Arrived to a luke warm welcome from the owner. Had tried to book but they don't answer the phone and so we turned up at 6. 30pm.
Found the site fairly empty and pitched the tents. Fairly quiet, level site with very old fashioned toilet block situated quite a way from the site.
Didn't like the fact that there were no sinks in the toilet block and had to open the door to the toilet block to go to another room to wash my hands.
Neither toilets, basins or bath particularly clean. Thought it expensive for the facilities and won't be going again.
Perhaps the owners could try to be a bit more welcoming?

If you are looking for a camp site with clearly marked out pitches, a slick tele-sales team, internet booking, live 'entertainment', and brand new toilet blocks then this is not the site for you.
But if you are looking for a well-drained, sheltered site within walking distance of one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall, one which is surrounded by fields but is within easy walking distance of a town with many good shops, then I doubt you will find another site in the whole of Cornwall which is as well suited as this one.
It got a bit busy during the bank holiday weekend, but even at the most busy period the facilities never seemed crowded. We never had to wait for a shower, and there were two baths available, with piping hot water.
During our stay we experienced a period of 24 hours of solid rain, but we had not even a puddle outside our tents. This contrasts with a time when we stayed on another camp site in Cornwall and woke up in five inches of water after a similar period of rain.
There were also times when the wind was very strong on the beach, but at the camp site it only felt like a slight breeze, due to the excellent position of the site, nestled in a valley. Again, this contrasts with many coastal camp sites in Cornwall which are perched on top of cliffs and are very exposed.
The site was a little noisy for a couple of days during the August bank holiday weekend, but on the whole it was very quiet and pleasant, and the 11 O'clock curfew was well observed.
It is a family run site, with the owner on site, and different family members and friends helping to run it. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
There is a well stocked and reasonably priced shop on site, and it is within easy walking distance of good shops in Perranporth.
Yes, the facilities are a little dated. Yes, you do need to part with 20p to use the shower (unless you find the bath with a broken meter!), yes there are a few leaves in the pool, and the pool is on the cool side, but as far as we were concerned this slight disadvantages were many times made up for by the advantages of the camp site. We will be back next year if we possibly can.
To book you have to use the old fashioned method of the Royal Mail. You phone up and ask for a brochure, and then you fill out a form and post it back. We found this worked very well.

Lovely site so close to the beach and village. I read previous reviews and was a bit dubious, yes the showers were cold and the toilet blocks in need of updating but this site is very reasonable in price and to moan about paying 20p for a shower, you could go up the road to perran sands and pay 3 times the price and be further out of the village. Does it really matter that the toilets had old black toilet seats woopie doo, they were spotlessly clean so the colour of the toilet seat did not really bother me!. The majority of the pitches were really flat and you could pitch as and where you chose to as they do not have numbered pitches. The club was like
A typical old fashioned pub and you were made very welcome by all the staff. Will definitely be returning in the future.

We have stayed at this site before, 2 years ago and returned due to its proximity to Perranporth.
We pitched the van on a terrace above the toilet area. We were only joined by 2 other vehicles so was plenty of room.
The facilities are rather dated but we found them clean. The ladies showers can be a bit temperamental but no4 served me well!
It is a quick walk into town either via road or a path that runs through the football club at the end of the road.
Whilst we were in Perranporth there was a triathalon going on which was interesting to watch.Felt exhausted just watching the competitors!
The site was £15.Again you are paying for the location more than anything. Showers 20p.

We found booking very easy and straight forward.
This was the first time we had ever been camping and did not no what to expect.
The toilets were clean and the showers were ok too. There was a 20p charge but didn't mind paying as they were clean and warm. Must add tho that they do need updating. The pool was lovely and clean but the only let down was it was not heated like stated in fact it was freezing, but that did not stop the kids from going in.
Overall we found the campsite really good, friendly, clean but just a little updating needed and a warm pool please.
We are going to book to go again next year but for 2 weeks this time.

Well it seems each review for this site alternates between a good one and a not so good one. So here is 2009's good one. Ish.
Everything noted in Mawalkers review is kind of true but I feel as if additions need to be made.
For instance there is a bathroom which for 20p will give you a bath FULL of boiling hot water, tell me another site you can get that?
Next to that there is the washing room, which may not be the most up to date but almost everything worked and you even get the use of a iron and board.
Whilst I agree the set up in the loos etc of everything being in different rooms is not ideal I can testify to seeing cleaners in there every moring that we were there and they were spotless the whole time.
We had booked over the phone, paying only our deposit, something they were happy for us to do. We do this because my wife is disabled and often come the time of our hols we simply just can not go, and so loose out on £500+ when this happens. This is one of only a hand full of sites that will accomodate us nationwide, BRAVO to them!
When we arrived it was obvious that the EH pitch they wanted us take just wasn't big enough for our tent. (I had told the lady how big it was when we booked). We went looking for another one, got hold of the man in charge, and he agreed to put us on there, even though there we other EH pitches free much further away from the toilets etc. I can again only say this was very much appreciated.
Ohhh Swimming pool. The tiny small pool for babies was being renovated whilst we were there, and yes it was a mess. But the large one for the bigger kids. Cold but spotless and I have pics to prove it. Our kids lived in the thing!
Overall if you are looking for a mod cons, perfect camp site then go look somewhere in Newquay at the ones that cost twice this much and really do stack em and pack when it comes to space. We had lots of space and we will 100% be going back there.

