This is a very beautiful site and you just have to be careful of getting from road to pitch as it can undulate & we grounded our back feet. That said it was worth it as the pitches are lovely and they really are 6m apart. The facilities are clean & well maintained though 3 showers aren't really enough at busy times like this weekend. But it was all free.
It was kayak central with lots of people canoeing on the mill pond and the little river. Great walks too even coming a cross a field of Alpacas.
There are downsides, sadly, as I would love to have given this site a 10/10.
There is no time for quiet at night or until time in the morning and sadly there are some who abuse it. Both our nights there were disturbed with children running around and screaming & playing at 10:30 pm which was very unfair as everyone else on the site was so good because at 10pm they all went quiet. The children we were with were woken up by this both times.
Both mornings we were woken before 7am by people who wanted to talk very loudly especially on the Sunday with a chap who gave a blow by blow account of how he was packing up.
If there was a time stated & most sites say 8:00 am I am sure this wouldn't happen. We aren't all early risers.
Only other thing be aware of the approach road. It was beautiful weather this weekend & lots were coming to visit the mill so interesting getting out. Will we visit again? probably with our friends but not on our own.

Fourth visit to this wonderful site and it definitely wont be the last.
The whole site is immaculate, yes I know its very undulating but never had a problem getting a level pitch. The wardens are the friendliest and the most helpful we have ever come across.
We choose this site because we can arrive, park the car and leave it there for the duration of our visit.
Some excellent walks both shorts ones and long ones.
We ate in The 3 Jolly Butchers, both the food and the beer were excellent.
There is no doubt that we will be back there again soon

This is the first time back for a number of years and could not be more impressed. A brilliantly kept site, and the wardens are of the highest standard could not do enough to help.
The washrooms were keep spotless. I will be returning in the near future and would recommend others to give it a go

Nice little campsite situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse in Houghton near Huntingdon. Access to the site is from the A14 and the site is signposted off the A1123. When you reach the bend in the village you have to drive across what looks like a car park then down a lane and the site is at the bottom on the left.
The site itself is very undulating but there are level pitches if you look out for them failing this you will have to use levellers, all pitches are on grass. The facilities were good but we didn't think there would be enough toilets, showers and sinks if it was very busy (there was 3 of each in the men’s and the women's).
Although we were there in August it was not crowded but there was still a bit of queuing. However I totally disagree with the comment below re it stinking of urine and scruffy as they were kept clean at all times although I accept they could do with a bit of refurbishment. Perhaps it has improved in 2016.
Fellow motorhome owners should note that although the site states it has Motor Home emptying point strictly speaking this is not true because you cannot drive over it and have to park as near as you can and use a bucket. I noted a lot of motorhome owners who were obviously aware of this and were using wastemasters.
This is a lovely area for walking and cycling. We used the cycle track at the rear of the site (by pitch 7) to walk the mile and a half to St. Ives, which was a lovely place with nice tea rooms on the river. Houghton itself has the Mill to visit and walks along the river and to Hemingford Abbots.
In the village there are two pubs and we ate in the Three Jolly Butchers and had a good evening meal which was reasonably priced.
Overall we like this site and the surrounding area and would happily visit again.

Stayed here for a weekend in June, and is an absolutely lovely campsite.
We had and electrical tent pitch which had no problem in accommodating for our large tent size (8mx7m)
Staff was very friendly and very helpful.
Toilet and shower facilities were immaculate and warm.
Lovely area to walk the dogs and lots of things to do nearby - worth a mention is to go to the Raptor foundation - kids loved the bird of prey show and so did the grown ups!

We loved this site!
The pitches were a generous size, level and well maintained.
The water, waste and bins were all easy to find and easy to use.
The facilities were fantastic; lots of toilets, showers and sinks. All clean and well kept.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The village shop and pub is just minutes walk away.
We will definitely revisit this site. It's a little gem.
Well located for walking and if you like shopping it's not too far from Cambridge.
For £20/night with ehu, we think it was super value.

