We stayed in one of the two Pods in July 11
We had paid a deposit to secure booking by phone and paid balance on arrival. We were then asked to leave a £20 security payment by cash or credit card details in case of any damage or mess left to the pod!
Although the showers were free we were asked to pay refundable £1 for a token to operate shower, which is on a timer! We were shown to the pod which was in the 'storage area' of the site, a short walk from the shower/ toilet block, however during the night seemed a lot longer!
When we opened the pod we found it hadn't been cleaned since being vacated by the previous occupiers. Wondered how they got their £20 back! We advised reception who did offer to clean it out but as it was raining, we'd had a long journey and wanted to get some food we said we didn't want to wait for someone to do that.
A couple of things which seemed to cause more hassle were, the toilet light is on a timer so be aware when its dark! To use hot water to wash dishes you need to put 20p in a meter, again timed! I only found this out after walking to facilities with dishes in the rain and took no money!
We were given £5 refund for the hassle and our £20 back upon leaving.
Having stayed in a pod before this one was better equipped by having a light and a heater, however felt the site it self had a lot of hidden costs and was not user friendly.

This is a really pleasant site that we try to get to at least once a year.
There is always a friendly and helpful greeting at the site. I'd managed to muck up our booking but had no difficulty sorting it out (a change from some sites I've visited previously!).
Lots of regulars on the site, which I think demonstrates its popularity. The facilities are good and clean - showers were free in the old (but recently renovated) toilet block. And as ever everything was kept very clean and tidy.
Don't think this is particularly a site for children as there's not a lot for them to do on-site (although there is an extensive play area in the village). For grown ups there's peace and tranquillity or all that York and surrounding district can offer (including retail therapy).
Highlight for me again was taking time to visit Fred in the cricket club. There's a really friendly welcome there for people from the site and their (well behaved) dogs. And to top it all the Seconds managed to win their match while we were there.

Booked here as a chance. Never visited a CL site before, have rallied so wasn't really sure what to expect. Travelled peak time on a Friday and coming through Clifton Moor traffic was VERY busy but we had little chance of avoiding.
Arrived on site and were warmly greeted. Paid £10 per night inc electric and the extra £1 per night for use of the showers. The site has room for 5 units and you could see the cricket ground (there was a game on the Saturday afternoon)
We had a wander to the main site which seems to be mainly seasonal caravans and has two 'pods' for hire at £28 per night, these seem to be a wooden tent!
There are two blocks 'The Dales' and 'Abbey' the Dales block need you to use the tokens which is what we paid the £1 for, these are returned after your allotted shower time so you can put them back and have another go.
We found them beautifully clean a and very spacious. There was also a pot washing area at the side of these but was charged at 20p. Not out of the way but out of pure laziness I used our own sink.
Our cl area was tucked right away at one side, very close to the entrance but as this is protected by a large security gate, the children could play and we could rest knowing they couldn't escape. There were cows and chickens roaming free but couldn't wander onto the pitch areas as they are prevented by two cattle grids and we particularly enjoyed watching the two horses who were in the field next to us.
We ventured out to Hawes for the cheese factory but that was a good hour away and thanks to the information office we found a leaflet for buy one get one free!
All in all we had a fabulous time at Alders and cannot wait to go back! Its just a shame there is no park.

Another fantastic stay here as always. The older of the toilet blocks are in the process of being upgraded to look like the newer block and are looking great.
The 'storage area' has been converted into a 'proper' field with new bays. This area now has 2 camping pods for hire and are well worth checking out.
The kids loved the falconry display on Easter Sunday. There were also lots of lambs to see in the surrounding fields. The site is fenced off from the farm so our two girls were perfectly safe riding around on their bikes all day.
The shop sells more daily basic supplies but also sells fantastic sausages, burgers and even joints of saddleback pork all from the farm!
There was a Barn dance organised for the Royal wedding but unfortunately we were leaving that day.
Everywhere was spotless as always and the staff ever friendly.
This site is very well spaced out, clean and peaceful and in a great location to travel around the area.

