Come here as often as we can, every other weekend sometimes (when I have my daughter).
We wouldn't go anywhere else now, why should we go somewhere else when we already go to the BEST.
Excellent for kids and adults, good chillout time and the NO MESSING wardens/owners (karen and hubby) will have no back chat off young or old, or your kicked off site and rightly so! That makes it a nice site for every one then, with no louts (and yes these too can be over 55yrs, with no kids with them,)
Well done, very very good site.
Pros- everything about the site
Cons- none
Price- great but keep it that way,

This was our first visit to Fisherground after reading good reviews on the site.
We found the journey upto the site off the M6 extremely long (approx 1 hour from M6) and quite difficult in places as we were towing a trailer also, so not much room to turn around if needed as the lanes are very narrow. At some times you feel completely lost as there are very few signposts around and those that are generally weren't on our atlas map.
When you do eventually find the campsite, you literally feel that you are in the middle of nowhere. Although this is quite an advantage as the peace and quite and scenery are all worth the long laborious journey, you do have to travel a fair way to attractions in the vicinity, which all seem to take twice as long along the small lanes.
There is a small Post Office not too far away which is stocked quite adequately with all the essentials but can be quite expensive as you would expect and there is also a pub within walking distance which is comfortable with good food and ale, and a few more a short drive away left of the campsite.
The campsite itself provides great activities for the kids, whether it be rock climbing on the small rock mounds in the field, the activity park or the small paddling lake with tyre rafts, the kids always seem entertained. Great walks for all the family, most not too strenuous if you have small children with you and although expensive the railway is worth it.
Very tidy and clean campsite, toilets and showers are cleaned regularly with sinks, washing machine, dryers and freezer all available (freezer doesn't freeze too well, had ice packs in overnight and they were just about frozen). Midgies and wasps caused a nuisance, take plenty of bug spray and citronella candles. Very dark at night so a good bright lantern is needed.
Pro's :- Great fun for kids. No noise after 11pm a great advantage (and warden takes no messing). Showers, Toilets, sinks, washer, dryers and freezer. Seclusion.
Con's :- Awkward to get to and find. Midgies and wasps. When it's wet its a bog so beware (good idea to take a gazeebo or like if your tent isn't too big on living area).
Overall great hol and would return again.

Still scratching my midge bites even now!! Midges are the worst part of this site, even the citronella didn't have any effect on them. We left our light outsite watching the moths head butting the glass and sat in the dark in our porch it was that bad.
We found the site difficult to find and driving through miles upon miles of baron land made me feel travel sick. I believe that the scenery was amazing but having to concentrate on the roads as they are rather narrow, I missed most of it. Leaving the M6, it took us an additional 1 hour to reach the site!!
Local shop in Eskdale Green is very expensive so I would suggest taking a trip to Egremont where you'll find a Kwik Save and CO-OP plus other shops. Park behind CO-OP cost 50p but you get a refund in CO-OP. Drive further to Whitehaven and there is a LIDL, Safeway (Morrisons now) and cheaper petrol. Didn't get to see the rest of the town as it was rather late.
The visitor centre at Sellafield was a great afternoon out on a rainy day if you can ignore the propaganda behind the free entry. Lots of interactive activities for all to have a go at and the staff are really lovely and its FREE!!
Fisherground itself is a great site with pros and cons like all have.
Pros: Camp fires, very clean toilets & showers 50p(showers perfect temperature but you have to be quick if you're washing your hair, especially if it's long like mine, 5 mins is all you get) being able to pitch anywhere, scenery spectacular, extremely friendly site owners who seem to spend all their waking hours maintaining the site and chatting to campers, owners don't take any messing from unsociable campers and ensure all campers adhere to the no noise after 11.00pm rule, whole atmosphere is very friendly and not forgetting Meg the dog, made herself comfortable at our campfire.
Cons: For us was the drive to get there, lack of onsite shop for those essentials (beer, milk & newspapers)dogs barking and scrapping although this was the minority, most were well behaved and lovely.
The miniature railway is a must although expensive. It cost us for 4 adults, 1 child and 1 under 3yrs £36.00 for the day so if you do decide to try it out, make sure you start early and finish late and ride up and down the line all day to get your pennies worth. Also get to the train early to get an open air seat.

Absolutely brilliant campsite. Both my daughters loved it, from the rafting pond and play area to the stream and railway. Plenty of good walking and pub grub nearby. Marred only by an inconsiderate group of fathers and children who were very noisy into the early hours. We complained and they left the next day. It seemed an isolated incident and will not deter us from going back again.

Went to this site with friends and their children after reading reviews on this site. We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend. No midges present. Took plenty of midge repellent just in case though. The facilities are clean - 50p coins op shower - all water is hot! Free water at washing up stations. Impressed with childrens facilities - our kids loved trying to fish in the stream which ran through the bottom of the site and played action man on the rocks behind the shower block. We all went for a trip on the railway (very pricey though - £24 for 2 adults & 1 child) the views were nice - went to Ravenglass called in the Ratty Arms and had 3 cheese sandwiches and a bowl of chips £9.50 - ouch! (Drinks extra) You have to tell the guards that you want to get off at the campsite otherwise they don't stop. The best thing about this site is the fact that you dont get any problems with noise or bad behaviour as the site owners are very strick with regard to the no noise after 11pm rule and will kick out anyone making a noise. The gates are closed after 11pm too. The campfires are a fantastic idea - pity some of the other sites dont adopt the same idea. It was great - our kids loved searching for logs in the woods. After finding just a few logs and twigs, we drove down to Eskdale Green village and bought logs from the local shop (£3 a sack) the atmosphere was fantastic - The kids sat around the camp fire with hot chocolate telling campfire tales whilst we parents sat back in the warmth of the fire mulling our wine! It was a very peaceful and quite campsite and we will certainly visit this one again.

