We liked the sound of this site from the other reviews and we were not disappointed.
The site was well maintained, toilets and showers immaculate with lots of free hot water(even had hand cream in the ladies)
The owners are very friendly and you can buy eggs, milk, bacon and other bits that you could have easily forgotten.
A pot wash with lots of free hot water. There is a washing machine and dryer(coin operated)iron and board if you need it.
The site is appropriately 15 mins drive from Barnard Castle, this an historic town with a mix of shops from Costa coffee to Antique/bric-a-brac shops. The castle ruins are worth a visit and the views from there are very pleasant.
We visited Darlington too, there is a super indoor market selling veg, fish and meat. M&S and other high street names sit beside independent traders.
We did drive out to Hexham on the scenic road B6277 and found the area stunning and such contrasts from barren wind swept to sweet cottages and quaint villages.
I would recommend this site and intend to return next year.
One thing that does need to be mentioned is there is no disabled shower or toilet

We stayed at Hillcrest in August 2011, my first 'go' at camping. We stayed one night in a lovely pod and 3 further nights in our tent.
Excellent facilities and lovely spot. Nice touch is a little bookshelf with books etc. in the shower block and lots of information on surrounding area. We visited Richmond, High/Low Force, Hawes complete with visit to Wensleydale Cheese factory. Our 12 year old son loved it, and so did our large lab as there is a lovely 'walkies' field. Kate and Ed very helpful and friendly. Full marks would definitely visit again, and have recommended to friends who have booked a cottage for summer stay 2012.

Lovely site, very peaceful with nice views. Owners very friendly and helpful. Plenty of water points around, would have liked to have seen more bins and recycling facilities.
The toilets and showers could have been better and more of them but overall they were more than adequate.
Good exercise paddock for the dogs which was great as we didn't get out to do as much walking as we would have liked as it rained constantly.
This site would appeal to lots of people as they also offer glamping pods and holiday cottages. I would happily recommend this site.

What a fantastic site this is, I don't think I have had as friendly a welcome. I can find no faults with this site at all.
The toilet and shower facilities were excellent very clean and warm. And even though the site was very busy you never had to wait.
The dog walking field is one of the best I've seen, our dogs had great fun. They are able to provide you with basic provisions like bacon eggs etc but if you need more Barnard Castle is only a short drive away.
I loved this site so much that within 5 mins of getting there I booked up for another weekend.

We have just returned from our second weekend at Hillcrest, we originally booked for a weekend in May but it was so peaceful we left the caravan there for a week and returned this weekend.
The shower blocks and toilets are immaculate and are centrally heated. Kate and Ed are very helpful(if you need any). We have already booked our next slot for July now we just need the sunny weather. !
If you like peace and quiet and lovely countryside for walking this is the place for you, give it a visit you will not be disappointed.

Just returned from Hillcrest park, Very nice smallish site. Only £20/night for family of 4 with hookup. Pitch was a good size. Site also has new wigwams and 5 cottages for rent.
Only down side is that there is only 1 sink in each toilet & 1 sink for washing up, but didn't have a problem with either, But could be if site is full.
The market town of Richmond is about a ten minute drive. If you have a budding F1 driver in you the motor park at Middlesbrough is worth a visit. 3/4hr from site.
Will go to Hillcrest again if visiting area again.

Lovely site for our first camping experience, nice clean facilities that included indoor pot washing area, clothes washing and ironing board. Very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. May try the camping pods sometime, they looked great.
Good base, within easy reach of the A1 for visiting High Force and North Yorkshire.
Fab fish and chips 4 miles away from 'Something Fishee' in the village of Gainford, that also has a local shop. We picked the menu up amongst the tourist information leaflets on the site. Childrens play ground in the next village of Winston, which is less than 2 miles.

We have just returned after a lovely week -end at this campsite and we will surely return again soon. Not overcrowded and very peaceful with lovely views all around. Kate and Ed are very helpful and friendly. Facilities are excellent toilets and showers immaculate.
I would definitely recommend this site.
The nearest shop is some distance away so make sure you take the basics. The nearby pubs offer very nice meals or snacks. Richmond and Barnard Castle and High Force are nearby so Lot's to do.
Really looking forward to going back.

Left booking Easter break too late but Kate responded straight away. The weather was great.
Our pitch was near to field so ideal for playing games. Small site, but lovely and quiet, east to get to from A1.
The toilets were clean and tidy and a few nice touches (toiletries etc) showers great plenty of hot water.
Lots of information around, even a small library! Very helpful and friendly couple. Lots of things to do locally, highly recommended.