I'm submitting this a bit late but we think this is such a great campsite it can't go without a review. We've been every year for the last four years and absolutely love it.
There's room for tents, caravans, motorhomes, campervans and a few static caravans in their own little field. If you don't need hook-up you don't have to book. Reception is usually shut by the time we arrive early evening but this isn't a problem cos the owner comes round every morning to make sure everyone has paid up to date.
This makes extending the stay if you want to easy. The whole set-up is really laid back. You can choose your own pitch - providing you don't need hook-up - and we have even moved pitch from one field to another (because we were sloping a little).
The site really is all welcoming - by that I mean families, single sex groups of young people, older people, surfers, pets - everybody. What is so good about it is that everybody respects everybody else and the campsite is always quiet after 11pm when the on-site bar closes.
Even if you choose not to go to the bar the site is quiet in the evenings and we never had trouble getting an early night if we needed to. We felt very safe allowing our 5 kids (aged 4 - 12) to go off on their own to the play park where they met up with loads of other kids and made lots of friends. Many of their friends we have met up with year after year.
The swimming pool is well enclosed and safe and has it's own changing rooms - but it's sun heated(!)even so the kids loved it. The kids were allowed in the bar area with us and there is a separate pool room and tv lounge where they can go and adults can still see them. No camp fires allowed but we were permitted to burn a log and our kids were joined by many other children toasting marshmallows, which was lovely.
The owner is a 'propur' down-to-earth Cornishman, helpful and friendly and he even taught us a few local words. The camp shop isn't open all hours but it is well stocked, reasonable and sells gas.
People on this forum have said the site is basic and needs a re-furb - maybe it does - but we have always found it adequate for our needs, clean, welcoming and relaxing. It has showers, two baths (ideal for younger kids) two toilet blocks, plenty of washing-up facilities, and a laundry complete with ironing board.
Perranporth and the surrounding area is beautiful, there's loads to do locally even in the rain and it has some of the best surfing in the UK on RNLI lifeguard patrolled beaches. Dogs are allowed on Perranporth Beach all year round.

We visited this site as it was the closest to the town and beach area, not really much else going for it unfortunately. The prices are not the cheapest around especially when you add on cost of showers. We quickly realised that the hook ups are not fantastic when we couldn't use our electric kettle (6amps only!). The showers were clean enough and warm enough but not very powerful. Gave the swimming pool a wide berth as it looked grubby and was topped up by rain water. Bar and TV area were nice and welcoming, pity was only open in evenings especially if weather wet.

We tried to book as we knew it was the nearest campsite a short walk from the town of perranporth. Could never get through and couldnt leave a message as the message box was full (they obviously never respond to anyone), in the end gave up trying and took the risk that we would turn up and try to get a pitch. When we got there they did have space and we were told to pitch anywhere in the first field on the right as the rest of the campsite was reserved! The field with the reserved pitches was twice the size of the standard one, how did these people reserve an pitch?
There wasnt much space to choose where to set up our tent and everyone seemed to be cramped in and living on top of one another. The pitches we mostly sloping on this campsite too.
The facilities on the campsite are very prehistoric. The toilets were like the outside loos you used to see with the black seats on. Gross. Could really do with updating. Everything is in different rooms too. So when youve been to the toilet, you need to go somewhere else to wash your hands, likewise with the showers.
Moving onto the showers, where do these campsites get off charging 20p for a shower? 3 times I had to go to the shop to get some change. I was paying over £20.00 per night, what am I paying for?. The showers were freezing cold and by the time it warmed up your time was out. Also you dont feel clean after having a shower as they are dirty. There was someones shampoo on the tiles the first day I had a shower, it was still there 4 days later along with all the hairs that were still glued to the walls too.
The site advertises an outdoor heated pool. Which we thought was great. We headed up to use it and turned around as soon as we seen it. It is not looked after and the water was brown. All the paint was flaking off all over it
I found it interesting to see the campsite had 3 stars through the caravan club, when was the last time they visited?

Again I'm compelled to reply to another review. Sorry!
Booking is simple, and very basic. Ring them up, leave a message with your Address in it, they will post you a leaflet with the pricing for the year. Use the booking form! Then your pitch will be reserved. There really is no other way at this site.
Been back to this site again and again, Still love the site!