A really lovely site. Satnav found the site easily. Nightly rate was £16 with or without EHU, and regardless of tent size. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Small amount of basic goods sold in the shop. Had a bit of noise from a nearby airfield, and minimal noise from trains, but it didn't bother us too much.
Lots of rooks each morning and evening, and on our last walk to the loos each night we were often lucky enough to spot the bats flying about. Grass / clover is well kept and the trees / hedges are maturing nicely.
We were with our tent in the storage field. Not quite as bad as it sounds, although along the side there were about 20 caravans. It would be nice if the owners gave their tent field a name, as all the caravan fields are.
The majority of caravans looked like they were seasonal, this made for a quite time during the week, the site became busier at the weekend, not too busy though. The caravan pitches all looked to be hardstanding. We don't use EHU and I think there were only 2 EHU points in the tent field.
Fresh water points were plentiful. The tent field has a slight slope, but we were able to choose where we pitched. We were directly in front of the entrance to the storage area, against the fence, and this position was mostly flat.
The washing up area is undercover and uses 20p for hot water, only once did we need 40p! Didn't need to use the waste water, so can't comment. We didn't use the laundry facilities either but he looked OK.
It has some of the best showers I have seen, lovely hot water, and plenty of room to change, no hopping about needed here. You are given a token (for a deposit of £1) and this was usually enough to shower and wash hair.
The showers are uni-sex, but the loos are separate. In the newer block there are 2 for each for men and women. But the shower rooms also had toilets. Toilet rooms were always clean and had plenty of loo paper, paper towels, hand soap, and a hairdryer. Only had to queue once for the showers.
While staying here we visited York, and we used the park and ride at Rawcliffe Bar.
Went to Castle Howard, which was fantastic I highly recommend it, simply stunning.
If you like ruins, try to find Byland Abbey (English Heritage), we came across it by accident. It was closed so we went back to it later in the week.
We also took the NYMR (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) to Whitby. This was very expensive (£21.00 each for a return ticket) and in my opinion not good value. I certainly would not do it again. Although perhaps our expectations were too high! However Whitby itself was lovely, as was Whitby Abbey (EH again).
Jorvik was OK but I'm glad we used out Tesco vouchers! Which we were also able to use for the York Sightseeing Bus tour. Enjoyed this, especially as you can get on and off at many points around the city. The audio guide was very good.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we would definitely return.

Fantastic site. This was our first camping trip and I was a little apprehensive. However, the site was wonderful. There were lots of animals around which kept the children happy. The toilet and shower facilities were fabulous. Each shower room also contained a sink and toilet so felt very private and homelike.
There were also lots of RAF planes around doing loop the loops and low flying during the day, which was fabulous to watch. Trips to the loo during the night were fine, it's not too far and there is opportunity to see some of the nocturnal wildlife.
I will definitely be visiting again.

Lovely site. Clean. Quiet. Dog friendly. Family friendly. Showers and toilets clean and smell ok. Reception were lovely and helpful.Site massive but felt safe and welcoming!cricket pitch on site.
I am sure it will be lovely to see a match and enjoy a pint or two in the clubhouse. On checking in we were given a card containing lots of useful information including take away and local shops. Security gate made us feel safe and regular trips around by owner also helped!

A nice site in a nice little village and not too far from York.
The approach to the pitches, once past reception, is through fields of grazing sheep and cows and alongside the cricket pitch, which adds to the peaceful scene.
The pitches are set around a large grass area giving the impression of lots of space, although I thought maybe better use could have been made of that space to provide a little more privacy, but that's a minor complaint.
We were only there for a couple of days and I didn't get to use the new toilet block. The old one is a bit past its best and I couldn't get the shower to provide hot water via the token slot system. Even with the new block I think the number of showers available is a bit on the tight side given the number of campers.
I also couldn't find anywhere to 'dump' the waste water - not the chemical waste, that's well provided for - and was told by a regular just to tip it in the grass!
Overall though and for the price (£16 per night) its hard to be too critical. The staff were very friendly and helpful and as I said the location is good. You can get to York via park and ride which is 10 minutes drive away or via a local bus service.

Visited Alders for one night on our third camping trip in June. We stayed in the Storage field and as previously mentioned in other reviews we were not to be put off by the name. It was nice and quiet, with only one other tent pitched and there was plenty of space for our three year old to run around with his ball. No play park but we did not miss one. We could hear the odd train during the day but this was not a problem.
We paid £16 including EHU. Really nice clean toilet/shower facilities with both ladies and gents having toilets and washbasins, two individual shower rooms, disabled shower room and bathroom all with toilet and washbasin. Showers were operated by a refundable token purchased from Reception. The owners were helpful and the area very pleasant. We were pleased with our short visit and do intend to return.

Great location to travel to York and surrounding area.
This was our first time staying in the Woodlands area of the site, we usually ask to stay in the 'storage' area [don't be misled by the title]as the field is so big and spacious and great for the children to play in. All pitches are of a good size [no tripping over neighbours], and are not overlooking each other.
There's no park on site [but one in village] however, the children enjoyed themselves riding their bikes in the big open spaces all around the site, lots of farm animals too.
The cricket pavilion in the middle of the farm opens weekends and all guests are welcome.
The toilets etc are immaculate at all times and showers are now included in the price, still 20p for pot wash but again spotless at all times and water nice and hot so well worth the money.
Reception now sells essential items including hot baked bread, home produced burgers and sausages and the best eggs around!
Pitch fee £16 2 adults 2 children,includes electric, Bargain!
Staff friendly and helpful as always.
All looking forward to our next visit.
