A lovely friendly caravan club site in a great location. We were on a grass pitch near the play park and although on a slight hill it was manageable.
Play park as very popular but was not noisy.
Toilet block dated but very clean as well as laundry where I spent a lot of time having young boys who attract mud.
Woolacombe beach is fantastic but parking is a rip off. We spent a lovely day at the beach at Combe Martin, great for rock pooling. Would recommend this site and will def be back on next visit to North Devon.

Our initial impression was that this site was a bit too open for our personal taste. There is little or nothing to separate the various pitches and this sadly has the effect that people were inclined to cut in and walk through pitches, rather than around.
As outlined by previous comments, the toilet block is, indeed, a bit old, but it was always lovely and clean and the showers had unlimited water, with adjustable temperature.
A nice touch was that the radiators were on, on chillier mornings.
We stayed over the August Bank holiday weekend, and we were amazed to notice that after the bank holiday, two of the eight showers were permanently closed off. We felt this was a bit unnecessary, considering not that many units had left the site.
As for the local area, we love the Woolacombe area, and whilst we will return to Woolacombe, we would select another site.

Considering this was a caravan club site we were extremely disappointed with the state of the shower blocks. The floor tiles within the tiny cubicles were sunken so that you are stood in a puddle of water (making it difficult to get dressed). The water accumulated in the aisle between the showers as it had nowhere to run. The ceiling tiles were turning mouldy and the pressure from the showers was poor making it near impossible to rinse out the shampoo for your hair.
We have stayed at this site before as we like being close to the Tarka Trail, but are reluctant to return and pay caravan club fees for sub standard services. All very disappointing!

We stayed here for a week during the main summer holidays and would have to agree with some other reviews in that this site is not as up to date and manicured as some other CC sites. The site is nicely laid out, with pitches divided into crescent type areas so although the site was full, it didn't feel crowded. It was very very busy, as you would expect at this time of year and although we arrived just after 12 we struggled to find a vacant pitch. We were not blessed with sunny weather and after a period of rain, the area around the 'back gate' access to the Tarka Trail did suffer with the ground becoming churned up and muddy.
Lots of people moaned about the water pressure to the showers, which was a bit of dribble in most cubicles to be honest and, as I have long, thick hair, I found it very frustrating! They are not the fixed head type though, so ideal for children and I always found them to be clean and the water warm. There was usually a small queue, but not a problem.
The wardens were always extremely pleasant and helpful; both on arrival for locating a vacant pitch and in assisting with maps and directions for local walks etc. You can walk or cycle to Ilfracombe along the Tarka Trail, accessed at the back of the site, which is about 4 miles (one way. And very very steep on the return!) and over the fields to Woolacombe, Lee and Mortehoe.
The area is very dog friendly, with most surrounding villages having at least one dog friendly pub - with the exception of Croyde Bay who are really NOT dog friendly! Woolacombe has 4 dog friendly pubs and a vast stretch of the beach after Mill Rock where dogs can be let off lead and you can either set your tent up for the day in an uncrowded area, or walk for miles along the sands or dunes. The Fortescue Arms is just a 10 min walk up the Tarka Trail is very dog friendly and serves very nice, if expensive, food. Beware though, they do have a pub cat who refuses to move and likes to tease the dogs!
It was a shame that for us, this site was just that little bit too far out of Woolacombe as we like to pitch up, leave the car at home and explore on foot. We found we could walk one way but were unable to get a bus back other than from Woolacombe but not in the evenings, therefore felt a little hemmed in. However, if you like to explore the surrounding area each day in your car then this site is well placed for doing just that - the roads are very narrow and not for the nervous driver and the car parking in Woolacombe is a hefty £7 for the day!

Well, what a site! We spent a week here in august and loved every second.
We had a grass pitch near the children's play area which was fab. Pitch wasn't level but perfectly manageable.
Wardens were really friendly and worked really hard as the site was full. Toilet block was clean and laundry well equipped.
Site is close to Woolacombe and all the shops and popular beach there. We went to spend the day at Combe Martin beach which is beautiful and great for rock pooling I would definitely recommend a trip there.
All in all a fab site and we will be back.

