Visited the Alders last week in my motorhome with my 12 year old son and we were joined by my sister with her two boys (12 and 14) for two nights. My sister has been visiting the site for 12 years camping with friends in the summer and it was my first visit. Very helpful and friendly owners. Site was good valve for the 5 of us as 2 adults and 2 children included in price of £15 with electric hookup and £2.50 for the extra child. Very spacious pitches with lots of open space for children to play. We had the whole field to ourselves. Although no formal play area on site the site is ideal for children with loads of space to run about, woods to play in and paths to cycle round but if required there is an excellent play area; skatepark and tennis courts in the village. Toilets and showers fantastic especially the new block as individual rooms including shower, toilet and hand basin - some have small baths also - well worth the 50p for 5 minutes hot water. Ended up staying three nights rather than two as liked the site so much. National cycle route 65 adjacent to site which we used to cycle to Newton on Ouse - loads of great lanes for cycling in this area with older children although there was quite a lot of traffic if you had young children although part of route 65 along a track/off road. We dropped the boys at Water World just outside York at Monks Cross and my sister and I caught the park and ride into York for a look round. Park and ride very efficient service. Also lots of shops at Monk Cross (Asda, Sainsburys, M&S etc) and Clifton Moor? (big Tesco) so stock up on supplies.

Lovely safe & well maintained site, owners really helpful and polite. They froze our freezer blocks at no extra cost, only problem was the limited opening times of reception which meant that we couldn't always access them. Showers at a cost and in the old block we had a problem getting hot water.
The real disappointment was the distance from the facilities for the tent users as they are put in the farthest field. We both had to queue for the loo at times too. There are good lit paths to the loos, etc. From caravan pitches but not to the tent pitches which meant wet treks in the night.
There didn't seem to be any shops in the immediate vicinity and the nearest village of Easingwold was expensive and limited. We had awful fish and chips from there one night. We realised, rather too late, that it was probably easier to pop into the outskirts of York where there are large supermarkets and restaurants (also cheaper petrol).
Beautiful rural location with sheep and cows for company right next to the village cricket pitch if that's your interest. Good location for touring Yorkshire but a car is essential.
Despite leaving a day early as couldn't tolerate another night's worth of toilet treks we would probably return but would make sure we had a 'porta potty'.

As mentioned - a cracking site and the new shower block is better than my facilities at home ! Loved the available alternative of the bath instead of shower.
We were in the 'storage' area with our tent, but that didn't bother us as we were largely on our own in there before the weekend.
Really friendly and helpful site owners. Very clean site and facilities
The only real gripes I have is that you pay for electric wether you use it or not, which is unfair also considering there were only two available points in that storage field.
Secondly, despite the £15 price, you still had to buy 50p tokens for the showers and use 20p for the pot wash. With those being additional it makes it expensive. The '7 minutes' of hot water for the bath was only in fact around 4 - I timed it. So had to use two tokens for a deep bath.
But, despite the above, would re-visit this site as sometimes it's worth paying the extra for those excellent facilities.
Good base location for exploring Yorkshire. Used the park and ride facility for a visit to York - excellent facilities and buses, taking the hassle out of it all.

Very friendly welcome on arrival, given a talk of the area with what there is to do etc, local shops.
Taken to our pitch at the top of the site (Woodlands) which we thought was the best location on the site although everywhere seemed pleasant. Toilets were clean and also had individual showers, and even a bath.
Not a lot for the kids to do, however they did spend some time looking around the animals.
Never got to sample the local cricket club although there was a match in play.
Would certainly recommend this site and the surrounding area. We will be back again here for sure.

This site is fantastic! We loved it so much we have been back another 4 times! This is from people who have said that we would prefer not to go back to the same camp sites again. They are very child friendly as well as group friendly. There is roughly 25 of us that go, all families. The owners are very helpful, and the site is on a working farm, the animals are loose around the farm(cannot get into the camping area) but the kids loved walking/riding on bikes up to see the calves, lambs horses and chickens. Beautiful, well maintained grounds. Toilets and showers are great and so clean, best shower I have had! 5*

Lovely site. Really spacious and well kept. Toilets are clean and nice en-suite shower rooms. You pay 50p for shower tokens but worth the money. There are 2 toilet/shower blocks. The new one is very plush but the original one is good too. Washing up water is on coin meter (use the one on the older block - only 10p!) The cricket club was very nice and friendly. Enjoyed a drink and watched a few overs. Easingwold (just a few minutes drive away) is a lovely little town. Has a small co-op and a few nice food shops and pubs. Also good hardware store and lovely cafe (TeeHee's) in the square.
There is no playground on the site but loads of room to play as pitches are well spaced out. There is a good playground in the village.
All in all a really nice site and we would be very happy to return.

