Just returned from a very pleasant 5 night stay on this site. An amazing place full of wildlife, never seen so many rabbits, a rookery and large badger sett in the woods. The site also has a large fishing pond which is normally charged for but we were let off, fished 3 nights and caught lots of good roach and perch, there is apparently a lot more species in there but l never had them.
The site itself is a fair size and has a good number of statics, and also some sited tourers, there appears to be two areas for tourers, one hardstanding and the other grassy area. The site is spotless, bearing in mind that its just opened however, what its like later in the year is anyones guess. There is a shop on site, which was not open yet, a laundrette and a toilet and shower block. I showered in the evening and l saw no one, a guy l met later in the week told me it always seems extra busy on bank hols.
The site is really rural and there are no shopping facilities local, one would have to drive into Ellesmere for bits, there is a large tesco store there as well as the usual array of other shops, distance being about 3. 5mls from the site.
There are two pubs fairly nearby, one in the outpost of Northwood and the other in Welshhampton, that said l would definitely miss the pub at Northwood, ignored when we went in, cold and scruffy and no wifi, the waitress/owner said they didn't have it and had never been asked for it before, yerrrrrrrr, so we left and went to Sun Inn. This pub nice, warm and good food and plenty of it.
We had a great time exploring locally and will probably go back sometime, the only downside is the cost of the pitches, it is definitely expensive at 23quid a night and this alone would put a lot of people off, and the other downside is the number of showers and loos, l would imagine in high season you would be waiting for a slot.

Stayed for 4 nights over the jubilee weekend, lovely site, very well maintained and clean, showers spotless.
There is a pub but its about a mile away.
The lake and woods are beautiful we loved walking around them, there is some good fish in the lake and well worth a fish.
Only downside is we couldn't pick up a satellite so make sure you take a tv aerial, and it could do with WI-FI as mobile phone signals were not very good so the kids could go on the internet.
But apart from that its one of the best we have been on

The site is set in lovely surroundings with a lake within an area of woodland which borders onto the Shropshire canal.
The staff are helpful and friendly. The facilities were always clean with the exception of the floor. There were not many staying on site when we were there so perhaps they assumed the floors were OK.
The only downside is we asked for the adults only part of the site which is on a grassed area adjacent to the toilets. This area has lots of rabbits and the area is full of holes. My wife badly sprained her ankles on the first day resulting in a trip to Shrewsbury hospital. She was laid up for a week at Fernwood and a week at another venue in York which totally ruined our holiday. Please beware if pitched on the adults only part of the site.
We arrived at 12.15pm on Sunday and were kept waiting until nearly 1 pm before someone came to advise us what to do.

Really enjoyed our stay at Fernwood. We didn't travel far as we only wanted a few days away. The site was lovely, showers block was clean but myself and another camper found the showers weren't working for some unknown reason.
I wasn't aware when I booked this site that there were no washing up facilities available, it wasn't a problem for us as we were only there a few days but it was something I must admit I had presumed would be available and it hadn't occurred to me that there would be non on site. There is a sink in the laundry room however.

This site is a real gem, peaceful, quiet and tranquil.
We went to bed at 10 in the evening and never got up until 10 in the morning! but saying that we were on the adults only part so it was really peaceful.
There is a playground at the other end of the site near the little shop with swings, slides and room to play games so all the little ones seem to meet up there and all play together.
The toilet / shower block is brand new and always kept spotless, everybody just give the shower floor a quick mop when they had finished which helped to keep it that way. Always hot water when ever we went for a shower.
We had a bike ride into Ellesmere down the back lanes from the site and came back along the side of the canal, we saw very little traffic doing it this way. It's also nice to have a relaxing stroll around the woods to the canal in the evening to see what wild life there is.
We would like to recommend the cafe at the mere very nice light meals, coffee and cakes. Also in the little shop next to the cafe they had cameras set up so you could see inside bird boxes and the nests on the island. There is a Pub about a mile down the road that does a great Sunday dinner, I don't remember the name but the man that runs the site will tell you where it is, he's very helpful.
We would recommend this site to everybody, just hope we can get a pitch next time we need to catch up on our sleep!

My family and I have spent weekends here on many occasions. My father has too in his motorhome.
The site is spacious, clean, well laid out and has good facilities.
Father enjoys the canal and lake for fishing.
The woods offer good short walks and the local area offers good longer walks.
Children love the swings and ice cream in the small shop.
We’ve spent a couple of bank holiday weekends here and never felt the site is crowded or facilities stretched.
My only gripe is the nightly cost which seems a little high when compared to sites that provide electric, water, waste and TV points on your pitch for the same price.
We will be back though as it’s a good site for a weekend break.

We have just returned from a weekend at Fernwood and had to write a review. Great place to stay - we only travelled from Telford for a short break and cannot fault the site at all. Loveley welcome when we arrived by the owner in his landrover! Very helpful lady on the phone when we booked! The owners have made this a lovely place to be. My parents came for one evening in their motorhome and the owners happily parked them on the pitch next to us, very helpful and nothing too much trouble.Very spacious pitches, loveley walks, nice relaxed atmosphere, toilet & shower block very clean.Would have been nice to have a little more in the shop on site but we are certainly not grumbling.Plenty of space for children to play safely! We will certainly visit again with our little boy. Grassed areas kept really well, beautiful flowers all around the site, no strict rules - you respect their site and they look after you! What a great site this is our fourth time to this site and we have booked again for the next bank holiday. The site itself is massive with tourers and statics.Every pitch has electric hook up,some pitches are super pitches. Also there is a adults only part which is a good touch, the walks are great you have got the woods which lead to the canal. The toilets and showers are very clean with constant hot water. There is a small shop on site which sells the basics,if you need a morning paper make sure you order it.The only thing wrong is it is a bit pricey to stay but all in all you would not be let down by this site it is wonderful. The road to the site can be a bit tight so be warned when you come off the main road be careful.

We have just returned having spent the mayday bank holiday there. It was our first outing of the season and I would highly recommend this site. Our sons loved all the open space and woodland walks, the shower facilities were excellent - lovely and clean, and the staff were helpful friendly and I would recommend this site to anyone.

Lovely quiet site with lots of room and if you have no kids with you the adults only field is bliss, lots of wildlife to keep you company. Make sure your off the ground in the awning as the field mice are very nosey through the night :). The toilet and shower block is excellent and clean but no washing up area.
I went for the fishing but found it a waste of time, a maximum of 2 ft deep and absolutely full of lily pads so dense that its very hard to fish although the pegging out platforms are top class. I was told there were large stocks of carp roach, crucian carp, tench and rudd but if they were in that lake they did a good job of hiding. I only found out on the last evening that there is a stretch of the canal through the woods that is owned by the family and is on the day ticket but it is a longish walk. All in all for a quiet weekend away its an excellent well managed site, but from a fishing point of view they have a long way to go to make it a recommended location.
