I recently stayed at California Park for a total of 18 days due to work commitments.
First I would like to thank them for the excellent customer service they provided and the help they provided in setting me up.
The park is a beautiful place to visit set within the woods. It was the most relaxing 18 days in a very long time (not including work).
The shower block has just been refurbished and looks amazing. The showers are free; although you can't adjust the temperature they are warm enough.
Overall I had a wonderful experience and will be visiting again in the future.

Fantastic site, with really clean wash blocks. The staff, were really friendly and very helpful.
There are pretty walks around the lake.
The campsite is really well looked after, the dog was made very welcome, all the people staying there seemed to be enjoying their stay.
Would love to come back very soon!

After reading last couple of reviews for 2011 was expecting a lovely site – was very disappointed
We booked for 2 nights to be able to do a day’s fishing (was discussed at time of booking) – on arrival Fishing Closed - reception chap was not bothered
Good parts: Nice and quiet with plenty of wild life; our pitch was next to the lake
Bad parts: Site is definitely over priced at £30 a night
Ancient hard standing pitches with crumbling edges and not very level for awnings.
Overall site not very well drained and due to number of trees very muddy. Water points and hook up points old and tired rigged with tape. Water on ours did not work and we were told to connect to pipe 2 pitches away. Waste water drain was blocked.
Site seems to be in decline as chalets by us definitely needed some TLC
Toilets clean but have seen better days - most seem to have been built for midgets. On top of excessive price you have to pay for a shower and you cannot adjust water temperature. It would also be nice to have somewhere to put soap/shampoo.
There are no pubs within walking distance. There is a co-op and chip shop & pharmacy within half a mile.
Would not stay again

Stayed here for work for a week as it was the closest to my office. The price was very expensive I though, my pitch was a concrete level hardstanding, although I wouldn't have had much space for the awning plus car had I needed.
Had my own water point + EHU which was handy. My pitch backed directly onto the lake and was surrounded directly with trees which made it feel very private and picturesque.
The site overall looked clean and well maintained. The showers were clean but badly designed. The cubicles were way too small which meant your clothes and shoes got soaked during the shower.
In the end I had to balance my shoes on top of the door to stop them filling up with water! Needed to pay 20p for the shower (I needed 40p) which I don't always mind as you don't get the annoying 15 second push buttons. There was no way to control the water temperature though.
Didn't explore the surrounding area. Overall site was great and I'd recommend it, but I found the price a little high and the showers annoying.

Bit of confusion when we arrived. There was already a caravan on the pitch we had been allocated but this was quickly sorted.
Pitch was next to the lake on a large hardstanding. It was quite difficult to negotiate onto the pitch unless an experienced driver. The pitch had a water point close by and grey water drainage. Electric hook up was very close.
Showers were clean and hot. Washing up area was also clean and the water always hot.
The site itself is part of the country park and the walks were lovely. Beautiful scenery. Very peaceful site other than some worker who were using the chalet nearby. They left for work fairly early in their van which was quite noisy. Other than that the only noise was the ducks and the rain!
Despite the rain, we had a lovely time. There was a supermarket nearby for shopping, and a chip shop down the road.

Went there for a camping trip with eight others. My first impression of the campsite were this looks beautiful. This toilet and shower facilities were great they were very clean and hygienic.
There is a nearby country park just up the road with has a swimming pool and adventure playground.
This campsite is set in a forest which contains lots of wildlife like swan, owls and fishes. There is a lovely lake in the campsite. I would recommend it to all my friends as I enjoyed it so much.
Best Campsite I have ever visited.

We stayed for 3 days in September 2011
Good parts: showers nice and powerful
Little cafe for breakfast within walking distance 3 mins
One or two corners of the site have a pleasant aspect, but only those that aren't under trees.
Bad parts:
Facilities: Ancient hardstanding pitches with crumbling edges leading to many muddy patches, not well drained. Water points and hook up points old and tired, some jury-rigged with gaffer-tape.
Toilets clean enough but often run out of toilet paper, soap dispenser empty, kept having to remind the solitary caretaker chap to renew / replace.
Overall the problem is that most of the site is muddy due to the fact that it is amongst a forest, hence no light, hence no growth of grass in many large patches, which turn into very filthy muddy mires when a few cars have churned them up. Our caravan carpets had to be properly cleaned after leaving.
Their is 1 lady who runs reception 9 to 5 and one young eastern European caretaker, so outside office hours, forget it.
There are no pubs within walking distance, the nearest is 2. 5 miles. There is a co-op and chip shop & pharmacy within half a mile.
Lastly, from a financial point of view it's way overpriced. £23 / night, on top of which it's 40 p for a shower (20p if you're quick), but get this, the T&C' state 2 evil clauses:
1) No refunds in any case and full payment of your stay in advance, no exceptions. So if you book five days, and need to cancel even 3 months in advance, you've lost £115 right off.
2) No electric heating allowed.

This is an odd site but we had a good camping trip overall. It is set in a beautiful location right on a fishing lake and a country park.
There are a number of old chalets which I suspect are mainly for fishermen as I'm not sure a family would stay in them. The pitches are also mostly hardstanding and we had to search hard for an area that was not concrete or didn't have too many tree roots. The site is not ideal for tents in my opinion and is much more suited to caravans.
You also need a lot of 20p's for the showers but these were clean and were powerful.
Location wise we visited Windsor and Legoland and these were not too far away. The kids had a wonderful time playing by the lake and had the freedom to go off on their bikes.
Overall a good trip was had by all but I wouldn't return with a tent because the ground was hard, full of roots and quite pricey compared to other sites I've visited.

What a wonderful and picturesque location. The site surrounds a fantastic lake filled with ducks and birds of all varieties. We had nothing but peace and tranquillity during our stay. I don't think I saw a single staff member once while we were there but none were needed. The facilities were clean and modern with everything that one might need for a comfortable stay. My only concern was our pitch. I did point out when I booked that we had a six man tent but the pitch we were given had just enough room, we were lucky that we were the only people there otherwise we would have become very friendly with our neighbours. My only other criticism was that the pitch wasn't level. We had to rearrange our bedding upon going to sleep to stop ourselves from feeling like we were falling down a cliff, albeit a very small one.

We visited this site as a 'first try' having bought a camper van the previous day and wanted to make sure we knew how to work everything.
Tried booking by phone to check if site was actually open, but no answer to calls, so as we were quite local, we drove to site and found phone number on door to ring when office not manned. So possibly would help if alternative phone number was made available on web site and / or calls diverted when office closed.
After calling the alternative number, we were let in by a young man, through the electronically monitored gate and told to park wherever we wanted. We went to the first pitch we came to, as it was 8 pm and very dark (lighting on site is minimal). Found ourselves facing a lake, which freaked my daughter out a bit, as we had 3 young children with us, but we were only there for the night anyway, so this wasn't really a problem, and the next morning, the children were over the moon at being greeted by ducks and swans and we made sure they fed them before we left.
Not a huge site, so we found everything well enough. All facilities very clean and well signposted. The nearby kiddies park was lovely as were the surroundings.
Will definitely go again - so pretty
