Not quite sure how to review this site as we did enjoy it but it could have been so different!
On arrival we were asked if we had any chocks - we didn't. We were then told we could have the last hard standing next to the toilet block, normally reserved for disabled users. The pitch was fairly small and we asked if we could move the next day.
We were told this is quite normal, but we would have to move quick in the morning as anyone could beat us to it.
We duly moved to a bigger hard standing at 9 am next day, daughter still in her bed!
Having moved we had a good week.
Some of the hard standing pitches are in almost constant shade.
Some of the grass pitches are on a severe slope, one caravan was on at least 3 bricks, I would have a nightmare if it was me. The grass pitches are also very close to each other, and cramped.
The site is divided into two, the grass side and hard standing, two toilet blocks which were immaculate, and a freezing cold small paddling pool.
The wardens were great, the play area huge but way over to the side of the site.
Surrounding area lovely, very convenient location, River Dart Country Park was fantastic.
As mentioned, units arrived from 9 am onwards, we did as instructed and arrived after 12 noon, which left no choice of pitch, this seems unfair.
Wouldn't visit again, in case we had to take a grass pitch, and to be honest the site seems bland and soulless.

I will be totally honest in my review as several of us staying over the last bank holiday weekend were a bit disappointed to say the least!
First the positives, the site is in a great spot for touring around Totnes, Paignton, Torquay, Brixham and all the other general touristy spots. Whilst the last stretch of road to the site is tight, I managed to navigate it by myself with 3 children in the back (& it was only my second tow by myself). It is a bit tight and tests ones skills if on your own but it is only about 2 miles and not an overly busy road so don't worry about this element of your stay.
Upon arrival there are very impressive security gates and as always with the caravan club, you will be made to feel very welcome.
The general layout of the site appears quite normal when half empty and the grounds are kept impeccably tidy. Also the shower block & play area are fabulous. However you can't see the play area from any of the pitches as it sits off to one side so I didn't feel I could leave my three year olds to play by themselves.
So the downside, it is awfully awfully cramped when full. So much so that the van next to us was far closer than the fire regs and we could almost reach out and touch our neighbours awning! Everyone we spoke to felt the same and I know I wasn't the only one to complain. Apparently the caravan club have been pressured by members who have in the past been unable to book so have crammed on more pitches. It has really suffered as a result. If you are going during peak season or busy bank holiday weekends, just be prepared.
Additionally the site were allowing members to come on as and when they desire so there was no 12 noon arrival time which may suit many but it was awful. People were allowed on as early as 9am and as late as 9pm so the banging in of pegs went on very late as did the amount of cars and vans moving around. Making it feel fairly unsafe for young children to play freely as one would normally allow them to do.
Just one final point, in many spots this site will test your skills for manoeuvring your van as some of the pitches are between trees and whilst this is pretty, it makes for interesting reversing. Being a stubborn kind of lass I did manage it, again on my own prior to collecting my partner but some pitches are not for the faint hearted!
So to summarise many of the problems surrounded the fact it was an incredibly busy weekend and during quieter periods this site has all the makings of being great but it saddens me to say I definitely will not risk returning. I'm a great fan of the caravan club but this site has been compromised by the club trying to make too much money with cramming on too many pitches and as a result, despite it's enormous investment, it is possibly the worst site I've been to. Really sorry to the club for having to write such a review!

This was our first visit since the site has been upgraded and although it was a smashing site before the improvements, it is even better. Couldn't disagree with any previous positive comments. Due to the family friendliness of this site it may not appeal to those that are after a quiet site as we were awakened regularly at 8.00am by well behaved but noisy kids out on their bikes. The previously mentioned access problems on the narrow road will always be an issue, on our first arrival we waited 20 mins on the approach road as a twin axle arriving negotiated with the local bus exiting

Site wardens excellent could not do enough for us. Toilets were keep lovely and clean. The showers were brill and big too.
The site was kept in excellent condition with a lovely dog walking area and a separate play play and field for the kids.
The site itself was in my view split into two parts. One part was all hard standings and in my opinion looked a little to much like a car park. But. When all the new plants start to grow it will improve the look. These pitches were all of the usually good size and standard.
The other part was mainly grass and really pretty.BUT the roads around this part of the site were really tight and some of the pitches were not very big so putting up an awning would be very difficult. A lot of the pitches were sloping and in some areas the caravans were propped up with bricks. And if you ended up by the road the boy races on the lane will either keep you awake or wake you up.
There is plenty to do in the area but you have to travel to reach anything.

What a fantastic site - I cannot praise it enough. Having just had a £2million facelift it is now a 5*+ site and we cannot wait to go back.
On arrival you book in in the small reception/shop and then choose your own pitch. There are hardstanding and grass pitches all with EHU, some fully serviced with own water and waste. There are TV hook ups on the bollards too but that area has now gone digital so you will need either a digital TV or a digibox to receive any TV at all. The site is set out in 2 separate sections with 2 brand new toilet/shower blocks (1 on each section), each housing plenty of toilets and showers (we never had to queue all weekend and the site was full), a laundry and a washing up area (inside). There is also a small paddling pool for the kids and a large play area with climbing frames. The dog walk on site is excellent and dogs can be let off for a good run (poo bins are provided so PLEASE use them!).
The site shop sells the essentials and some camping gear but does not offer a daily newspaper service. There is also and information room next to the reception with great ideas of things to do in the local area.
There is a bus stop right outside the site exit that goes to Paignton (albeit around the houses - literally!). £2.25 per adult (return) and FREE for dogs!
Stoke Gabriel village is a short (1 mile approx) walk from the site. Beware of the small roads as there are no pavements for a majority of the walk. In the village, there's a general store (including newspapers), a post office, a tea room and 2 pubs. Further down, and sat right on the River Dart, there's another nice cafe/tea room.
Back on site the wildlife is wonderful. There are rabbits running around everywhere and an array of birds. I saw a green woodpecker on the Sunday and on the Saturday night we lay in bed listening to an owl. Wonderful!
All in all, in my opinion, this is one of the best Caravan Club sites now and I would not hesitate to highly recommend it.

