We stayed on this site over the Half term holiday, Mon to Fri. Contact with the owner was good via email and by phone. Prices were very good, £21 a night for a unit and 3 adults. The site is very relaxed with not many rules posted, so you're dependent on well behaved campers (as it should be!).
The site is split in two, EHU next to the farmhouse and facilities and then non EHU on the opposite side of the road, next to the river. The road isn't busy, but there is traffic going quite quickly by. I wouldn't have chosen this site if I was non EHU, because of the road and no facilities on that side. There is some road noise till 11pm ish, then quiet till traffic starts again around half 6am. It didn't bother us.
The toilet block is basic but clean, all unisex, 2 toilets and 2 showers (1 toilet and 1 shower big enough for families needing to help little ones). It isn't heated, but the water was always warm. Next to this there is a worktop with hot and cold tap, plus a bowl for pot washing, the owner leaves tea towels and washing liquid for your use (when we were there anyway).
There are approximately 10 EHU grass pitches, spaced nicely out. 4 are on level ground, the others on a slope. I'm glad we got one on the flat, I wouldn't have been comfy on the sloped ones.
There is the Punchbowl pub a half hour walk away which served very good food (book in advance) and a little shop in Reeth, with a larger Co-op in Leyburn.

On a working farm, owners are lovely people. Grass EHU pitches levelling ramps maybe needed. Facilities are basic but clean, although could do with better lighting in shower block/pot wash area.
Other than that had a great time, great walks for the energetic there is a pub within walking distance which is dog friendly. Will certainly go back there.

Good site in beautiful and quiet surroundings. The owner who farms the nearby land was away when we arrived but we had pre-booked so pitched up where we wanted with ehu - cost £15. This was fine - he has a nice helpful and laid-back approach. Water was always hot and toilets and showers kept very clean. We had a great time there although the weather was indifferent. The saying that there is no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing applies.
We loved the site and will return. It may be basic for some but suited us well. The local volunteer bus service (the Little White Bus) can take you and your dog to the top of the dale (Muker and Keld) and down to Reeth and Richmond, though Reeth and back makes a nice walk anyway. Make sure you download the bus timetable before you get there from dalesbus. Org - it only runs 4x a day and there is limited internet connectivity on the site. But hey, you don’t go to Swaledale to spend all your time on your iPhone.
A safe place for children who love the great outdoors but it is not a site with play facilities etc.

Stayed here for 2 nights, they are 2 sites [one next to the owners farmhouse which has electric hook ups, with the unisex shower/toilet/wash-up facilities block close by ] and the other is on the opposite side of the road which is a lovely big flat field with water tap at entrance, overlooking the river swale
We didn't get a chance to use the shower block as a Hen party was occupying the electric hook up field and with about 20 girls in and out of the block we didn't bother, we had a quick look in and they were spotlessly clean and well stocked with toiletries.
The fields are located right next to the main road, but to be honest only half a dozen cars went passed so it was quite peaceful, we had the full field to ourselves and even though the hen party was in full swing on the opposite side of the road we could hardly hear them. There is a pub called the Punch bowl in the nearby village which only took 20 mins to walk to from the campsite, but you do have to walk on the roads as they are no footpaths, and Reeth is about 5 mins drive away.
The owner was a very friendly man and is there to help, but he also leaves you to pitch up wherever you want.
A fire pit is allowed as long as its raised from the ground.
Price for our small caravan [with no hook up][2 Adults] was £12 per night.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August with our young daughters in our campervan. The campsite was very quiet and we loved it that way. The shower block is next to the camping field in a barn.
The showers were always lovely and hot and they and the toilets were kept very clean. Dishwashing was round the corner and there was also plenty of hot water. I have seen that some say the facilities were basic, but I'm not really sure what else is needed?
Not having to pay a token metre for a shower makes these facilities the camping rolls royce!
The location is great. Whilst it's on a road, it's a quiet road and we were not bothered by any traffic noise at night. We made a few hikes from the site itself in the surrounding countryside and we also drove into Richmond one day (about 20 mins). I liked the look of Reeth but we had run out of time. Next time!
All in all, a great site. Thank you for a good stay.

What a lovely tranquil little farm campsite, stayed here on friday night in a campervan and had such a lovely peaceful stay. We were greeted at the farmhouse door with a smile by the lovely owners after enjoying a lovely meal at the punchbowl pub just up the road. It wasn't the warmest of evenings considering the time of year but the proximity of the immaculate shower/ toilet area and the instant heat from the showers and taps meant we were never cold.
Fresh flowers sat at the entrance to the quaint old converted farm building which also has an area for washing up and separating out your waste for recycling. I really cannot fault this place and we will be back as soon as we are able, especially considering the quality of the mountain bike trails that are available right from yr door. 10/10.

We stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday weekend. It is a basic no frills campsite which suited our needs and they currently charge £6 per person per night (in tents). The charge may be different for caravans and if you require an electric hook up. The owners(s) were very friendly and helpful.
There were two showers, two toilets and 2 sinks in the 'toilet block' which were unisex. These were kept clean and well stocked with toilet paper. The showers are free! The utility area was very basic, a couple of washing up bowls, drainers and a hot and cold tap (no sink) on a worktop. The hot water was very hot.
We were given a choice of flat pitching areas, across the road next to the river or in a large field behind a small field with electric hook ups. We chose the field behind the caravans as it was quieter, though there were quite a lot of low growing thistles.
Despite the heavy rain and thunderstorms on our first night the site didn't become waterlogged at all.
All in all we enjoyed our stay there.

Just got back from a lovely 2 nights stay, wish it could have been longer, to say it was jubilee/bank holiday weekend it was a fairly quiet. We didn't book & when we turned up we asked the owner if he had any room for 2 adults he said yeh just go in the field over the road & set up where ever you please, very friendly, & didn't want paying till we left.
To say the field is next to a road its a fairly quiet & didn't disturb us what so ever.
Nice flat field, with water tap & the river flowing at the bottom, no problem with midges.
If you wanting electric then you'll be in the little field next to the farm. But beware there is very noisy sheep, one actually sounds like a cow constantly baaaa / moooooing, so was very glad to be over the road away from it!
The toilets are situated over the road in a barn next to the farm, they are basic & mixed sex use, which comprises of 2 toilets & 2 showers, didn't use showers but I did here a few unhappy campers moaning about one of them not hot enough & they are 20p for 5 mins.
Pot washing is also in the barn, no sink just a tap, didn't use that either so don't know if water hot, I just boiled my kettle & washed them in a bowl in tent.
There is another field next to tents to let your dog have a run around.
The great things about this place is it only allows families & couples. No groups! so no loud parties going on till the early hours! no park so make sure the kids have some outdoory things to play with.
There is a pub 'punch bowl' about a mile down road but be aware they don't allow dogs inside as we found out after a rainy walk. & back with our dog. Didn't want to go in anyway, it's more like a bistro & not your nice friendly country pub which we expected! So it was back to the tent for a hot cup of chocolate for us.
No shops except for in nearby Reeth '2 miles'. Nice little village with some great pubs selling the lovely dales beers, also has a museum, it's ok to pass 10 mins on, but not worth the £3 each. No price guide we could see & the nice lady tells you all about the museum & then tells you that'll be £6 please with a nice big smile.
Richmond is worth a trip, the castle costs just under £9 each. Worth it if your into that kind of thing, . But don't expect too much for the price.
This little campsite is well worth £20 for 2 nights for the 2 of us, lovely scenery, back to basic camping just as we like it & will definitely be returning again soon

Management response: Glad you enjoyed the camp site.
The showers are now included in the price so campers no longer need to faff about with 20p coins.
There is a good hot water supply for washing up and these facilities are being upgraded to include a sink.
Come and stay again, it's still a super friendly little site. |

I found this site quite hard to find, the sat nav directs you to the bunk barn and although it does have signage to the campsite, it is difficult to read whilst driving.
The campsite is split with the tents on one side of the road and motorhomes and tents with electric hook up on the other. I found the electric hook-up kept cutting out so you had to be quite friendly with your neighbours as it could trip their electric out too.
The site was also sloping, which meant the seams of the ground sheet kept me from slipping into the field during the night.
The shower block holds two good sized showers, unfortunately the doors and the 20p coin operator boxes need numbering as it is slightly confusing. Whist I was there, little or any cleaning happened in the toilet/shower block and there was a definite shortage of loo roll.
A good base for walkers however the site was quite a distance from Richmond town centre and Reeth, the nearest village does not have a supermarket.
All in all, I don't think I will return which is a shame because the scenery was stunning, I just felt the site needed some TLC.
|
Management response: Sorry you had difficulty finding us, the post code has now been corrected.
The site now has a resident cleaner who provides the T.L.C. as well! Tour De France campers commented favourably on the posy of roses in the loos.
Why not try out the corrected post code? |

Spent a night at this site. It's a great place, with two fields: one fpr tents and another for campers and motorhomes with electric hook ups.
Facilities are clean and tidy but pretty basic and the showers aren't great. Site fees reasonable.
Location is excellent, right in Swaledale and easily accessible from Richmond. Lots of great walks from the site. Reeth nearby with a range of facilities. We went to the Punch Bowl Inn in Low Row. It's a 20 minute walk but the food and drink are excellent.
|
Management response: Good to hear you appreciated the excellent location.
Come and try the new showers. |
