Stayed for two nights at this site. We had previously stayed at another Lee Valley site - Dobbs Weir - which we liked so thought we would try another Lee Valley site. The Sewardstone site is not a particularly nice site. The area for tents is small and tucked away mostly under trees. Mostly geared up for Motorhomes and caravans - lots of hardstandings. On the plus side travel cards for London can be purchased on site and the bus to the tube comes into the campsite so makes travel into London easy and no need to use your car. Campsite not particularly well run; for example no toilet roll in a morning and bins overflowing.

This was one of the easiest sites I've had to find. We used it to have time in London. I don't use sat nav. I sort my own directions out before hand. I'm from up north so it was down m1 junction 6a, onto m25 leave at junction 26 and there you are easy. We pulled up onto the site via a barrier and was met by a very nice couple. They showed us where to set up and off we went.
The site is kept well and tidy. Nice play area for the kids, shower blocks were very clean and loads of hot water. The pitches are all level with 16amp hook ups. Tv signal is excellent. Loads of walks around the site around the lee valley area.
We bought a London day pas which was £8 for adults and free for under 11yr olds. This ticket allows you to go anywhere on the tube, bus or ferry boat. The bus (215) comes every 20 mins and picks you up at the camp site and takes you to the local tube station. Then its up to you where you go. We went everywhere from Buckingham palace to Trafalgar square. This site is a nice site if you want to go to London. I wouldn't use it as my 2 week holiday but still a nice site for a London weekend. Friday to Sunday cost £48 2 adults kids caravan awning and car. Then £8 for your London ticket.

Ny wife have been coming to this site for short breaks during the warmer months since 2007. We've made friends here and brought existing friends along with us. But I think June 2012 may be our last.
The main problem is that what was once a lovely, open site with loads of space for all kinds of units has been largely taken over by static caravans. What remains for tents is probably less than a quarter the site, and the best areas have been made available for the statics, touring caravans and campervans - ie hard pitches with full service. This is probably great if you have such a vehicle, less so if you have a tent.
The 'tent field' is OK, and not far from the remaining toilet block (the 2nd block was demolished to make parking space for the statics). But it is not the best area in the campsite and it will get *very* busy in high season. However it is close to the main toilet/shower block.
On the plus side the site is a great location to camp and also have access to London. The 215 bus comes right into the site entrance and takes you to Walthamstow, from where you can get the tube. The site shop is well stocked and during the week they get fresh bread delivered daily. There are the usual toilet/shower facilities which are kept clean but my wife noticed some jobs needed doing in the ladies. There is a laundrette on site or you can handwash clothes for free and air dry them outside.
In some ways there have been improvements, the toilet block has been modernised in a way which will keep the (formerly spectacular) spider population down. The site has generally been spruced up.
There is a small children's playground which is popular during the day when it is warm and you have access to Gunpowder Park and a forest walk from the site. They also have pods and cabins which look lovely. But again, they are placed where the tents used to be.
I am trying to imagine looking at this site with fresh eyes, without the knowledge of what it was five years ago. It's not that it is bad, but it is not what it was. Perhaps I'd recommend it more for caravans and motorhomes or for the cabins than tents. A crying shame for those of us with tents.

We stayed here for one night whilst backpacking along the River Lee. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming to us and our large dog. The toilets and showers were very clean and stocked with toilet roll. The small shop carried the essentials.
The tent fields are quite small so probably not best for huge tents but we tucked our 3 person Halo in to a corner and were very happy. The site was quiet despite being quite busy for the bank holiday. A peaceful little oasis of green hidden in London.

This is our local campsite and we have been there a few times - just went today to put up tent to check it out for the season. Thought I would leave a review as stayed there a few times last year with other 'locals' in school holidays! It is a small, friendly site with a play area, shop and nice heated toilet and shower block next to the tent field. Friends have hired the wooden pods and said they were comfy.
Children always have fun as site is small enough that you can keep an eye on them whilst they roam about.
Nice walks from site along the reservoir to the canal where you may be lucky to spot a boat by the lock.
Couple of good, family friend pubs near by.
Downside is the nearby helicopter and traffic noise but for a break with friends at start and end of the season we love it.
Am sure it will be packed come the olympics.