We (family of four with two young children) had a lovely three days at this campsite.
Everyone was really friendly. We are fairly new to camping and everyone we met was really happy to share tips and show us their 'set up'.
We had awful weather for the first half and we didn't explore much. We found the toilets and showers - all facilities in fact - to be really clean and warm. There is nowhere to re-chill your ice packs or refill your gas - this didn't bother us at all but thought I'd mention it as apparently that's unusual and one of the other campers mentioned it. In case that's relevant to others.
Site for tents is flat but, of course, has some dips so pitch with care as we stupidly didn't and pitched with our sleeping area over a few small dips but they were very noticeable at night!
We didn't visit St Ives on foot - wish we had it looked lovely, but we did visit the Wimpole Estate which is great. Big house to visit on rainy days, quite large restaurant (didn't eat there, only had drinks), and lots of walking. Thoroughly recommend as a day out.
Although the public can walk through here (I think there is a public thoroughfare) we didn't feel unsafe at all.
Great recycling area. Lots of drinking water available.
Three showers in the ladies, three sink cubicles with curtains. I found there was lots of space. Very comfortable and the children loved it.

Lovely site, really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and we liked that you could choose your pitch yoursself.
The pitches were spacious and the site was clean, tidy and in a great quiet location, but equally its not far from the A14 and easy to find.
There is one toilet block for the whole site and whilst this was clean, it could do some ventilation as it always felt too hot and stuffy! But it was very clean.
The location is lovely - walks along the river/stream and some people were swimming in the small lake. The village has two pubs, a village store with plenty of essentials and more. Its right next to the village so no long walk to do either.
The children's playground in the village is a 5 minute walk and the local pubs were welcoming too.
Most of the pitches on uneven so if you are in a motorhome the chocks are a must! Tents were allocated the main flat area.
Really recommend this site and we will return.

Been going to Houghton Mill for last 10 years. When it left the CC circuit we were concerned that standards would drop and we went same time again this year hoping this would not be the case.
One word is enough - SCRUFFY.
It seemed to us they had just opened the gates this year without any maintenance or other improvements of any sort.
The grass is much longer, in fact the 5 days we were there we didn't get disturbed by a mower once. Previously the moment you vacated your pitch the warden was there to mow it. The ablutions are totally unaltered, One strip light in the gents is out thus 25% light reduction. The shower that I used required you to lean on the tap throughout otherwise it would go off in a couple of seconds.
I went into the gents yesterday (on a hot afternoon) and it stank of urine. I could not open the windows as a sort of security device had now been screwed into the frame. There was no disinfecting block in the urinals only some form of plastic device which to all intents and purpose was doing nothing. We were also less than impressed with the wash up area which could have done with a good floor clean! The food remains underfoot were a rodent attractor.
This site has always been very public with people wandering about on the site as there are no gates and a public footpath to the rear. There are also cars driven round with occupants obviously not resident interested in the campers. Previously CC wardens kept a close watch on such comings and goings but not any longer which means you will need to be very vigilant not to leave anything valuable in open sight and always lock up when leaving your outfit.
Finally there is supposed to be a one way road system but with no signs indicating this no one complied, this when added to total absence of any maximum speed restriction signage made for a somewhat boy racers paradise! Hope this is sorted before the children arrive later this summer.

Have just spent a great eight days at this super site.
We have visited before when the Caravan Club managed it and were wondering if much has changed since The National Trust took over the running of the site.
We thought standards were even higher.
The toilet block was immaculate at all times even during the bank holiday weekend when the site was full.
The wardens were very welcoming and friendly. They always had time to have a few words.
The pitches are all grass and very well looked after and unlike most grass sites we have visited the grass was cut when most of the campers had left after the weekend.
The village is a five minute walk with a small supermarket type shop for all you would need.
Must recommend the lovely beeer garden at The Three Jolly Butchers in the village.
Super sunny spot and the food is good too.
A half an hour countryside walk leads you to the small town of St Ives. Very pretty on the riverside.
A great site to visit with friendly wardens.
Thank you Nicola and Gary and the young warden who I'm afraid I don't know his name!
We will be back.
