We were lucky enough to be invited to try out this brand new site before it opens to the public a week later.
A warm welcome from the wardens and following check in, one of the wardens escorted us to our allocated pitch, a grass with electric pitch. Hardstanding pitches are available with electric or water with electric. There are also grass pitches without electric.
I have to say we had to be self-sufficient as covid restrictions meant facilities could not open until the following Monday.
The facilities are plentiful with plenty of shower cubicles, wash basin cubicles and of course toilets plus urinals for the gents.
Dish washing room has 8 sinks, laundry room has 2 machines plus 6 hand washing sinks. There is a back-packers room with lockers. There's a dog wash and chemical disposal room. There are a further two chemical disposal points around the site together with fresh water and grey water points and rubbish disposal. There is also a bicycle repair point consisting of cycle stand complete with tools (attached by wires) and a large hand tyre pump. Also a well appointed motorhome service point with drive-over drain.
A fabulous adventure playground is provided for the younger members.
Next to the campsite is the Sherwood Pines country park with its marked circular walks of 1 mile and 3 miles, cycle tracks including a family trail. You can also hire bikes and segways, go on the Go-Ape adventure with high-wires and platforms up in the trees. A cafe with indoor and outdoor areas and takeaway completes the picture.
Thousands of trees/shrubs have been planted to provide some breaks in the camp areas but will take a few years to establish.
Due to power lines crossing the site from top to bottom, kite flying and drones are not permitted.
