Stayed here for a week with my partner, it was a kid free week and I found this site on the strength of it being next to a river but also the excellent reviews.
First off, the river is ok ish! for canoeing, bit of a fast flow when I was there.
For peace and tranquillity it cant be beaten and Paul is a great guy, if all wardens were like him there would be too many caravanners! it would be so good.
He loves to stand and chat and is very accommodating, he is new to site management and this is mainly the reason for that, he allows use of his barn for sheltered get togethers and BBQ's etc, the toilet blocks are no portable cabin they are proper facilities.
There is loads to visit in the area including the waterfalls at oswestry etc, or you can just sit and look at the view and watch the river go by and have a wander round the very interesting church later.

Visiting the small campsite for the first time in June this year was a very pleasant experience indeed. It maybe small but this site is an ideal place to get away from it all.
The owners are fantasic, friendly and very very helpful.
The shower and toilet block are very clean and there is always hot water available, the site has an area to washup and a fridge freezer where you can re freeze your ice blocks.
The surrounding area is ideal for walkers, cyclist and if you love the water then take your canoe or dingy because you can enter the river straight off the camp site, great area for walking your dogs too!
I would recommend this site if your looking to escape the maddening crowd.

This was out last camping trip with our old tent before we got a caravan!
Went for the royal wedding as a family group of 2 tents and a caravan.
A lovely site with a beautiful old church next door that you can walk around. If I remember rightly it is a wattle and daub church?!
Anyway, a real feeling of history!
The site is right next to the river with good views to fields and hills. There are lots of safe dog walks including a footpath that runs through the site directly onto fields.
We did a 7 mile walk to the stone monument you will see if you go. It looks like a needle but I've forgotten the name!
There is a pub just down the road, which was fully booked every night we were there so we never got chance to sample the food!
It is a peaceful site with clean facilities and I would definitely go back.

Beautiful, peaceful site. We visited for a few nights with our two border collies. Paul is very welcoming and helpful.
The pitches were level and spacious with everything you need close by.
There isn't a shop within walking distance, so like others have said stock up before you arrive.
There is good dog walking directly from the site in either direction and if you fancy something a bit more testing you can visit Rodney's pillar just a few miles away.
I can't recommend this site enough for a lovely peaceful getaway.

We stayed at Church House for a week in August.
The previous reviewer said it all really. It is a Gem of a site and it is really very special.
We arrived on the campsite and Paul the owner very quickly came to us and he showed us around his lovely campsite. We quickly knew where everything was and we relaxed and our Fabulous holiday began. It was such a lovely touch and something you don't sometimes get from bigger camp sites. We were hooked lol.
We have no negatives from our weeks stay here as everything was as previous reviewers have said and it was Perfect for us. Only negative for us is that we were on a 3 week tour and Church house was our second campsite, the 3rd campsite had a lot to live up to and it sadly could not.
Its a place in the country that paul loves to share with you.
We are looking forward to when we are staying here again in October.

This is a gem of a campsite - small, quiet, green and beautiful.
Free showers, well maintained facilities including washing up room, fridge and bookshelf, plus a friendly and helpful owner make it a real favourite of ours - we've now stayed several times and will no doubt return.
I particularly like the fact that each of the ladies loos has its own sink in the cubicle. The riverside location, and the beautiful church adjacent to the site, along with distant views of hills and fields make for a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere.
A very special place.

Just back from a lovely relaxing weekend at this site.
Small, quiet site set next to a river with a lovely pub (very nice food) just a very short walk away. However - no shop in immediate location, so stock up before you go.
Toilet Block has 2 toilets, 2 washbasins and 1 shower each for men and women - only downside being the bright yellow cubicles! Good showers and facilities clean and tidy.
Owners very friendly.
The perfect place to go to relax or go walking. Would visit again.

This is a really lovely little site, our only gripe is that we wished we had more time to spend there!
The owners are friendly and found us a level quiet pitch which we were able to park our car on also. The pitch was a good size and the grass was short and well maintained. The shower block was lovely and clean with 2 toilets and a free hot shower, we didn't have to queue for either as the site is small.
This is one of the few sites I have been to that offered a full recycling facility so we found this a real bonus as we hate throwing things out which we know could be recycled again. The local pub is a stones throw away and like this site was modern clean and welcoming, very very good value food I think egg & chips were £2. 95! so definitely worth a visit.
No negatives at all, would highly recommend this as a great peaceful site with helpful and knowledgeable owners.

Delightful small quiet understated site in rural riverside location. Grass pitches with EHU. Location provides direct access to river with kayaking and fishing.
Lots of country walks and bike rides also directly from location. Country pub with food one minutes’ walk from site (evening meals only during the week).
The site owners are very friendly and helpful, even providing plumbs from fruit trees during our visit. No shops within immediate location, so with motorhome need to stock up with provisions if self-catering.
Also water on site is very hard and would recommend fetching bottled water for drinks/kettle.
Would highly recommend this site if you are looking for some country site peace and quiet, country walks/cycling or river kayaking.
Will be back to this site – with more provisions and bottled water!

Just got back from Church House and what a great site. Paul is very friendly and helpful even helped me pull the van into place and would stop to chat to everyone.
Facilities were clean and showers hot and free. Great place for walking (we even managed to walk up to Rodneys Pillar and needed a drink at the pub at the bottom which was small and friendly.
We went several times to the pub next to the site and although we didn't eat there( we were 15 minutes too late on sunday) the food looked really good.
The local people there were very friendly and every time me or the missus had 2 beers in hand to go outside they jumped up and opened the door for us. The church is lovely and Paul is the Key holder and can give some information about it.
All in all for peace and quiet this is a great site and would visit again.
