We arrived just after 8.00pm. As it was dark, we went past the entrance and came to a dead end which was too tight to turn the caravan (fairly new to touring) so we unhooked it, turned it and then hooked it back up again. We could have turned it using the car, but it would have taken longer! Site could therefore do with a better sign to avoid this, however we did not find access in or out of the site difficult. Caravan access may be difficult if football (amateaur) is on as traffic parks on the lane, even though a sign asks traffic to park further up. Just scratch the cars, theyll learn!
The toilets were cold & dated but very clean and freshly painted! We did not use the showers which were separate to the toilet blocks.
You can hear the traffic from the bypass, but did not bother us that much. Nice to hear a woodpecker (at least that's what I think it was, I aint no ornithologist)
Site is close to Delemere forest so ideal for walkers and mountain bikers. We enjoyed a nice walk.
Basic Facilities, (230v Hook up, Toilets, showers & disposal points) Friendly warden, will use again.
Also close to Harringtons Caravans (discover), Llandegla Forest (40mins), Chester, The Oak (we have eaten there in the past, lovely) Co-op convenience store within a mile with cash point & post office, there also looks like a good children's play park in the village. As well as another restaurant.
Close to main route so not lots of small roads (Just Dog Lane / Frodsham Rd which is 500yrds long)
TIP: when leaving site towards M6 Turn left at the Oak and follow round to access the main road towards Manchester, if you turn Right at the Oak you can no longer turn right onto Main Route and will have to turn at layby 2-3 miles down.

We visited this site from 5th to 11th October, 2008. It is a pleasant site in a good position for visiting the attractions around Chester. The toilets were spotless. The showers would benefit from a duck board to stand on whilst getting dressed, also, a mop and bucket would be a bonus. The showers weren't heated so I was pleased the weather was unseasonably warm. I think it could be rather chilly in winter.
If you want a good meal in lovely surroundings, visit The Oak at the entrance to Dog Lane in Kelsall. (They have lighter bites for the smaller appetite - still good sized portions and beautifuly cooked) It is only a few minutes walk from the site. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious.
The nearby Shire Horse Centre is a good day out with a nice cafe. They have the gorgeous Shire Horses plus otters, polecats, birds of prey, a fox, pigs with piglets, hens, sheep, and red deer. Another good day out is Port Sunlight Village at Ellesmere Port. We combined it with a trip across the Mersey to Liverpool and back. The Anderton Boat Lift is an interesting piece of Victorian Engineering. Go morning or early afternnon if you want the river ride as it closes early at this time of year.

Stayed here for a weekend and not very impressed!
Lane approach with narrow gate entrance on a bend.(it is apparently common for units to get stuck especially on departure)
Warden friendly but very disorganised. Arrived in the evening but had to wait for our pitch to be vacated.
Untidy site.
Toilet block clean but very dated. Childrens play area also old.

Just returned from 2 nights at this site. Nice friendly site and wardens very pleasant and helpful when we had problems with our hook-up. Sad to say though I would not return as the site was extremely slopey. The children (3 and 5) enjoyed playing at the small play area. 50p for a 5 minute shower.
Toilets clean enough. Dishwashing facilities ok. Very noisy site. We could hear a nearby club until 2am, and the traffic on the nearby road was loud until 4am then started again at about 5am. (so yes I got 1 hour sleep) Two pubs and Co-op in walking distance. The Morris Dancer recommended.

After rushing around all day on the saturday, collecting our caravan and kitting it out with the essentials we didn't have my other half decided that we were going to do a test run that evening. MEN!
We arrived at the campsite at about 8pm and were told how lucky we were as someone had just pulled of a pitch. (thank god had visions of us travelling around all night).
The campsite is of an average size with a mixture of tents, tourers and sited vans.
The wardens were very nice and helpful and the pitches for the caravans are really spacious with 240 hook up within easy reach (no long cable trailing for me to trip up on!)
As we were only staying for one night and have most things that we need in the van we didn't use the shower or toilets but if they are like the rest of the site they would be spotless.
We just have to say a thank you for the help and advice from the other caravanners (really friendly bunch) that we were given when we couldn't get our water heater to work properly.
Overall a good site within walking distance of the village with a shop and a pub.
We will definitely stay here again when we need an escape.

We stayed here for a weekend as part of a family get together. The site was generally fine, fairly decent pitches for the tents and we were made very welcome. The shower was clean, and the toilet block cleaned thoroughly everyday. The only down sides were blocked toilets and the closeness to the dual carriage way. But fine for a short stay.

We chose this site because it is close to Delamere Forest as we were going to a concert there on the Saturday night. There was also a concert on the Friday night so there were a lot of 'festival' campers both nights. This did seem to entice a few 'undesirables' because when we spoke to the owners on leaving, they said that there had been a few things stolen over the weekend (luckily not from us!) and one guy who had an argument with his wife, drove his motorhome off the campsite at 3 o'clock in the morning, totally p****d, smashing into a tree and the site entrance on the way!
This aside the site was "OK". The two shower rooms were separate from the toilet blocks and although quite large, and the water warm, they could have done with a bit of a clean. The mop provided looked liked it had been there since last summer....needless to say, we didn't use it! The men's toilets were quite clean but my OH reliably informed me that the 'ladies' was not so clean, with the waste bin permanently full and paper towels and tissues strewn around the floor.
There's no shop on site but there is a Co-op late shop about ten minutes walk away... or 2 minutes drive if your feeling lazy!
The owners were very friendly and helpful even lending us an extension lead as the pitch he had given us was too far from the EHU for our cable. They also tried to organise lifts for people going to the concerts who didn't want to drive. The guy in the tent next to us made a pretty penny ferrying people to the forest!
All in all this site 'served it's purpose' but we don't think we will be returning....Unless we're going to another concert in the forest!

June2004 Well looked after site with basic amenities and friendly wardens. However, very busy by-pass runs behind campsite with noise throughout the night.
