First impressions of this site and warm welcome from the owners are both excellent. The basic facilities are of a good standard, the bonus being an endless supply of hot water and free showers. The views from the site are unrivalled in 3 years of camping. Excellent pubs and restaurants in Robin Hoods bay. However, check out the butchers in Fylingthorpe who deliver fresh homemade Pizza to the site on a Friday and Sat night.I know its not really basic camping but they are superb with a glass of red wine overlooking the bay. Good Site.

We've just spent four nights at this campsite. We found the site to be clean, well maintained and not too crowded. We were a bit worried when we arrived because the site is on a downward slope, but once we got pitched and set up, we didn't really notice it. This site is dog - friendly but owners are supposed to keep them on a lead - a rule which not everybody obeyed. The toilets and showers were kept clean throughout our stay, but be aware that there are only two showers per sex - expect to queue if you go first thing in the morning! Best of all were the owners - very friendly and always on hand to help. There are three pot washing sinks outside, and a further three in the barn, which also has a microwave, kettle and freezer for ice packs. This is at no extra cost. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. We'll be going back!

The inclusion of this site in a recently-published camping book seems to have done it no favours. After a frantic drive there on a Friday afternoon to secure a pitch (the site takes no bookings) we arrived, breathless, only to find a small-ish, sloping field with tents literally shoe-horned in. Guy ropes were crossing and tents were pitched at some very odd angles to fit in. We were wondering when the live music was going to start, the place looked so much like a summer festival! There was no shade and (I would say) no chance for any privacy whatsoever. If you could see over the top of the army of tents, I daresay there would be a nice view of Robin Hood's Bay. If you listened hard over the noise of children and two hundred people chatting, I daresay you might be able to hear birds chirping and waves lapping the shore. Not my idea of enjoyable camping, I'm afraid. We left.

BRILLIANT not much more than I can say had everything close to hand, lovely showers amazing views ONLY BAD POINT for me is if you dont have a electric hook-up you can't book and we set off early and glad we did, was busy and by 12pm was full. But the views are beautiful every pitch you see the sea and cliffs 9/10

What a great site! Even though we couldn't book and were told that the site might well be full (it gets very busy after about 5pm on a Friday if the weather is good) - we thought we'd take a risk. And it was well worth it! The staff are friendly, the view is amazing and even though the site was full, it has a peaceful atmosphere. The facilities are spotless and free. The walk down to Robin Hoods Bay takes about 15 mins (and there's a newsagents about 10mins along the route which is handy). We cycled the 7 miles over to Whitby along the old railway straight from the site. Definitely lives up to its reputation and we will go back again.

This site just gets better and better. Unrivalled sea views. A warm welcome and great facilities. A brand new kitchen this year with microwave, kettle and washing up sinks. It's just great and can't wait to go back here. As you can imagine it does get very busy and you can't book so my advice is get there early on the day you are going.

I took my six year old daughter here for one night as a mummy/daughter bonding session! I had telephoned in advance to check if I needed to book, and spoke to a really helpful man who gave me great directions. From the moment we arrived, Gill, the lady at the reception point was fantastic. She advised us on a great quiet spot, and was always around to offer information and an easy route down to the bay avoiding the main road. The toilets and showers were great, and there was also a separate field which lots of children were paying ball games on. As quite an over protective mum, I was really pleased that my daughter could meet other children in an enclosed environment. The campsite had a great atmosphere and I noticed a lot of musical instruments being played throughout the day, and respectfully quiet at night time. I would recommend this site for all ages as the view and the welcome was unbeatable.

We spent 4 nights at Hooks House over the late may Bank Holiday Weekend. The site is excellent for people wishing to visit Whitby, it is about 5/10 minutes drive along the road and the campsite is on a Long hill over looking robin Hoods bay, which can be seen from the Campsite.
The campsite is clean and very well maintained, the wc's and the showers are in portacabins and are all very clean. The showers are free with a push button to operate, there are wash up basins, a kettle and a microwave in a little stone building and there are also 4 wash up basins outside.
Overall the campsite is very large and there is a lot of room for groups of people with children. The campsite is on a long gradual slope but there are many flat area's.
The cost for pitching your tent was £5.50 per person regardless of number of cars or tents. There were mats down so the Road down the site doesn't get bogged down when wet. Our only complaint was that it was too cold and windy but you can't blame the campsite for that. It is nice little walk about 20 minutes down the hill to a nice pub at the top of the slope to Robin Hoods bay.
If you choose to stay at this campsite you will have a lovely time but unless you go at the very heights of summer then take a jumper or two.

This was our second visit to the site and even though it was a lot busier than our first visit in may we did not have any problems with the showers or toilets. Everybody was friendly and there was no late night noise. Gill and her staff were as friendly as they had been the time before and there if you needed them. We had trouble with our hook up as it wasnt long enough and the lent us an extension.
We had great weather and as we brought our dog we spent a lot of the time on the beach in Whitby. If you go to West Cliffe then you can take your dog on the beach there. There is a lovely beach at Sandsend that Gill told us about that dogs can go on. We had young children with us so we were given a pitch away from the road and had a great view over the bay. Looking forward to our next visit next year.

My wife, our 4 month old baby and I stayed at hooks house in September 2005, we found the site to be excellent, with good clean toilets and showers, helpful staff and very good views over the bay.
We paid £13 per night including electric hook-up for the 3 of us in our caravan. A short walk (15 mins) into Robin Hoods Bay is definitely worth it, the Victoria hotel serves fantastic evening meals and has Stella on tap. The site well located and is easy to find.
