Beautiful open site with lots of different areas to choose from. One toilet block in the middle and easily accessible. The wardens were very accommodating and keen to pass on local knowledge.
Woolacombe close by but car parks very busy - we were there over half term. Ilfacombe likewise but the harbour area is lovely especially in the evening.
Good pubs for food within a couple of miles and they are generally dog friendly.

Had a short stay here and couldn't fault it. The site was almost full but the pitches are really well spaced so it didn't feel cramped at all. The staff were so very helpful and pleasant. The loos, showers and kitchen facilities were all blisteringly clean and the water very hot.
They give you a key to the site's back gate to walk the dog on the Tarka Trail. This trail, also a cycle way can lead you all the way into Ilfracombe if you want or if you turn left you can join one of the miriade of footpaths. It is well worth buying the little map in the shop of the area, only £2 and it shows all the footpaths and cycle ways.
Can't comment on any of the local eateries as the weather was so nice we had a BBQ. The local fish and chip van turned up at about 6pm it was a Saturday evening, the queue was very long, so I guessed they must be as good as they smelt! We would return, definitely!

Stayed here for 3 nights in September. Very friendly greeting, wardens great. We were given a key to the gate and walked to the Fortescue Arms, thought we had gone back in time to the 70's bit frayed around the edges but the food was great. We stayed on a hard standing pitch because the grass ones were still a bit soggy after a lot of rain, we were close to the toilet/shower block which was good because there is only one and when we were there two showers were boarded up so there were only 4 showers (which seemed strange to do this at the weekend)they were very clean but could do with being renovated. Cycled to Ilfracombe along the Tarka Trail, very good but when we got to Ilfracombe, very steep. Town a bit run down but had good fish and chips on the seafront. Walked into Woolacombe over the fields and styles, got the bus back, further than we thought it was going to be. Nice stay.

I have mixed impressions of this site as we stayed here during some horrendous downpours at the end of July.
As with other reviews we were told to find our own pitch and then report back to reception. Considering the weather situation and that it was the height of season it may not have been the best option. Perhaps the warden could have done a sweep of the site and allocated the best pitches accordingly. As we have two young children we asked if we could move to a hardstanding pitch to be told 'If you leave your pitch, you leave the site, we're not churning up the grass anymore than necessary'. Towards the end of the week they were cancelling holidays because we were so swamped out (maybe a few more hard standings are required!).
Generally the campsite was well kept with generous pitches as you would expect. Toilet facilities good and clean but like others I think it would benefit from another one at the other end of the site. The children's play area is fine if a little small, but then you don't come all the way down here just for the children's play area.
There's lots to do in the local area including a fine walking route into Ilfracombe along an old railway line (I think). Also very impressive beaches all around.
One last thing to point out - I think the site was run a little bit too autocratically, it may have been the weather, it may have been just their style, but it wasn't for me, so for all of the above I'm out (and won't be returning).

You approach this site down a single track road so beware if you meet any thing. We arrived here on a Saturday morning at 11. 30am. The reception was closed because the toilets were being cleaned, a piece of paper directed you to the block where the warden wielding a toilet brush greeted us at the door. We were told to pitch on grass. I asked if we could have hard standing twice and was told NO use the grass. When asked what tow vehicle we had got and said a 4X4 he told us not to make a mess because 4X4 drivers were making a mess of his grass.
It was difficult to find a pitch that had not got any damage mainly due to plastic ground sheets being used, they were being used however because the grass was very long and as a consequence was holding the water.
We were there for the week and the grass around us was not cut once despite some good weather.
The toilet block as stated in other reviews is old and needs updating but 6 of the ladies toilets one particular day would not flush away what was in them, The launderette was dirty and decrepit.
The dog walk consists of a tarmac path that forms part of the Tarka Trail which is badly overgrown there is no grass or proper exercise area.
The reception sells nothing much of any use, not even bread and milk and doesn't open until 9. If you want long wet grass on mostly sloping pitches with an old toilet block, no dog walk and a dangerous approach road this is the place for you.