This is the second time we have stayed in one of family glamping cocoons. These are a bit like garden sheds with bunk beds, sofa, lights & kettle. These are under the trees with wood chips surrounding - quite shady and not ideal for lounging around; the wood chips get everywhere. This site is not for you if you want real tranquillity.
Campsite is quite busy. The first time we stayed other kids went to bed very very late and this time we had some problems with children throwing stones in the kids play area.
Not entirely the campsite's fault but the stones in the play area don't seem a great idea in the first place. Our young kids loved it. Drinking water tasted absolutely awful so pack some bottled water. Toilet block ok. Lots of warm water.
Toilet door was broken in ladies on first visit and still not fixed 2 months later. Loo paper ran out over night. Washing up sinks were in a disgusting state.
Bit of a mess up with our booking this time. But the managers are friendly, reasonable facilities & shop and the site is well placed for London and some lovely gentle walks and other local activities.
Given that it is still inside the M25 it is quite rural in feel.

Let's start with the positives: the location is really convenient for London and the site is very pretty- all the grass is mown, the grounds are litter-free and the planting makes for a very attractive site.
The shop is well appointed and the prices reasonable. The children's play area (I have a 4-year old)is small but great and the kids had a ball! The people who met us when we arrived where very friendly and helpful (although they could not find our booking despite us sending a deposit cheque- but it was all sorted out, fortunately).
The police helicopter place nearby was noisy at night, but if you are a deep sleeper you may be fine. The only real grip I had was the cleanliness of the toilets.
The showers were OK and if only the loos had been cleaner we would have had a completely positive review to leave.

We went to london for the weekend and needed a place to spend the night that could give the kids room to run around and stretch their legs. So when we searched for campsites in London we were delighted to find this site. There was a nice man at reception who gave us travel information for the train, tube, buses, etc. It takes an hour and there's a bus stop right outside.
The site has far too many rules than necessary and didn't make for a relaxed experience. We stayed in a cabin at £45 for the night. On arrival we were given security codes to access the shower and toilet blocks, a code for the security barrier (which is locked between 10pm and 8am) which gives access to the site.
Check in was at 3pm so we chose to arrive early and leave the car at the carpark. We arrived back at 8. 20pm, which was lucky cause reception closes at 8. 30pm and we had to get the key to the cabin. We were asked to pay £10 deposit for the key, and if you want to have a barbecue, there's a £5 deposit to pay.
It's safe to say we wont be returning to this site.

We stayed at this site as we wanted to enjoy the attractions of central London without the hectic travel arrangements and train journeys.
The site was pleasant, and the site managers were friendly and helpful. There is a small on-site shop selling essentials, they can order in fresh bread for your breakfast if you require.
The toilet and shower facilities were clean, modern, and well-lit. We found the camping fields to be very quiet, although the staff did tell me that they got very busy during high season. Site security was also good, with a barrier at the entrance and a high surrounding fence.
The journey into London was cheap and easy, the bus picks up at the campsite entrance and takes you to Walthamstow Central and it is then a 15 minute journey into London via the underground.
There is some lovely countryside surrounding the campsite and some good local attractions. We walked to Enfield and Gunpowder Park along the canal from the campsite in about 20 minutes. Waltham Abbey is a lovely small town 10 minutes drive away that offers further attractions and amenities.

The positives first : A great team of people that work there, very friendly, helpful and all of them willing to go that extra mile. An example of this was when we was there the office shuts at 8pm, but by 8.30 a member of staff was still there and was just stood outside the building. I asked if he had finished for the night and he said that two separate families were running late and were not expected to arrive at the site until 9.30pm at the earliest and he was going to stop behind and book them him. I thought that this was a great example of the way the staff work there. Because the site is protected by a electric barrier so any late arrivals would have to wait outside. We have visited numerous sites where late arrivals are told that they have to remain off site until the following morning.
More positives was the clean if limited numbers of showers etc, but we never had to wait that long.
What already has been mentioned is the regular bus service from the camp site and off peak you can be in central London in 40 min.
Only a couple of minor grumbles really and its more to do with the lay out of the site. If you have a campervan or caravan the pitches are excellent. However with a tent it appears to us that the two corners of the site where they could not locate any extra pitches for caravans, etc, that's where the tent pitches are. Although we had electric hook up, our tent is a large frame tent and we had to really squeeze it into a tight marked out pitch. There was not enough room for our car so everyday we had to move it to the nearby empty caravan pitches.
It looks that all the electric hook-ups are new this year or have been updated because the ground had not had time to settle down and there was lots of bare patches where cables had been laid.
So would we go again, yes we would, its a minor issue with space, but I feel that better use should be made of the land they have to accommodate tents
