We have just got back from this site and although it was only our first time using our FC on a site we found Hedley Wood great. The facilities were fine (Showers could have been a bit more powerful but they were hot), plenty of space for the kids and walking area for the dogs, Bar and Shop were Good, staff were all friendly and very helpful. All in all I would recommend the site and we will be going back at some point.

I will firstly say that the communication with everyone at this site was and has been excellent and they have been very helpful but. It is a very run down site and desperately in need of updating. They are doing lots of work there but as out of season no-one to ask just a phone number to ring, no reception open and no facilities like shop or bar open.
No signs to where toilets and showers were from the main area. Took us a while to find them down some very precarious steps and even then not easy to locate. We found out later that the washing up block was down there too.
The toilets and showers were dreadfully outdated. The electric showers were sprinklers only with no real power. I went in the block and it was in darkness and couldn't find the light switch for a while. The ceiling lights look like they have never been touched in 20 years and half don't work. The showers (3) are tiny with no room to move. The general feel of the place is scruffy and old fashioned.
As the site is so dark and we arrived late at night trying to park on the hard standings was very tricky as no room to swing so we ended up half on and half off the pitch and got stuck on the grass wheels spinning. A very lovely man towed us out in the morning, thank you. So be careful as pitches aren't that wide and if you arrive after dark they are almost impossible to see. The electric hook-up didn't work so we survived with our own power. Next morning still no power. So very disappointing. The place was a quagmire which didn't help moving about the place.
Its a shame because the attitude is right but the site just needs a big facelift to bring it into the 21st century from the 80's
Not sure I'd go back until it was sorted out. Oh and the track going down to the site is narrow with ditches either side which look very dangerous if you're towing.

Cannot fault this site!
We had some spells of awful weather while we were there but not the site's fault :)
Also the site was quite a distance from local points of interest (for us) but again not the sites fault. If you are looking for countryside location this is the site for you!
Friendly welcome, well stocked shop, club house, nice long dog walk, we were allowed to choose our own pitch - even though it was bank holiday/jubilee weekend, toilets and showers were in a new block and were always very clean.
My tip would be if you want TV reception go up to their Upper Meadow - FAB views up there too!

Stayed here for just the one weekend, Friday to Sunday and we found excellent facilities and our two girls both under eight loved it, especially the pets corner and play area. Family friendly site. Though we left our dog at home this time we were impressed by the site's kennels. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were very clean and tidy and there was a relaxed atmosphere, with a great clubhouse and restaurant. Very good value for money. Will go back for a whole week next time.

Wow, what a great site, best we have visited yet, so laid back, relaxed and such friendly helpful staff.
We arrived and were asked to park up, take a tour of the site to decide where we would like to pitch, anywhere was fine with them! After choosing we were then sent on our way to set up and once settled to come back and pay later. Staff were so helpful, would go out of their way to help.
We ate in the bar the first night, super food and great value, dogs welcome in the bar which was great for us as our dog comes everywhere with us, he enjoyed chilling out in the bar too
The site has so much for everyone, parks for the children, oversized pitches, hot showers, laundry room, bar with tv, pool and games, animals to visit, woodland walk, so much.
Beaches arent too far away, we visited 3, widemouth, summerleaze and crooklets, we preferred crookets as not only dog friendly, our boys enjoyed crabbing and watching the surfers! super places to visit,
Site is central for all, situated of track so no hustle and bustle, would def recommend to anyone, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even our boys didn't want to leave!

Have been camping 'on and off' for forty years and have yet to find a more friendly and dog friendly site. The site was busy yet all of the staff were friendly and helpful.
During our week's stay we spotted only two unpicked doggy poops - so if you are not a responsible dog owner don't go.
We visited in July 2010 and found the facilities 'top notch'. Particularly enjoyed the dog walks and the food in the restaurant.
Going back again this year - and really looking forward to it! - need I say more!

Really, really great site!
It was really friendly and laid back, when we arrived I asked if they wanted our payment and the lady said she didn't mind and would happily take it later when we had settled in.
We didn't go to the bar or anything, so can't really comment on that.
Lovely man showed us to our caravan and made sure everything was as it should be before he left.
As our caravan was perfectly nice, we didn't venture to the shower block or anything (even though they were free for people in caravans as well as campers)
Bude was about 7 miles away, so a car is a must-have, unless you don't want to leave the site.
Really good value for money and very relaxed.
There was a group of 5 of us (all female under 25) and they were happy to take us, which was great, as most places will not accept single sex groups.
Will be going back, for sure.

Disappointing arrival, no set out parking for touring caravans. Asked to have a walk around and pick our own pitch, advised the better toilets were at the top field. We chose the upper meadow, a sloping pitch which even though it was on the top of a hill never drained all week and remained mucky. The toilets were visited by cleaners every day, but there was no soap in the ladies all week, nowhere to dry your hands (no driers). And the gents toilets had no hangers in the cubicles and a unidentified brown mark on the one wall there all week that looked like pooh! There was no lighting at all at the top end off the park because the bulb had gone in the only street light.
On making our booking the lady told me the site was only 4 miles from Bude, she neglected to say if you drive down a single track road for fifteen minutes you then see a sign that says 6 miles, you had to drive everywhere because it was too far to walk. We tried the food and waited just over an hour for a mixed grill and a lasagne, another disappointment. Although some campers like the laid back approach as a paying customer I expect higher standards.

We have been staying at this site on and off for the last 20 years. This site is so wonderfully laid back and peaceful with wonderful scenery all round.
We have stayed in our tent and also hire out one of the static caravans if our family choose to join us. There is a lovely clubhouse/bar on site which serves great food at a very reasonable price.
The owners are the most helpful people, they have helped us out many times and one year even helped my husband to fix the broken radiator on his car. We are staying here again in 4 weeks time.
We feel the 8 hour journey to get there is very, very worth while

Hidden gem! We turned up, parked caravan, bumped in to MOS who advised us to walk site to choose where we wanted to stay and then just pitch up. Loads of little areas surrounded by trees and hedges so although this is a good size site it doesn't feel like you are in middle of a large field. Play areas are good, kids very happy. Showers ok, bar was fine and meals seem reasonable although we didn't eat, we only popped in once as not really our thing.
Dog walk is brilliant, you can go in one end of woods and walk a round circle and come out other side of site. Huge added bonus for us was kennels, don't expect them to be of commercial standard but for a few hours while we took kids to beach they were a godsend and reasonable cost and dogs seemed quite happy.
We were so happy with site we have left caravan there at very reasonable weekly storage so we can come back in summer hols and then will take it back with us then! Widemouth Bay is nearby as has beachside parking at reasonable cost and facilities. Would recommend this rather than Bude for families and 1 part of the beach is dog friendly all year