I have to say-as does everyone who visits this site that the fact that we could have a fire was a real treat. I was saddened to see however the signs warning that if people continued to steal toilet paper to burn(I ask you!) they would stop the fires. We had the site pretty much to ourselves bar 4-5 other tents, and that was in itself made our holiday. I can imagine that the site could be too much in the summer when surrounded by hoards of children - but I am only saying that as I don't have children yet!!
The owners were truly fantastic, and they really could not do enough to accomodate.We camped as two couples with three dogs, and enjoyed the fact that our animals were so welcomed. I am also sad to say that Meg the dog was not on her best behaviour, and attacked four of the dogs on site. I think that she is a bit cantankerous in her old age- and apparently has a dislike for labs -especially black ones (three of the dogs on site were labs-two black!). However when I asked the wardens to remove her from the site , again they couldn't be helpful enough, but did suggest I spoke to the farmer directly (as he was Meg's owner).He promptly apologised and took Meg home straight away! I can't help that feel that maybe meg is getting a wee bit old and grumpy to be left to her own devices wandering around the site all day.
The site is beautiful, the surrounding area breath taking -DO NOT RISK HARDKNOT PASS unless your car and driver are up to it.The showers were clean (50p), there is a free hair dryer, and freezer.There is also washing machines(2x50p) and tumble dryers (50p).
It is a beautiful place to visit, I recommend that you do.My best advice is take insect repellent and ear plugs for an uninterrupted nights sleep-the murder of crows in the surrounding trees can only be heard to be believed (especially at 5 in the morning)

Yearly
Always used to camp at Fisherground campsite, then moved nearby. Got to know Ian The Paracending vicar who owns the site really well. It is a well run family site and they do not like same sex groups, although we noticed a few last year. Meg the dog is still about when she was a pup she was uncontrolable always in tents and was known to worry the farm sheep.
If you have any complaints Ian will sort them out nothing is too much trouble. Beware of the Scottish Midges that infest the area around August. There are hundreds of the little blighters we had to cut the last visit short they were that bad. Also be aware of Adders basking on bridges in high summer especially if you have children.
But adders and midges apart great campsite, clean facilities, and open all year. The local store can be pricey, take a short trip to Egremont where the larger supermarkets are. If you intend going over Hardnott pass make sure your vehicle is up to it. Our favorite pasttime as locals was to watch the idiots try to get over when there vehicle wasn't up to it. If you get stuck your on your own.

From Aug'85 to date
This is perhaps my favourite campsite !Been coming here for nearly 20 years now & still love the place ! Never got any problems when turning up on a motorbike (still do occasionally)or with my family & - rather naughty Staffie Bull Terrier.
The playground is excellent - wife loves the aerial slide & the kids think it's OK too! Superb scenery & some excellent walking if that's your thing. (Not really mine though -Scafell Pike nearly killed me!) Very friendly site-owners; toilet block recently refurbished & kept spotless.
Can get busy summer weekends & Bank Holidays but usually space to fit in, I've never had to move on for overcrowding reasons.
Nice site to visit in the Autumn as the colour changes in the trees can be quite spectacular. Open fires make a big difference - sat around an open fire in the evening with a few mates & a few 'cold ones' is thoroughly relaxing. Logs are available at the village stores in Eskdale Green, a 5 minute drive away also there's a place that sells them even cheaper if you drive right through the village, 100 yards on the right.
5 minute walk away is the George IV Inn - serves excellent food - hundreds of different whiskies (not my thing) & good ales (which are).
Child friendly, nice beer garden if weather permits, under new management & most welcoming.
Thoroughly recommend this site.

Once yearly (normally Easter)
I think the only thing that really springs out about this place (apart from the mini-railway, the adventure playground - Yes, I'm still a big kid, and the beautiful scenery) is Meg the dog!
First time I visited Fisherground, I think I was about 10 years old, and my parents and I set up a camp fire. Next thing you know, the farmers dog, Meg, ran over to us and pinched a load of our firewood!
After a few years, I returned there with my friends... Partly just to see if Meg was still around... She was. The lovely little thing with a now-grey face :o)
Facilities are wonderful on site - The toilet block is clean, showers are wonderful, and there are plenty of places for you to go and play hide and seek! No kids? Do it anyway!! *lol*
Recommendations - The Ratty train from the camp site into Ravenglass... Stanley Ghyll (near Boot) and just chilling out playing games on the site with lovely camp fire going! JUST WATCH OUT FOR MEG!!!

A great site in a lovely countryside setting, A family site that has a pond with rafts for kids to play on ( only wellie deep) and an adventure playground. Plently of room for kids to play, Camp fires are allowed on existing fire sites which there are plenty of, wood can be hard to find ?
No bar or shop on site but 3-4 good pubs within walking distance and shop in Eskdale Green Village. Ravenglass and Eskdale railway runs past bottom of site where there is a stop to catch the train, Near Hardknot & Wrynose passes, Scafell pike and Langdales excellent base for walking.
No hard standings or electricity, only tents, trailer tents and motorhomes allowed on site. We had a wonderful relaxing long weekend on this site did a couple of small walks, had a couple of camp fires at night, children ( two girls 8 & 15, one boy 13 ) had a great time. A real "get away from it all" site. Don't forget to pack the wine!!.
Excellent facillites. Clean toilet block. Clean Showers (20p). Washing up sinks. Washer and tumble dryers (50p) Free hairdryers / Iron
