Excellent facilities in a quiet area as one would expect when owned by the National Trust. The working mill is a must visit which includes a guided tour on how it all works. And of course a visit to the tea room is required to experience the home made scones using the flour milled next door!
Houghton is a 5 minute walk away but do queue opposite the bus shelter to go into Cambridge otherwise the driver my drive off before you can cross the road. Otherwise remain at bus shelter if one wants to visit Huntingdon.
The local pub nearby sells excellent beers and a pleasant evening was enjoyed there by us all! Tescos with petrol is nearby as is a very good garden centre called Huntingdon with discounts on Wednesdays.
I think the 2 wardens do a super job given their office and jobs without other help. Hopefully that will be overcome once the main holidays start. We will be back as we did not do Cambridge justice.

This is another clean Caravan club site with the usual standard of facilities that you expect from them (some pitches are very uneven).
The site is in a nice village with a Post Office/general store and 2 pubs. There is a tea room at the NT mill which is only a few paces from the site.
The site has lovely walks directly from it and is on a cycle route. However if you like a nice view from your pitch this isn't the site for you.
There is a strict no ball games policy on site which is expected, however if you pitch on pitches 2 to 6 you back onto the national trust car park which is grass and only separated from the site by a low one bar fence, leaving caravans vulnerable from locals who choose to play cricket there.
Wardens where very helpful and friendly.
Would visit again but hopefully pitch further into the site than pitch 5 and take our bikes next time.

We usually come here once a year and it it always up there on our favourites list.
It hasn't changed from when we used to visit the in laws before we camped/ got the van.
Shower block is always very clean and never seems to look tired.
Wardens are friendly and helpful.
We love this site as its so easy to launch our kayak from, and we have spent many an hour paddling around the river and its tributaries. Watching the wildlife and nosing at the big riverside houses and their massive gardens with private moorings!
If there is any negative for us it would be the lack of playground for kids. However there isnt really space for a playground. There never seems to be loads of kids on site but that has never bothered our two.
The wine merchants in St Ives is a must!
Theres a lovely cycle ride to St Ives and you can cycle back round the back way through the Hemmingfords villages, back through Hemmingford meadow. On the way you could stop at the Axe and Compass Pub for a lovely pub lunch.

One night stopover on a very wet weekend. Although its all grass pitches we found the grass firm enough even with 2 days prior or torrential rain. We arrived slightly before 1pm and parked up with 3 other units in the NT carpark (limited space there).
The site is very well kept, toilets and showers immaculate and no queues despite site being fairly full.
No MH waste empty point but we managed with our own waste pipe to the drains. All pitches had ehu.
The village is literally minutes along the lane. A couple of nice looking pubs, a very well stocked local supermarket / village store. £17 for 2 adults for 1 night
We will use again - top site

Only one night stay but would def go back as it is a great little site and ideal for breaking journey if heading south or to continent if travelling from up north.
Very friendly staff - not always the case on Caravan Club Sites and great location.
Great pub in village only short stroll which was recommended by the site wardens.
Site itself on banks of river and am told lots of walks into nearby towns.
Facilities very good although limited showers etc for numbers on site but this a minor moan

Just returned from our 3rd visit in 2 years and this is still our all time favourite site - in fact we just drove about 100 miles out of our way just to stay a night.
Set beside a restored watermill and surrounded by rivers and watermeadows, this may not be an ideal site for young children bearing in mind the proximity to so much fairly deep and fast flowing water.
The site is level and very quiet, loos / showers immaculate with only a little wait when site is full (which it usually is so book ahead) and the village which is just a couple of minutes walk away is charming with at least two lovely eating pubs.
Do take heed of the advice not to arrive before 1. 00 pm. to avoid getting jammed in a queue in a very narrow entrance lane.

