A brilliant site
Very friendly owners who take great pride and care of this site. Fully gravelled roads and hard standings so no muddy boots in the caravan. Grass area adjacent to pitches for awnings. Toilets and free showers are sparkling clean. Nearby village has a shop and short drive to Barnard Castle with supermarkets etc. Look out for low force waterfall its not as dramatic as its big brother high force but much prettier. Great sunsets from the site. Plenty to do locally and well placed for dales, lakes and coast. Would recommend highly and will certainly be returning.
No score for child friendly as we did not have any with us so can't comment

Family of four in a pod. Although the weather was raining off and on.
This is a lovely, clean, organised, and extremely well kept site.
Upon arrival, the owners Ed n Kate were very welcoming and cheerful thoughout the stay.
The pod was great for our first camping experience as a family.
Not far from historical townships (Richmond n Barnard Castle).
Look forward to returning in better weather.
A huge thankyou to Ed n Kate for everything.
Blessed Be. Pedder Family
Sorry this review was left so long since staying, PC problems :-(.

A well kept site but little grass in the touring site (mainly grassed areas for awnings)so felt like we were in a car park. Showers and toilets very clean and functional, good dog field, local hostelries advertised as less than a mile away, but they were further away and not very walkable as on the road(no pavements), no footpaths which isn't good with children and/or dogs, which is the reason we chose the site so had to drive, however pubs were good, but a drive to hutton magna approx. 3miles away, was the best one we found.
We walked part of the Teesdale way, very overgrown to Whorlton, approx. 2hrs walk away but worth it for the village pub and tea room, the cream scone was excellent

We cannot say enough about the amazing welcome and customer service from Ed and Kate at Hillcrest Park. We arrived very late on a Sunday night after picking up a new car and caravan. It had been a very stressful journey with the new car giving us problems. Ed not only stayed up to guide us to our pitch, he helped us set up and brought us a kettle, cups, coffee and milk, which were much needed and appreciated. He even went above and beyond to find us a garage for the next morning. We only stayed the one night but will definitely go back.

We have just spent two nights at this site and found it to be very very peaceful despite being almost full. All pitches are hard standing and spacious.
Unfortunately we never got to meet the owners although their niece was very helpful on arrival.
Largest dog walk field we have ever seen. Only drawback we found was the shower/toilets needed updating. Great spot for a quiet stay.
If travelling west on A66 keep a sharp eye for the Caldwell turn off as we went sailing past.

Have stayed here several times and keep coming back, nice quiet site with lovely facilities, most of which are free!
Nice countryside setting with good access to surrounding area and plenty to do and see.
Gravel pitches are level and easy to access
Toilet and shower block are always nice and clean and showers are red hot, even though the site is nearly full there have been no queues for toilets or showers.
There is always a nice welcome from Ed & Kate, first class service.

We have had a wonderful 5 days on this site.
The pitches are all hard standings and laid out so well.
The toilets and showers are very clean.
The showers are always hot and free. There are other facilities like washing machine/tumble dryer but we didn't need to use them.
We have no family so cannot comment on what's there for kids.
The pitches are all surrounded by beautiful quiet countryside and shops etc all all within a couple of miles.
We will return again to enjoy the area and this great campsite.

We found this site as its close to Catterick, having had our van repaired and wanted to try everything out to make sure it worked.
All I can say about this site is I should have found it years ago.
On arriving we were greeted by the owners, Ed and Kate, who showed us to the pitch, which was level and a hard standing, then told us where the water and waste disposal was and then the toilet facilities. There are 2 toilets and 2 showers in the gents, and I am assuming there are the same in the ladies, are very clean and there was ample hot water. Just inside the toilet block there are books you can borrow or take away for a small donation if required. There is also local info and walking maps of the local area. We decided to do the Teeside walk along the river, take wellies as you have to cross the river.
In the afternoon we went into Barnard Castle which has a Morrisons so you can get any bits you may have forgotten.
All in all we shall be definitely be returning as for £18 including Electricity, awning etc was very good value.

Stayed here for two nights in march and enjoyed them. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Although the toilet block is basic they were very clean, everything you need is there including washer, drier and ironing facilities. The park itself was well kept, clean and tidy. There is also a good size field to exercise dogs in. While we were there the owners were busy creating more hard standing but this did not bother us. We enjoyed the peace and quiet so much that we did not bother leaving the site all weekend so can not comment on the local area. There is not much for kids to do on the site but this suited us. Overall it was a quiet and relaxing weekend on a well kept and run site. We have already booked to go back again.

We found this site on Uk Campsite at the last minute, looking for somewhere that was open all year round as we'd bought a second hand tourer before Christmas and were eager to try it out and check everything worked.
On their own website at the time, it said they weren't open all year but when I rang, one of the owners - Kate said that they just hadn't updated their website and they had taken over the site in April 2011.
When we arrived, it was a bit overcast but we were'nt worried about that, more so that the ground was soaked with how much rain they had had and the car and caravan got stuck! But Kate's husband came to our rescue quickly and re-towed and easily reversed our 2 berth straight onto the pitch.
We managed to get settled and made sure everything worked and settled up with Kate for the weekend. Kate and her husband were very helpful with advice of where to eat and drink locally and where the nearest supermarkets were if we needed more than a few basics. They also have a lot of information available within the entrance to the showers/washing up facilities etc. There were also a number of books and magazines available to borrow. We opted to head to Barnard Castle where there's quite a large Morrisson's, (amongst a range of other shops etc), which was under a ten minute drive away.
The showers etc are free and were immaculate. Because of the time of year we didn't have to wait as there were only a few other people on the site. There are 3 camping pods on site which are closest to the dog walking area - which was huge, approximately 3 acres and our dog loved the open space.
We paid £16 per night all in, Kate said that the price was inclusive and it didn't matter if we had an awning or not, how many adults, etc which we thought was good value.
Even though the site is a tad open to the elements nearer to the shower block as we were, it was a bit windy at times, but that really didn't bother us as we are very used to camping, so we had two fabulous nights sleep!
We visited Low and High Force which were magnificent apart from the cold of January and because of the rain they had had, the waterfalls were fantastic. We wanted to go further afield into Hawes and beyond, but we slept in as it was that peaceful!
No pub etc on site, but that didn't matter to us. They have some lovely looking holiday cottages on the site.
All pitches are hard standing and adequately spaced.
We had such a relaxing time, we booked prior to leaving to return in February and requested the same pitch nearer the shower block and other facilities and Kate was happy to book us back in.
Can't wait to go back!
