We have been returning to the site for the last 3yrs. The staff are fantastic and very friendly. The children can play and be safe.
The toilet block is very clean, the shops are within walking distance and we are returning again this year.
The beach is within walking distance. There is a chinese takeaway that will deliver to the site.
You can walk to Pleasure Wood Hills and Tescos. There is also a golf course just across the road.

We would highly recommend Azure Seas Campsite in Corton which we found by searching on UKCampsite.co.uk The site is set in a long, narrow strip of land between the coast road and the coast in the small village of Corton, just north of Lowestoft.
The site is mainly given over to statics but at its southern end is a good sized area of woodland which is reserved for camping and touring ‘vans. Although the woodland is quite dense and makes much of the area rather dark and shady it is possible to pitch right on the edge of the low cliffs. These unusual cliff top woods mean that it is possible to have super sea views but with the woodland giving shelter from the winds.
We had chosen Azure Seas because of its promised sea view pitches and we were well rewarded in that respect. We had a choice of cliff top pitches and chose the one with the best view from the ‘van front window.

When we visited during the October Half Term the touring site was virtually empty. In addition to us there were only 3 motor homes and another ‘van. We were able to pitch within 5 metres of the cliff edge which meant that we fell asleep to the sound of the sea crashing on the beach and were woken by the sun rising over the sea in the morning. On our first morning we managed a picnic breakfast on a rug in front of the ‘van.
There are EHU points scattered around the woods although we needed to use the full length of our lead to reach the ‘van. There are, also, several water points and commercial type rubbish bins in this touring area.

TV reception was rather variable. At first we got a wide range of digital stations using our Sony freeview box, status 350 direction aerial and portable TV. Then we moved only 2-3 metres nearer to the cliff top both to improve the sea view and avoid the acorns that had been falling from an overhanging oak tree onto the ‘van roof! This must have put a tree between us and the transmitter as we could no longer get any digital pictures and just 4 non-digital stations.

A big downside of the touring area is its distance from the toilet block which is located in the static area. The car odometer recorded 0.2 of a mile from our pitch to the toilets. Not a problem for us with our own loo but a bit far if one was tenting, especially at night although the roadway was lit. I even resorted to driving up to the toilet block to empty our loo tank – a first for me.
The toilet block was clean and well-maintained but, of course, had little use during our stay as the touring area was nearly empty. It had 6 basins, 5 urinals, 5 WCs and 5, free hot, showers in the gents. There was, also, a laundry room with sinks, 2 top-loader washers and a tumble dryer. There are separate keys for the gents and ladies toilets which one is given at the office on arrival.

There is a large pub serving food right next to the campsite gates but we did not use it so we cannot comment. There is, also, a Chinese take-away and another pub in the village but again untried by us. There is a large Tesco Superstore about 5 minutes drive away towards Lowestoft and it has a separate petrol station which, also, sells basic groceries.

The beach below the site is a mixture of sand and gravel and can be accessed by a gently sloping path from the far end of the touring area. The route to this path is through the woods which had grey squirrels, rabbits and lots of birds. It seems the beach is used by naturists but none braved the October weather whilst we were there. There were quite a few fishermen – a number of whom stayed all night. We had a very pleasant walk on the beach and along a seawall footpath although the latter is not practical at high tide as the waves wash over it.

The charges for the site were £13.00 for our caravan, 2 adults and dog plus EHU. I’m not sure what the EHU ampage was but we only managed to trip it once when we put on the heating, hot water heater and kettle by mistake – the EHU points were sensible ones with the contact breaker switches freely accessible so I reset our point myself.

I cannot really comment much on the site staff. When we phoned ahead to say that we had been delayed by a car breakdown the man on the phone said that there would be no one in the office after 6.00pm but gave us our pitch number and told us how to get to it. When we went to pay the next morning the office was closed. We found it open and paid later that day and the man who booked us in was friendly and very helpful.

Lowestoft, approx 2 miles south has a wide range of shops, restaurants, etc. Great Yarmouth is 9 miles north and in addition to an even wider range of shops has a long, brash promenade with fun, fair, pier, sea world, etc. Not really our “cup of tea” and the traffic around Yarmouth was awful on the day we visited. We, also, drove south to the picturesque town of Southwold and spent a pleasant afternoon on its renovated pier and looking around its quaint lighthouse and shops.