Just returned from a weekend at Houghton. Lovely site; well maintained. Within the grounds of Houghton Mill, a water mill owned by The National Trust (encompassing the mill, book shop and cafe selling ice cream, cakes, teas etc)and on the banks of the River Ouse.
There is a shoreline, which children can access and is a good base for them to play at the water's edge and bring their nets. There is no park on site, but this was not missed.
Lots of lovely walks by the river and Houghton itself is a lovely village with a number of thatched cottages and an oldy worldy feel, only a couple of mins walk away. A couple of pubs within walking distance - The Three Horseshoes (closest) and another (which the name escapes me, but just up the Huntington Road).
There is a Tescos Extra Superstore only a 5-10 min drive from the site. The site itself is all grass and some pitches you will need levelling blocks. The wardens, Robert and Helen, who were covering for the regular wardens during our stay were lovely people. Very warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, which makes all the difference.
The site has a shower and toilet block and all the usual perks of a Caravan Club site. Only 3 showers though, which can mean a bit of a queue situation in the morning, given the 54 pitches! The site will also accept approx 8 tents.
No ball games are permitted on site and upon arrival you will see that there is not room for this, however there is an open grassed space literally just outside the site, which can be used for this purpose.
Will definitely be returning. As mentioned in other reviews, the entrance is tight, but we managed to get in and out okay with our 4x4 and twin axle without a problem.

A wonderful site in a wonderful location.Wardens are a very nice couple and very proactive they kept the site immaculate. Do not arrive before one o'clock the reasons for this are two fold one is the approach road is very narrow and two units going in opposite directions could cause a terrible traffic jam. The other reason is there are only two wardens and they deserve a lunch break.
The Great Ouse foot path runs close to the site and its a 40 min walk into St Ives which is a nice walk through woodland and along the river bank. The buy one get one free meal deal at Hartford Mill is good value for money, it was very busy when we visited but the service was very good as was the food.
You can also get a river boat trip from the pub. This pub is just within walking distance from the site and a lot cheaper than the village pubs. We had some nice walks during our stay and found the locals very friendly. Will be going back and next time I will take my canoe because there's some wonderful river routes out from the mill pond.

Really great site. Flat tent area about 10m from river. Grass well maintained. Can be a little windy. Staff friendly if lacking in social skills occasionally.
Site is one way gravel path/road. Kids love zooming round it and cycling to shower / loo block. Explain to kids about taking gravel corners at speed. Lots of cuts and bruises on first day.
Shower block very clean with option for you to clean floor after used shower. Very quiet early morning late night. Free hair dryer (with hot hot hot handle). Electric plug point in shower area, shaver points in basin areas (can't speak for gents). Code to get into shower block.
Clean and sensible washing up area. Good laundry facilities - although no where to buy cleaning stuff when son decided to 'step' into canal.
Dawn chorus really loud and share most meals with ducks etc. 20m away is perfect canal side water play space. Please tell your children that it is about 1.2m deep from the off! Went for a punt and a row along the canal from the boat hire round the corner (2 mins). £8 per hour really good value. Owner comes to hire boat when you give him a call! Lots of campers had their own boats and canoes with them (including dinghies).
Mobiles supposed to be poor reception but we had no problems. Houghton Mill grinds flour on Sundays which is lovely. Watching boats through locks is great. The variety of bird and insect life gave springwatch a real run for its money.
Visited the house where the Children Of Greene Knowe is set (by Lucy Boston). My son loved it, plus it was only a 15 min cycle ride away. Also enjoyed riding along the Thicket to St.Ives. A twittern runs from the back of the campsite straight to it.
Village shop pretty good with local fayre for barbecue and it sold decent set of football stickers (not too many doubles) which meant men folk v happy. Local pub ok but very pricey and not geared to non-gourmet children.
Kicking out time of 12 noon really helpful as our tent is massive. ALso very laid back about us staying an extra night because we loved it - but do check first! Quiet site at night. Dawn chorus starts about 2am!
National trust tea room open Sund-Weds only - they are really missing a trick. And yes, the much acclaimed scones are really gorgeous. Will visit again.

We loved this site. The wardens are friendly, the facilities excellent, the situation by the river and mill are superb, the village is very pretty and within a few minutes walk are a shop, pub and bus stop. As we like to leave the van on site when we holiday these were all much appreciated. There seem to be lots of walks in the area but as we stayed only 1 night, we couldn't take advantage of these. However, we will certainly be back for a longer stay. Highly recommended.
