and does lend itself to having a good camping experience.

The toilets were the portacabin style and were very clean. As previously mentioned, there was no toilet paper. Not even a toilet paper holder. Sadly, the toilet doors were left open all night, and the lights left on, so a trip to the bathroom in the morning meant walking into a lot of moths and long-legged flying things. Not nice for anyone. Couldn't the doors be kept closed? We opted not to have the £2 shower. Getting tokens was another faff I didn't want to go through, not to mention it would have cost £10 for our family to have a shower! (Scandalous!) The men's loo had a 'beaded curtain' at the doorway. Seems like a good idea to do this for the ladies too as maybe it would discourage the LOT of moths that were in there.

The location was ideal for a one night stop, but didn't feel close enough to anything entertaining to make it worth stopping for longer than one night. There were a lot of kids there, so they made their own fun, but as an adult, I found the site itself was a teeny bit lacking in personality or charm.

The site details say the site has 'easy to access to woodland'. But when I asked where would be best to walk the dogs I was advised that the best (woodland) walks were accessible by car, so I'm not sure where the easy access woodland was, which is a great shame. I wish I'd known because this would have been something good to do.

On a plus note, the owner/lady/person in charge really tried hard to be friendly and accommodating.

The site was ok. Bathrooms clean and campfires allowed, so for this, it gets my thumbs up.

For the nearby road with its fast drivers, and the lack of something to do but hang around the pitch (no chickens, geese, playground, stream, nothing to say, 'Hey, lets go to the xxxxxxxx'. Just nothing but grass and hedges), I wouldn't put this place on the top of my 'to visit again' list.

Thinking about it, £12. 50 for a basic pitch, plus £10 for a fire, plus £10 for the family to get showered makes for a dear do for a basic night of camping! For this kind of money, you can go to a leisure park site and have access to clubs, swimming pools, activities, shops and beaches!

Having said that, some picnic tables, maybe a couple of wooden gazebos dotted about (oooh, with fairy lights perhaps??), a signpost to the easy access woodland, some 'points of interest'. Like an old tractor to play on. Or a wooden bridge across one of the 'grass islands'. These things would make it far more appealing for me and would make it more cost-worthy.

What a great little campsite! We arrived late on the Friday night and stayed until Monday

Owners :- were very friendly and helpful they also have an amazing garage if you get the chance to see it.

Facilities :- Toilets and Showers are functional and clean.

Activities and location :- about 15mins from York city centre and Selby around the corner.

Conclusion :- A fabulous little camp site quiet and functional with friendly owners, I will be staying again.

Used this site as a stopover for one night whilst travelling home from a trip to Scotland. All I can say really is that its suitable for a one night stop or if a group of friends wanted to have a weekend away and let your hair down without annoying other campers.

The toilets/showers are still of a very basic standard although have apparently been updated and the cost of £2 for a shower is very expensive. I had previously emailed the owner and asked about availability and cost and was told £12 and to just park wherever we liked. On arrival there wasn't a sole there so we did as we had been advised. At around 8pm the owners wife arrived and asked for payment which she said was £15 when we queried this she claimed the prices had gone up. For the time of year we were quite surprised to find not another camper came near but, this may be due to the facilities and the price.
If you are after peace and quiet this is an ideal stopover.

Not a bad site only let down by the charge of £2 for a shower that did not allow me time to wash my hair!

Electric hook ups are located around a small area of trees which was a little too cramped for my liking with 2 motor homes, 1 caravan and 6 tents all vying for a good spot. (Why are today's tents so large?) Plenty of space for non electric hook ups though.

The toilet blocks are housed in containers but are fully lined and fairly clean. Take your own toilet roll though!

Our daughter and Son in law stayed here the first night they reopened.

Lovely quiet area with really nice, welcoming people running it.

The new showers and toilets are now up and running, and the fire pits available.

Only about 3 miles to Selby and nice walks by the canal and around the Abbey.

The site is in a field, close to the farm house.

I am not sure how many hook ups there are, but the ground was good and flat and there was space for children to play. Though the season was not really started when they visited, so unable to say what space there will be if busy.

The fire pits can be hired and the wood is bought through the site only.

I have rated it as child friendly, as this is how I feel it will be, though there were no children there at the time of our visit.