We would be very happy to visit Azure Seas again if it was a bit nearer to us but we live on the other side of England nearly 300 miles away. We only visited the site for a few days break because we were already visiting Cambridge to help my seriously ill sister-in-law

Very sheltered site on the top of the cliffs overlooking the sea. Visited for 2 nights for the Air Festival. Site was clean. Toilet block not so clean, needed a good pressure wash. Toilet block was also a long way from tent area. Quite noisy in the early morning with children shouting and riding bikes all over the place, so close to our tent that one fell over into our tent

An update since my visit of June 2008.

The toilet block at the Azure Seas has not got any nearer; but the Corton Inn, right next door, has reopened. It is a large, extremely well appointed & comfortable pub. No real ales on during our visit, so it had little to offer me. We did not eat there but the restaurant looked good value.

My pick of eating & drinking places in & around Lowestoft:

Triangle Tavern, 29 St Peters St. Lowestoft NR32 1QA: Home of Green Jack Brewery multi award winning beers. A real old fashioned pub. Not to be missed under any circumstances. Try to go for the (free) music on Thu & Fri nights

Norman Warrior, Fir Lane, Lowestoft, NR32 2RB: CAMRA Regional Pub of the Year. Real ales plus a superb value restaurant. A 5* eats & drinks pub.

Oulton Road Chippy, Fir Lane, Lowestoft: In a small parade of shops next to the Norman Warrior. The best fish & chips in town.

Lighthouse Café, 383 Whapload Road, Lowestoft, NR32 1UL: Absolutely great café for a traditional British breakfast type fayre. Avoid the ‘Big Breakfast’, you won’t be tough enough!

Woodbine Café, 18 Suffolk Rd. NR32 1DZ: Right in the town centre. A great workman’s café serving real solid food.

A little further afield:

The Locks Inn, Station Road, Geldeston: This is the best country pub in the world. Fabulous rural/riverside location, food (Friday curry night from 6pm is the best, but be sure to get there early), music and real ales. Be prepared to drive down a very long & rough track. Be careful because when I fed the postcode into my GPS it took me close, but the other side of the river! Best go to Geldeston village and ask from there. (Or get phone number & details of music & events from website: www.Geldestonlocks.Co.Uk)

Browston Hall, Browston Green, Browston, NR31 9DW: Another excellent pub/restaurant for a nice sunny day. . Carvery is particularly good value at lunchtimes. Also has par 3 golf, indoor & outdoor bowls.

Swan Inn, Barnby, NR34 7QX: An excellent fish restaurant. Depends what you have of course but expect it to cost £15-£25 each. It is very popular, so be sure to phone & reserve a table.

I’ve saved Azure Seas’ little secret to the end, so don’t miss it.

The site is a long, rectangular area approximately 60m wide by 600m long, set between the Lowestoft to Hopton coast road and the sea.

Approximately three quarters of the site has been given over to statics. The tent / tourers area is farthest from the entrance. The area is heavily wooded, which means that it is impossible to avoid pitching under trees. Inevitably, bits will be falling out of the trees, especially during periods of wet & unsettled weather -as we experienced!

The toilet block is spacious, and adequate in every way. There is always hot water and free showers. Incorporated is a washing up area, again free hot water, plus two reasonably priced washing machines. However, the toilet block would benefit from some t.l.c. to bring it up to what is expected from a commercial site in the 21st century. As has previously been posted, the toilet block is a looong walk from the pitches, so own sanitation might be useful.

The site virtually overlooks the informal beach area used by local naturists. You can walk south along the coast towards Lowestoft; there you will find Lowestoft’s undeveloped North Beach with a very nice café in the adjacent Sparrows Nest Park. Walk north and you will eventually come to Gorleston-on-Sea which has an excellent sandy beach, and again, is not too commercialized. In either case, there is a bus (albeit not too frequent) to bring you right back to the site.

A 24 hour Tescos is close by on the main A12. The site is also very close to Pleasurewood Hills if that’s your bag. If you are into real ale, don’t miss out on Green Jack Ales brewed out the back of the Triangle Tavern, which is situated on the Triangle Market in Lowestoft.

Now for the little secret. Call ahead and request a cliff edge pitch (not really a cliff, more of a very steep slope). In the evening, open your windows and you will be lulled to sleep by the gentle sound of the waves on the beach some 50 feet below you. In the morning, you will be woken by the first rays of the sun coming up over the eastern horizon and the birdsong from the woods. Then, you can enjoy your breakfast to the sound of the waves and the birds. Priceless….!

