Very, very laid back site. Reception not open on arrival, but was guided to a pitch by a helpful member of staff. Due to being out of season there was no bar/restaurant open. The toilet/shower facilities in the lower part are dated and not the best by a long shot! Like other comments on here, we had a job to find anybody to take your money. Dog walk bins needed emptying and to many old/scrap caravans near the bottom field. Could see it being a friendly and busy site in the summer, near to Bude.

Have camped at Hedley Wood a few times now. Have stayed in their static caravans and also camped in our own tent. My parents keep there caravan here too.
Staff are really friendly and relaxed and will help with any problems.
There is a small shop with all the usual basics. Nice warm bar that serves food and indoor games room with a big fish tank that littleys love.
Kids play area is fab and my kids love to go up and feed the goats in the farm while we're there.
They are very dog-friendly and have a giant dog exercise field.
Would recommend staying up in the top field if you have children as new toilet block is fantastic. Changing area and sink large enough to sit a toddler in for mini bath!
There is a nice pub and takeaway a short drive away, village shop a bit further and a Morrisons in nearby Bude. There are a few nice beaches to visit and Bude is your classic Devon seaside town with fab seaside shops.
They are happy to accommodate large groups and we actually celebrated my mum's 50th birthday here.

Spent a week on this site near Bude with wife and 2 jack russells in our Bailey and the daughter and her family hired a static. Very laid back and friendly atmosphere but reception is only fully manned during summer holidays so be prepared to ring round for attention when you arrive. We had very spacious pitch in the middle meadow lots of wildlife and very peaceful. Only problem was we arrived in stormy weather and were eaten by nasty horse flies, can't blame the site owners for those though!.
Bins and water were very close by though it was a little way from the chemical disposal point. Toilets and showers at the top of the site were very clean and tidy, the ones at the bottom were a little older but still couldn't fault the cleanliness. Clubhouse that sold basic meals in the evening with some very nice cider and games room below. Grandson loved pets corner and the play park and spent ages watching Nemo swin round in the large fish tank in the games room.
Dogs spent a day in the kennels on site and came back none the worse for the experience so all in aall a very chilled out and laid back week. Staff were very friendly and we didn't spend all week feeling as though our evey move was being monitored. A good place for children to roam and families to spend time together away from it all.

Site management great, not bothered about payment, in fact we offered on arrival, and were told it could be sorted later, then on our last day, we had to chase them to pay.
Got set up in the Lower Meadow, and had the whole thing to ourselves for the week, the play areas needed a little T.L.C but you can see it is underway.
Shower and Toilet facilities, at the bottom end of the site are basic, but adequate, we didn't go in busy times, and if the site is busy, I can see it would be a real hassle waiting for someone to finish.
The site is well situated, but you do need a car to get to local shops or the beech, we used, the local swimming pool in Bude which has a wave machine and water slide as well as a kids play area next to it which is ideal in bad weather

Just returned from a week at this site over bank holiday weekend.
Upon arrival I realised that the site did not have switch facilities, only cash or cheque with a bank card. I had neither on me but it was not a problem was told there was a cash point local in Bude and to drop the money in the following day! (which of course I did).
As we have a large tent, we were directed to the lower field, could choose a pitch wherever and was told if the ehu did not reach to pop back and borrow an extension free of charge! As they had experienced heavy rain for 4 weeks prior to our arrival as you would expect the site was quite muddy and boggy, however the owners were trying to limit the site getting any worse by preventing cars from driving across the camping fields. Over the course of the week the fields did dry out considerably, however cars were still not allowed on which was a good thing in my opinion.
The site had 2 great play areas, shop, pool tables, bar, nice food at a reasonable price, facility to exchange gas bottles, small area with animals and birds. The shower blocks at the top of the site were much newer and better than the showers and toilets by the bar area, however we just took a drive to the top block each day on our way out.
Overall a great site, not too expensive, with a laid back atmosphere in a great location for exploring surrounding areas. Would definitaly return to and recommend this site.