What a great site!
It's set out like two separate parks - the lower one being hardstanding pitches, the upper one being mainly grassy terraces. Both have washrooms, laundry and indoor dishwashing facilities. We pitched on the grassy 'side', near the children's play area - which was large enough to keep our children (aged 6 & 8) busy; there is also a large open space for ball games and kite flying.
The pitches are a decent size: you are not on top of your neighbours! However as children (like water) find the path of least resistance to anywhere, with no footpaths to the toilet block, they all walked through the pitches on the terrace below us to get to the loo! (sorry if it was your 'garden' they went through!)
There is no analogue TV signal, but booster is available from the EHU columns - if your cable isn't long enough, you can buy an extension from reception. We took our satellite dish, but when it got really windy and we lost the signal, we plugged in the freeview box, with no problems.
It has the best washroom facilities I have ever come across; I had to queue for a shower the first day (DH never had to wait!), but it was worth the wait. Loads of room to move, several hooks for towels etc, and a bench as well - plus lovely hot water, at a decent pressure! There ia also a 'toddler' bathroom, with bath and removable shower head; which was great for ensuring our 6 y-o son was kept clean without any screaming!
The only thing we found odd was on arrival, being told to go and find a pitch, then come back and tell the wardens what number we'd chosen! It was Whitsun bank holiday weekend, and the site was heaving! Thankfully we found a pitch without too much trouble, but we saw several big twin-axles trying to manoeuvre into awkward spaces, because that was all that was left. Every other site we've ever been on has allocated us a pitch, and then either shown us on a map where to go, or taken us to it. So the 'find yourself a spot' system threw us slightly.
We've never used a CC site before, but we will definitely use this one again.

This is a first class Caravan Club site. As mentioned previously the road to the site is narrow and caution is required but as we were in our motorhome and the bus links from the site are so good we did not move our 'van during our stay!
The wardens are all very friendly and helpful and keep the site in tip top condition.
The facilities are the best we have ever come across, more like a hotel than a campsite and are always immaculate.
The bus stop outside the site entrance takes you either into Stoke Gabriel (which is also in easy walking distance) or to Paignton where you can catch buses trains or even a steam train to most places in the area. Many fellow campers said that going by bus was much easier than trying to park in Paignton or Torquay.
We walked to Stoke Gabriel and down to the river which was lovely and travelled on the steam train to Dartmouth during our stay.
We look forward to returning to this lovely site as there is so much to see and do in this area.

After navigating the rather narrow country lanes we were pleasantly surprised with our first impressions of the site. As you look down from the road onto the site you notice how neat and new it appears. We were greeted at the entrance to the park which has access only through security barriers and given a selection of pitches that we could choose. We went for a service pitch which had all the facilities that you would expect for the additional charge of £1 per night. The site has undergone a major re-fit and this show’s in the facilities, most pitches appear to be hard standing which is great although we did experience difficulties with putting up our awning and had to buy special pegs from the small shop / reception. It has a pristine toilet / shower block which was warm and clean along with a small games room, reception selling limited supplies, an enclosed dog walk, and children’s playing field with Play Park. There is also a paddling pool for the children although this looked as if it had been emptied for the winter. The staff were happy to help if a little abrupt sometimes. We tried to book in for August and were told that the site is fully booked for the first two weeks which is testimony to how good it is. We will definately visit this site again and would highly recommend it.

You approach this lovely site along a narrow country lane that could cause a few problems should you meet a large vehicle coming the other way. Apart from that I can't fault this site at all.
The toilet blocks are to the usual high caravan club standards. Basic groceries can be brought in the shop, but not newspapers. They also have dicount vouchers for some of the local attractions, we used the one's for Paignton Zoo (brilliant and a must see) and Kents Cavern (fascinating). There are some serviced pitches as well as hard standing and grass pitches, some do seem a bit small, but this looked to be the exception rather than the rule. There is a games room, that we didn't use, that has a few slot machines and also a toddlers paddling pool (closed, well it was March!). A fish and chip van visits on Saturdays, but check with reception first, if the site is quiet, they don't always come. They were a little bit pricey, but delicious.
Paignton is only a 5 minute drive away and is ideal if you want the traditional British sort of seaside holiday. Brixham a few miles up the road is a an old fashioned place with a typical working harbour. Torquay a few miles in the other direction is the larger of the 3 towns and has all the usual high street stores and amenities. Dartmouth is also well worth a visit, stunning scenery and lots of little shops that are worth popping into. Use the higher ferry and you'll find it's a bit cheaper than the lower ferry, although you get a better view from the lower ferry.

The caravan club have got it right with this site. We have four young kids ages 2-6 who enjoyed all the site had to offer. Play area including a football pitch and a place to fly your kites what a treat not have to go off site to play, there's also a small sheltered pool for them on hot days. Shower/toilet blocks new very clean and big. laundry and veg prep rooms. Work has taken place on leveling the grass pitches, most are hard standing. Site entrance wide and welcomes you. Only snags is the lane leading to the site and Stoke Gabriel drive slow as there are not many passing places. No faults on this site.
