Visited this site for a weekend break 8th to 10th March 2013. What a gem of a find. Despite freezing cold weather with snow flurries we had an amazingly warm welcome from the licencee, his wife and daughter.
Okay, the toilet and shower block may not be 5 star with piped music, but it is very clean and more than adequate.
We were able to pitch on tarmac which saved mud being traipsed into the caravan, although we could have parked on grass if we so wished.
The hospitality inside the pub could not be faulted. The landlord and locals made us feel as if we had been using the pub for years.
The cloudy cider was perfect and the food was fantastic and great value for money.
For those wishing to watch television, you will probably need a satellite dish as our status aerial could not pick up any signals, but with the dish it was fine. On saying that not much time was spent in the caravan as it was more comfortable sinking into the large leather sofas in the small pub lounge next to a huge log fire.
We visited with some friends and so impressed were they with the site, they have left their caravan there and will be returning this weekend coming and also Easter weekend.
This site will definitely be on our list to return to and I can't rate it and the owners highly enough.

It was the first visit to this site and it was also the first time I used the caravan in the winter months but I will certainly visit this site again. My wife and I travelled on this trip with our friend and his wife, so we had two caravans. On arrival we were met by the owner Dave Powell and we were given the opportunity to pick our pitch.
The area is very picturesque and a good place to work from to explore the surrounding area. There was a huge supermarket and other shopping facilities all under the same roof about 1/4 mile down the road. It was nice to visit Newtown, Welshpool, Montgomery as well as other places in the area.
On returning in the evening it was lovely to relax in the Horse and Jockey bar with Dave and Heather (the owner and his wife), Their Daughter and other other caravanners who were staying on site. It was also possible to order a Sunday Lunch from the bar
All this and more for £15. 00 for the first night and £10. 00 for every night after. What a bargain

Stayed here in our campervan for 2 nights to bring in the New Year. Lovely big old dog friendly pub, full of character and the owners couldn't have made us feel any more welcome! The campsite behind the pub is ideal with all the facilities you need. The famous Harry Tuffins supermarket is within walking distance. A lovely pub in a lovely place !
Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to everyone !

We chose it for an overnight stop because of the favourable reviews and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere in the pub is very friendly and we had an excellent meal. We met a couple staying on a nearby up-market caravan site who had come to the Horse and Jockey to eat most evenings.
The owner is very welcoming and will go out of his way to help. We had a technical problem with our caravan and Dave knew that one of the caravanners on the site had the appropriate skills and arranged for him to solve the problem.
We entirely agree with the previous reviews and would highly recommend it for a short or overnight stop.

Our second visit, and again a great weekend, Many thanks to Dave and Heather for making us very welcome. The cider is awesome.
The pitches are close mown and quite large, also everyone has its own water tap. The shower block is always nice and clean with loads of hot water, the showers are free so its nice to have long soak.
The pub is great, the food and drink excellent with very reasonable prices, try the Sunday carvery, but book early, it gets busy.

When arrived we were meeting family so we weren't shown to our pitch as already knew pitch number. Pitches are a little on the small side if using an awning too but on the plus you do get your own fresh water tap.
There is one toilet and shower for each sex and disabled toilet which is a nice touch. Basic but clean enough but not warm. Although there is plenty of hot water for a lovely shower!
Dave and Heather, the owners of the pub and site very friendly and locals made you feel like you've been there before :-)
They do an excellent home made Carvery on a Sunday at £10. 95 for 2 courses which certainly got me out of cooking a Sunday roast! There are also some great guest ales worth trying The village is within pleasant walking distance, about 15 mins on foot.
Not a bad site for the price see other reviews. We will def return to see such lovely people and the great views over the Welsh boarder
P. S we used the train from Welshpool station(free to park) to Barmouth for a day out (£11. 50 adult return) well worth a visit of a sunny day!

We visited the Horse and Jockey on what was going to be the hottest October day since records began, and boy we were glad the pub had nice cold drinks.
The site has about 20 pitches and although the site description says they don't allow tents, we found out they in fact do. The pitches are large and close mown, but if you wish you can pitch up on the centre of the site which is tarmac. The pitches all have there own water taps and EHU, which are all in good condition.
The toilets and showers are lovely and clean with loads of hot water, they also have disabled facilities with are of a high standard. The views are beautiful and all in all a lovely site for a short break or a week or two.
The village is a short walk away which has another pub and a take away and of course the famous Harry Tuffins supermarket.
The Horse and Jockey is a great old place and Dave the landlord made us very welcome he serves a great pint of real ale and the menu is full of lovely pub grub. On the evening we turned up I had the steak and ale pie, it was scrummy. On S undays they have a carvery which is great, but book early, they get very busy.
In conclusion a lovely site, great facilities, Super pub and staff, and good menu. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. Oh and nearly forgot, we were charged £25 for 2 nights, bargain.

The first two reviewers have hit the nail right on the head with this one, a good basic clean site, with out the over the top frills! Although a caravan park, tents are accommodated on the grass area that surrounds central tarmac area. One thing to note is that there is no play ground equipment for kids, but there again; this site is at the back of a village pub!
We where charged £7. 50 for the night we stopped here, but I feel the landlord, will be open to haggling, depending on the size of your tent and the length of your stay.
The pub as I said is a village pub, the bar can be lively on pool nights, but don’t let this put you off as there is a lounge and a dinning room. Also if you stay in the bar, you will soon be taken in and become part of the crowd! One thing dogs are welcome but in the bar only!
Churchstoke has one other pub (which we didn’t visit), a Chinese takeaway, and Harry Tuffins supermarket, so one can stock up on supplies.

We were the only people staying on the campsite despite the glorious weather. The toilets & showers were clean, spacious & plenty of hot water.
The landlord was friendly & he served excellent beer of which there were two real ales.
The food is pretty basic pub fare but my daughter & I had the pie which was excellent. There is another pub in the village about 5 mins walk away which is also very good & again serves good ale.
In summary, not the prettiest site but who cares. Well worth staying a night or two.

We found this new site through ukcampsite and stayed for two nights. It was very reasonable, £15 for the first night, £10 for the second. This for a tourer, 2 adults, 2 dogs and hook-up. You also get a tap at every hook-up point which is very convenient.
It's a very small site with an area of hard-standing surrounded by grass, slightly elevated with attractive views of surrounding hills and fields.
The toilet/shower block is modern and tidy. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. The pub itself provides good pub food with vegetarian options, plus well-kept ales, and the locals were very welcoming too. (This was all much appreciated as we didn't feel like cooking on our first night!). We had the steak and ale pie which was very good and came with extra gravy, a nice touch.
We love the local area. There are interesting places nearby to visit, such as Clun and Bishop's Castle, and lots of footpaths and Bridleways, including Offa's Dyke Path.
We enjoyed our stay here, particularly because of the warm welcome we received.