We base our site review on how motorhome and dog friendly it is.
This site is well laid out, as one would expect with C/Club and level hardstanding pitches. The service points are rather too well spaced meaning rather long walks to collect water etc
The toilet block is very dated but was always clean and warm on my visits.
The Tarka trail is the dog walk accessed by back gate you are given the key for. You can walk or cycle off road to Ilfracombe about 4 miles Walking to woolacombe, is best via a footpath though the fields (map at reception) and the beach is dog friendly at one end.
The Beachcomber on the front does great food and is dog friendly.
Buses are frequent and dog friendly and welcome in narrow lanes with no footpaths. We stayed 3 nights.

Came to this site Mid-October for a 3 night break. Site easy to find with CC directions, greeted by friendly warden who advised us to drive around site and find a suitable pitch.
Considering how lovely the weather was the site was quite empty, we had a good choice of hardstanding pitches to chose from. What we liked about this site is that it's been left a bit 'natural' and has a countryside feel rather than it being regimented like the last CC site we visited and hated! (Hillhead, Brixham). We loved the fact that all the pitches had clearly been thought out so that you were not looking at rows and rows of caravans.
The shower block is not as 'high tech' as previous CC we have visited, but it was very clean whatever time I visited. Fresh flowers in the ladies. Shower temperature fantastic but pressure was a little low for my liking. The only gripe about the loos was the flush pressure - on two occasions I had to flush 3 times before it would flush sufficiently.
Site in ideal location for North coast, very short drive into Woolacombe itself (park on road not in car park who wanted £4) Ilfracombe also very close with a nice range of little local shops and lovely fish & chips along the sea front. Putsborough beach is stunning (£3.50 to park) but has a beach cafe set in the cliffs. Avoid Croyde beach if you don't want crowds, we found the village a bit 'up itself' - reminded me a bit of Rock in Cornwall, where it's almost as if you're not walking around in designer clobber then you wouldn't fit in there!
To sum up, perfectly located quiet site within easy reach of all attractions. A nice laid back CC site, we will definitely return.

Fantastic Site! Really friendly welcome, nicely landscaped. Toilet block always spotlessly clean, with plenty of hot water. Wardens work hard on the site and it shows, everywhere is very well maintained.
Visiting fresh fish & seafood van on a Friday evening, and a very good Fish & Chips van on a Saturday evening - we tried both! You get given a key to a gate onto the Tarka Trail, which is great for walking or if you have brought your bikes (also useful for a dog walk).
We stayed there for 10 nights with our 2 year old daughter, and it was a great location for lots to do. We hired bikes from Barnstaple to go on the Tarka Trail, went to Croyde beach - NT members, go and park at Baggy Point (fab tea room!),
Ilfracombe is great to walk around, nice butchers and great little veggie cafe called Grassroots. We also went to Fremington Quay and went to the little cafe there, very nice food. Plenty of huge, clean sandy beaches.
If the weather gets windy, it can blow the awnings around a bit, so make sure you have good pegs. We will definitely be going back!

I was generally a bit disappointed with this site.
Ok- the positives: the best wardens I have ever come across-friendly, helpful, ever cheerful. A lovely general area, with loads to do. A decent pub / restaurant 10 mins walk away. Great tidal pool in Ilfracombe. Trip to Lundy Island brilliant, worth every penny.
The negatives: not a very attractive site (not at all what I was expecting, from the other reviews)-pretty open, a bit barren looking, and windy. My major gripe was with the toilet block.
It is old, old, old, not usual CC standard. Of the 4 showers I tried, 2 weren't powerful/warm enough. The toilets didn't flush well (consequently many had an unpleasant surprises waiting in them!).
The hand drier didn't work-this was supposed to being fixed. The washing up area was outside, and one of the sinks had no cover whatsoever. However, as the week went on I got used to it.
The reviews in the comments book were all magnificent, made me think, was I being over critical? However, on this holiday we stayed at 2 other CC sites, both with far superior facilities.

What an absolutely fabulous site. Near to everything you could want Beaches, Shops, Golf Courses, Countryside & Quietness. A brilliant site with very courteous staff in attendance, able to answer any questions about the vicinity.
The site offers Grass and Hardstandings as well as having pitches designated for Disabled. The facilities on the site could not be faulted at all. Access to the site being the only slight problem if you are not fully confident with towing.