We stayed at this site over the Easter week in a tourer. We were the only ones there as most people cancelled as bad weather warnings. And yes we had snow. But we still had a great week. The new people there were brilliant and looked after us. They drove round ever morning and night to check we were ok. Shower block was very clean even with all the snow we had. There is no shop, but Tesco is only 2 mins down the road. The fence on the cliff top could do with a little work, but all in all the site was great. We will be going back 2 or 3 times this year.

Have stayed at this site many times when visiting Lowestoft. No-nonsense, basic & reasonable value for money. Very friendly welcome from staff. Yes, I suppose as others have stated, the toilet block is rather a long way from the tourer section but its do'able. Haven't always found the showers/washroom that well serviced and make sure you bring a loo roll - but I guess it depends what time / week you visit. Unfortunately, like any site, they are sometimes at the mercy of less than hygienic campers.

I echo previous comments on the woodland - it is rather too dense, making it dim & cool unless you get a pitch near the cliff edge - great seascape if you do.
Shame about the lack of local shops, but this isn't an issue for the hardier campers. As for the nudist beach - one would need to make a precarious adventure to the cliff edge, and probably use binoculars (or have a vivid imagination) to see sunbathers in any detail. Its interesting the site owners don't advertise its proximity to the nude beach but I suppose there's still some prejudice & prudery about this perfectly sociable & legal pastime.

Overall, this is a good basic site for the prices, within easy driving of Lowestoft & Gt Yarmouth & perfect for the annual Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival.

E warned I waffle) Just returned from a great few nights at Azure Seas camp site, Corton. Looked like an average static site as we entered, we were greeted by a lovely lady who after paying a deposit for the washroom keys, drove us along the static’s past the shower / toilet block and on through to the touring area.
We had booked a couple of adjacent pitches but she suggested we took up two that were right on the sea front. (Yup a full 6ft closer to the fence and the wonderful view. Furthest away from the view would be about 100ft at most) After clearing our pitches of pine cones, hazards of being in such a pretty site, we pitched up and put the kettle on! Kids found loads of trees to climb and although kite flying and footie were off the game plan they soon made do with their toys and new found play areas.
The site path was lit at night so the 300 paces to the loo block was quite manageable. After looking all along the cliff edge for a pathway down we discovered that by walking past the touring pitches there was a gentle track down to a lovely quiet beach. Mainly stony but a few sandy patches.
We woke to the sun glaring up off the sea, it was fantastic, as we got the breakfasts ready the kids were found to be giggling at the cliff edge fence, they had discovered the nudist beach a few coves up the cliff. (It was sunny but chilly, so the novelty of that soon wore off).
We popped off to nearby Lowestoft beach for one day (free parking at the Salvation Army car park!) and spent the day in Pleasurewood hills (half a mile away! Cheap entry with Tesco vouchers). In the evenings we trundled back down to the beach path and threw stones into the waves and had a great time with the kids. As we left the kids remarked how it was the first ever camp where we didn’t use our wellies! (Bonus!)
Pros : 300 paces to a nice little loo / shower block (remember the key! And a loo roll just in case) The coin operated washer and dryer were fine. The Hosts were lovely, (info and flyers etc were available about local activities etc.) Local shop just up the lane (or Huge tesco 5 min drive away). Pretty site. Lovely shade for a hot sunny day (Not that we got to test that theory this time!)
Cons : 300 paces to loo is a long way when the child has left it a little toooooo late. Easy to put your pegs in, but would the sandy soil hold in a gale force storm??? Our only gripe of our stay, we returned from a day out to find someone had pitched on part of our plot, they had to walk through / under our guy ropes to enter their tent (???)  This was between our tent and the fence, yup it was a tiny tent but quite unbelievable when you saw the rest of the site! I guess you get them in every site, but we had the last laugh as they had parked their car so tightly into the trees it was a nightmare to reverse out (mean snigger- sorry!)
Conclusion : Great site in a lovely part of the country, we will be back again someday. Thank you! (Sorry I did warn you I waffle)

Probably one of the worst sites I have ever been on first I must mention the toilets & showers disgusting, filthy need updating there was even no toilet paper in them. The site itself is stuck right in the woods making it very dark & cold also the pitches are on mud, there is no shop on site but there is a tesco down the road 5 mins car ride away. In summary this site is poorly managed & is in need of some attention

Having read the other reviews I feel compelled to point out that there has been a change of ownership from the start of 2006. Being keen naturists my wife and I have been using this site several times a year since 1999, and we feel that the current owners are not really interested in tents and tourers. We will still visit a couple of times this year, but we think the site has lost the magic that it used to have.
