This was our first time camping, and just wanted to go somewhere quiet and this ticked all the boxes. A nice clean field opposite a farm. A wonderful place, really lovely lady, and really tasty pies. The toilet and shower were very clean, in all it was just a really nice place to camp and we will certainly be going back.

The owner treated us so well. Have the home made steak pie and peas, It is the beast. If you want a campsite that offers that personal touch then this is the one. My wife and I went away for the weekend and were made at home. York is not far away, but we decided to get the Bus. At £2.50 it was a great way to see the beautiful countryside. The people are very friendly and helpful. Wish I was still there. It is a working farm so they have chickens and cattle. I do not mind a cockerel in the morning, but some might. Overall a great time.

We spent two nights here in August just after the bank holiday when we came up to visit York. We had a lovely time, the field only fits in six units and we had it to ourselves. It's ideally placed for York, the park and ride is ten minutes away. Colton is a picturesque little village with a pub (more of a restaurant than pub) and church. For takeaways and supermarkets you have a 5 minute drive into Copmanthorpe - you really don't have to leave the campsite for provisions though as the farm shop sells eggs, milk, bacon etc. Not to mention the sumptuous farm produced meat pies delivered to your tent by Angela - the owner, who was very welcoming.
The facilities are limited but the shower and toilet are the best we've had on a campsite. There is also a fridge for campers use and one sink to wash up in - you do have to boil a kettle for washing up which is a shame, a freezer block facility in the shop would be useful too. All in all though this is a little gem of a site, we loved the farm and the campfire and had a great stay and hope to come back again.

Just got back from having yet another great time at Champs field, this is our 4th time here and hope it won't be the last. The owner was her usual bubbly self always helpful, nothing too much trouble, and of course the home made steak pies are something to die for, mmmm yummy. And delivered freshly baked to you van.
The weather was bitterly cold, but the welcome we received from the owner and her husband soon warmed us up, also not forgetting her mother in law, another lovely lady doing everything she could to make us very welcome, even collecting the fresh eggs for us to bring home.
We hope it will not be too long before we are there again, thanks to all the family, not forgetting their young son for making our stay very welcome

This was our second visit to this lovely little site. Angela and her family were great hosts, fantastic place for a campfire. The site is about 15 mins to York a nice place for an afternoon visit then round the fire. Also on site a lovely tea room with good prices. The thing which gives this site the edge for us is the dry room to make a nice cup of coffee or just to sit in if weather not good. We will be returning and recommend.

We stopped off at Champs Field, Home Farm, on our way up to Pickering, and what a lovely little site it is, the owners were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. There is a nice little farm shop, toilet, shower, waste water and Elsan disposal unit and a wash up area. We also had a Colton minced steak [steak pies had all gone] and mushy peas, served at our pitch, and it was scrummy, would recommend this little gem to anyone, we enjoyed ourselves so much we stopped there on our way back, and will hopefully be stopping there again,
Thanks very much for your hospitality to all the family, you made us feel really welcome.

Champs Field is on our list 'campsites-to-go-to-again' - everything is like it should be. Cosy and calm, simple and clean.
If there wasn't York to explore (take the bus to see a bit of the beautiful countryside), you wouldn't want to leave the campsite at all.
Delicious Pie and Peas delivered to our campervan, everything we need at the farmshop and, not to forget, the loveliest owner we've ever met.

Campsite was very nice. Food from the farmshop was amazing. You have to give the Pie and Peas a try which get delivered to your tent, Very nice. Toilets and Shower facilities very good and nice and clean.
This is the first campsite I have stayed at where they have a communal campfire which I think more campsites should do as you get to know the other people who are camping there.
No need to take anything really apart from your tent and camping gear. You can buy almost anything from the farm shop including wood, logs and lots of delicious food.
The pub which is about a 2 minute walk away is very nice although a little pricey.
We had a walk into the Village which was just over 3 miles away. Word of warning though if you fancy a drink there don't go until 4p. M as the only pub in the village only opens at 4 p. M.
Although we didn't venture into york or the surrounding areas there are lots of places to go. Macdonalds is about a 5 minute drive away and Tesco is about the same.
We ordered a pizza on our last night which was delivered to the campsite and was very nice. If you ask at the farm shop they have takeaway menus.
We will definitely be returning. Great campsite, Owners very friendly. Great facilities.
If you are looking for somewhere with arcade machines and swimming pools and nightly entertainment then this is not the place for you. However if you are looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the countryside then this is the place for you.

We had a lovely visit at this very cosy, friendly site.
Wonderful family run farm, very clean and well thought out. Nice private shower, clean roomy toilet, great little bad weather shelter with local info and reading matter, puzzles etc.
In a lovely little village with very nice little pub which has nice outdoor areas and attractive indoors (though the pub is quite pricey)
The shop on site is closed Mon and Tues, but, anytime you ring the door bell at the shop, and someone is home, they will come out and serve you.
They stock everyday essentials, their own tasty meat and eggs, and assorted craft items.
We were made to feel very welcome and look froward to going back again.
The only downside was that there is no electric hook up. But there is a small fridge and one socket in the bad weather room, which can be used.
Also a very welcome electric kettle to save on heating water for a cuppa or soups etc. And a washing up sink plus a chemical toilet disposal facility. All-in-all, we highly recommend this site.

Just returned from a short break at Champs Field, due to the recent weather we checked prior to visiting that the camp site was open, and received a very speedy reply to confirm.
Owners extremely friendly and helpful. Bad weather shelter was in excellent condition, with magazines, kettle, radio, fridge, books, local maps and spotless toilet and shower (with its own toilet roll, shower mat etc. )Also a place to wash pots undercover!
The campfire was well laid out and a lovely evenings entertainment after purchasing logs/wood from the farm.
Again, great service - even got to wander around the farm. The site is small but good ground and easy access on and off as well as locating it from the A64. Village is brilliant for long walks, plenty of public footpaths all well maintained. Would highly recommend!
I'm sure we'll be returning sometime in the near future. Thanks!