We were slightly apprehensive about using this CC site after reading the previous reviews but we were very pleasantly surprised!
Over the Winter period (2008/09) the CC have installed more large hardstanding pitches. Mainly all in one area and some with views over the coast and Lundy Island (on a clear day!).
On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly wardens and told to pitch where we liked and let them know our pitch number. We chose the hardstanding part of the site, but there are plenty of grass pitches in 3 or 4 other separate areas for those who prefer it.
There is just one 'central' toilet block. This could do with a bit of updating but was clean and tidy most of the time (until the kids arrived for the bank holiday weekend!). Plenty of showers, toilets and sinks (privacy cubicles in the ladies) and we never had to queue.
There is also a laundry on site along with a washing up area and a fantastic information room packed full of leaflets, maps and tips for the local area.
The on site shop sells the usual essentials (milk, eggs, butter), a few camping goodies and daily newspapers that have to be pre-ordered and paid for the day before. A 5p delivery charge is added to the cost of the paper.
A 'local' fish & chip waggon visits the site twice a week - Saturdays and Mondays - and the fish and chips are excellent and not overpriced by any means! Highly recommended.
There is access from the site directly onto the Tarka Trail (bike track) via a locked gate (you can request a key from the wardens if you plan to use the track regularly). Great for us dog walkers. About 10 mins walk along the track (turn right out of the site gate) is the Fortescue Arms Hotel. Again we had read the previous reviews so didn't expect too much from the place but it's a great place. Really friendly staff, doggie friendly (designated area in the bar) and brilliant food.
The Tarka Trail turns into National Cycle Network 27 (near the Fortescue Arms) and takes you down into Ilfracombe (approx 4.5 miles each way). We walked there (and back!) in glorious sunshine on bank holiday weekend Sunday. We also walked into Woolacombe over the weekend. The site will provide you with a map detailing the public footpath route from the site for a 10p donation to the Devon Air Ambulance. We took the road route on the way down but I wouldn't recommend it as the road is very popular and busy and they don't drive slowly! We followed the map on the way back. Beware owners of 'older' dogs - some of the Devon stiles are very high and difficult for dogs to clear!
If we had one complaint about the site it was kids riding their bikes round and round the site every evening completely unaware of other campers and cars! They were also allowed (by the parents again?!) to play ball games whereever they liked, even though site rules state no ball games other than in the play area!
Despite that we really enjoyed our stay on this site and will definitely be back. Being only an hour and 20 mins from home is a bonus for us!

An average park in need of updating. Toilets and showers are very good but only one block to service the whole site, pitches on the periphery a little too far away, Play area is uninspiring and there is nothing else for children. Avoid the pitches near the play area as these are very tight and require careful positioning of your outfit. Hardstanding pitches are a good size but may be occupied by a small motorhome. No pitch allocation may lead to frustration if you have to drive round the site looking for a pitch, which may prove unsuitable for your outfit.
A car is a must since there are no footpaths - narrow lanes are dangerous for pedestrians.
A great fish and chip van visits, well recommended if you are prepared to wait.
An expensive site which really offers little.

Had fabulous holiday here. Loads to do. Usual CC site clean and well kept. Great spot on the Tarka trail.Nice walk along it 5 Min's to fortescue arms, nearest pub.
Woolacombe great beach for surfing. Other end of Woolacombe is Putsborough beach, well worth a visit. Less crowded waves calmer for swimming. Lovely sand for making pies!.
Amazing cliff top walk from woolacombe to Mortehoe recommended.Saw two seals.
Ilfracombe nearby quaint if a bit run down town. Went for great Spanish Tapas there cant remember name of it though!
Cant wait to go back.

This was the first caravan club site we have tried and we were very impressed overall. We got a very friendly welcome from the owners and they seemed very organised. We chose our own pitch and were given a key to the gate onto the Tarka Trail behind the site which is brilliant for walking the dog! The pitches are a very good size and the water / rubbish / chemical toilet points are easily accessible. The showers are possibly the cleanest, most powerful showers I have used and the whole block was very clean and bright. It rained heavily for the early part of the week but the grass never got too wet or boggy (fields in the surrounding area did) so they must ave very good drainage! The beaches nearby are excellent for kids and grown-ups alike and there are plenty of tourist attractions close by. Highly recommended site!

Just got back from a week at this lovely site. We went the week before the bank holiday so it was nice and quiet until Friday/Saturday and boy was it busy then! Personally I thought that when it got busy, it looked a bit too crowded, but I guess that what you get for visiting this popular tourist area. It is up to the usual high standards of the Caravan Club, the shower blocks were immaculately clean. The shops sells basic groceries and there is a nice pub a short walk away. Had a trip to Watermouth Castle, which is great for young kids, you pay once and that's it apart from the slot machines. But these aren't the hi-tech stuff we see today, some of these things must be a hundred years old. Also went to Clovelly, which is really, really nice, be warned though, if you're not steady on your feet, that hill will be quite a challenge. Also the price of the food was a bit of a shock!