This was only our second time camping in this country. This campsite was of a very high standard. We were shown to our pitch by a very nice lady, as we didn't want an electric hook up we could choose where we wanted to pitch our tent in the field. The toilets were a minutes walk away, they were of a very high standard and very clean. The showers had there own toilet and sink in with them which I thought was a great idea.
Although there is no shop in Alne the reception did sell milk eggs and bread. The nearest shop is in the next village which was a 10 minute drive away although the man on reception did say if we walked across the fields it was only a mile or so, he also said if there was anything we wanted from the shop his wife would be going and would get it for us!
There is one pub that serves meals, however the man on reception informed us the owner wouldn't serve drink without you buying a meal and it was around £25 per person, so we didn't bother with that. As we had the hottest weekend of the year whilst we were there we just cooked outside the tent.
There is a lovely cricket club which is open Friday nights and Saturdays. My husband got to watch the game on Saturday afternoon, and Fred the barman made us feel very welcome.
We will definitely return to Alne it was lovely friendly campsite.
There is however no children's playground, but there is plenty of area's for them to play round the pitches. As our children are teenagers this doesn't really bother us anymore but for families with small children I would say this is the only thing that lets the site down.

A superb site clean and well looked after with very helpful staff. On arriving there is a security gate and a greeting from the free range chickens and cattle when you drive through. We went as 4 family groups in the woodlands camping for 2 nights. There was loads of room for the kids to go crazy and wear themselves out the showers were superb you basically got a bathroom to yourself. A park about 10 minute walk with a zip line which the kids loved. While we were there the Alne CC 2nd team was playing and we had a few beers in the glorious sunshine and while you stay on the site you are automatic members of the club, open Fridays and saturday nights, kids welcome. All in all a great place and will definitely go back.

This site is situated in the small village of Alne You drive up to a electric gate and the reception building/farm food shop.Once through the gates drive across a sheep/cow/chicken/horse field past a caravan club site on the right and Alne cricket club on the left.Across the second cattle grid and you enter the main caravan site which is a game of two halves one named abbeys the other named dales. It is a well kept site with two sets of showers/toilets but the dales are far superior (as they are the newest)and the ones most seem to use. The site is taken by mostly seasonal who take up around 80% of the 100 odd spaces, on the dales side there are only two spaces allocated to tourers nearly all are seasonal its like a small village and your the new people in town,on the other side (Abbeys)the top part are mostly seasonal and tourers are put past the showers or the field near to the abbey storage compound Tents also seem to be placed here or on the storage field on the other side (dales) > there is nothing for kids to do apart from walks or a playground in the village some 1/4 mile away There are no shops near either 2miles to Tollerton or the 4miles to Easingwold or the trip into York. There is a pub in the village and the cricket club is open to Seasonal & Tourers on a Friday/Saturday Night All in all the Toilets/showers are some of the best ive seen up till now The site is clean and level the EHU however is a measley 8amp and are always going off they seem to have a major electrical problem on site other than that and the high seasonal owners this site is well worth a visit but the kids will be bored !

We loved this site!
Everything from the moment we arrived was superb!
We were put in the 'Storage Area' which was fine, as it was lovely and spacious.
The whole campsite was lovely and clean considering it was a farm!
We sampled some of their home-bred beefburgers which were delicious!
The shower block facilities were amazing! Althought you had to pay, we didn't mind one bit. You pay for what you get and it was brilliant!
It was nicely lit without being intrusive and very sheltered from traffic noise etc.
The bar area was quite basic but we wandered across to sample a pint which was good.
There was a lot to do and see around the area, and we used the park and ride several times. We also went to the next village to the local shop which was good. Everyone made us feel welcome.
We would most definitely use this site again! The price etc was good and reasonable. Staff were kind and friendly.
Although it was absolutely chucking it down with rain when we got there, we had the best weeks break we'd had for ages! Loved it!