This is the first time we haved stayed on this site, and we were really impressed. The kids loved the play parks and animals, the dog loved the walks, and myself and husband loved the fact that they were all happy! There was a bit of mud, however the facilities, showers and toilets included, were lovely and clean (no mean feat with the weather we experienced). There is a garage about a mile away for milk, papers etc, or a large supermarket in Bude, five miles off, a car really is essential here. If you like free ranging, happy kids, dogs and other livestock! this is the place to be.We will be back.

This should have been a great holiday - the facilities are good, location great and general set-up is very laid back and relaxed. However, the mud was atrocious and ruined the visit. Think Glastonbury.
We could have dealt with the constant rain, but the fields were saturated and turned into a quagmire. We were due to stay for 7 nights but gave up after 3 because of the mud. Although the field looks grassy when you first pitch, after you've walked on it once it turns instantly into squelchy thick, gloopy mud. And the stench of the mud was horrific. It took us nearly 4 hours to try and clean the groundsheet off afterwards which was caked in mud - we didn't manage it so are having to pitch it again at home and clean off the rest. If I never smell that rotten stink again I'll be happy. The owners said it was a mixture of silage and clay on the field which is 'a potent mix'. This is an understatement!
This is not the owner's fault (although they probably shouldn't be allowing people onto lower meadow because it's so bad) and they were doing their best to help (every car needed towing off the field with their tractor because the mud was so bad - but again, that made the mud even worse) but it had been raining there for 3 weeks constantly. So, in short, if it's dry there then this would definitely be a site worth staying at. They do a Sunday carvery which is really good value (about £5 a head) and evening pub meals in their bar. Showers need updating in the main block but they are functionable. Loads of space to pitch larger than average tents and lovely people working there. Shop is limited (no fresh meat etc for bbqs - but the rain prevented that from being an issue - and no newspapers) but has all the basics.
As we left they were trying to get the field accessible for the bank holiday campers (we left on August 19th), but once you get onto the field prepare for mud! If you are going, you're well advised to ring them to check on the mud conditions as I wouldn't want anyone to go through the nightmare we had there.

We have just got back from our 12 night stay here. Although the weather was not kind to us and the field was extremeley muddy we had a great time. The kids (11 and 8)loved the play areas (especially the one that was hidden) and the farm animals. The dog walk tho was a big let down it was a very muddy lane just wide enough for a person to walk down and it looked a bit scary to go down aswell so we never used it. The site is kept tidy, but the bushes could do with a trim now and then and the top toilet and showers were clean. The showers are also just the right temperature.
The pitches were a good size and if you stay in the middle meadow it is quieter than down by the bar.
The shop was only only open a few hours in the morning and evening and with the shops about 5 miles away you do need to plan ahead (especially for your milk with your coffee in the morning!)
The owners were great they were always there to help even to the point of helping us park our van exactly where we wanted it when my clutch burned out. He always had a smile on his face.

We stayed here with our daughter, son in law and grandchildren during the spring bank holiday week. We were in a campervan, they were in a tent. It rained. We were O.K but they were very, very muddy. The children loved the play area and the fact they could ride their bikes but I am not fond of dogs and neither is one of the children and there were a lot of dogs on site and dog mess in the play area.
The new toilet block is really good and clean.
We did use the club house to have a meal one night which was O.K.
I felt the site was a bit too crowded and a bit expensive for what was there and would not use it again.

We got to this site, area very nice and the site was a nice one, some things really let it down though, the static we stayed in had no working heating and the gas fire was broken, the guy did come around next day to repair it all however ! There were 4 adults staying in our van and not 1 of us could get a phone signal (all diffrent networks) but we could once off the site a mile or so up the road. The site said they had a shop but it was never open ?? The nearest shop was in bude about 7 miles up the road. There is a bar on site that opens at 7pm but closed when it felt like it. We went in on a friday for the owners to shut it all up at 10.30pm, thought this was a bit wrong of them as it was peoples last night on the site and next nearest place is bude or holsworthy 6 miles or more. So after drinking 3 pints in the sites bar we were stuck for the rest of the pub opening hours as we was unable to get to another bar due to drink driving laws and distance. If there was a notice to say they shut early then we wouldnt of used their bar! Other than all or problems with the site, the kids liked the park and small farm
