This was our first trip in our first ever caravan and obviously our first experience of getting on-site with it.

We arrived late (9:30pm), but the owner couldn't have been more kind and helpful.

He confided that during the recent Tour de France that went very near the site, some sites on the route were charging £100+ per pitch, but he insisted on staying to £10 per pitch, £3 for hookup etc as he wanted to look at the long view. I admired him for that.

Our pitch had a tiny slope, which the legs easily coped with, but all the pitches seemed fairly flat. The water tap was a 100 yd stroll as was the waste water area. The toilet cassette waste disposal was near the toilets.

The toilets consist of a shower, one loo and stand up for the men and two loos and a shower in the ladies. Despite being in a portacabin they were clean and had plenty of hot water.

Near the loos was a drying area with lines (just don't use it at weekends - not a problem for us as we were only there for a weekend) and a generously equipped washing up area.

The morning was the great eye-opener. The site has fabulous views. Top-tip: Walk up to the top of the main area, through the walk between the trees and look over the fence at the end. I'll not spoil it - just go there and see it, especially early morning as the mist rises over the valley - beautiful.

Elland is indeed a short walk away, including the real-ale pub (Barge and Barrel) and Morrisons. The pub is highly recommended.

I lived in this area for 18 years. My son has lived in Brighouse for 30 years and neither of us knew that this delightful site existed.

The only word of caution is that the entrance to the pitches is up a very short, but steep approach. There is a remote controlled, key fob operated automated bollard (brilliant for security) that is quite close to the pole that you have to wave the fob at. Don't do as I did and ride the clutch as you tow a tonne of caravan whilst desperately waving this thing at the pole. Get a companion the lower the bollard and drive straight up.

Overall we loved Elland Hall and will book again and again as the place to go to see my son and his family.

PS: Everyone and their children were so welcoming that my son said 'I have never seen the 'boys' make friends so quickly'.

PPS: I got a round of applause when I made my 32-point turn to get the rig off the incredibly massive pitch and turning area.

Excellent site, the field itself is very nice, excellent tv reception and phone reception. Toilet block adequate, but I suspect if it was busy, one toilet and shower would not be enough and could do with a bit of modernising. The area of elland leaves a lot to be desired. But this does not detract form this being a great little site.

We stayed here one night to try out our new motorhome which we had just collected from Wildax Motorhomes who convert Citroen vans only 2 miles away, opposite Morrisons supermarket. We couldn't believe that there was such lovely countryside so close to the town and small industrial area.

The campsite was next to a small field with sheep and lambs (the only noise we heard) beyond which was a another field leading up a hill to a bluebell wood at the top. We walked up the road and through the cemetery at the top into the bluebell woods, along the ridge, down the steep hillside to the Hebble and Calder Canal which runs alongside the Calder river. The towpath took us back into Elland and we walked back up the road to the campsite - an unexpected treat.

The campsite, and therefore the pitches, are small, but nicely laid out. The toilet/shower facilities are basic but OK, in what looks like a small temporary wooden building. I guess the facilities might get a bit crowded when the site is full.

We would certainly stay again if we were in the area as there is a lot of lovely countryside to explore, especially along the rive and canal.

Beautiful, peaceful and secluded. I love this site having just spent Easter weekend here. The site was full when we arrived but it felt very welcoming and the site manager was very helpful. Basic but perfectly acceptable shower/toilet facility. In fact the shower was hot and unlimited, perfect. Pub just a five minute walk away and shops including morrisons just a 10-15 minute walk. Visited nearby Halifax and Shibden Hall before spending afternoon sat in sunshine outside caravan. Very relaxing weekend, lovely surroundings and a happy atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at this campsite. The touring site has gated entrance so very safe and secure. A field of sheep were our neighbours. Very peaceful and quite. The site facilities are a little basic and dated but usable. What else do you expect for £13. 00 per night including EHU! The owner is very friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay here again and plan to book in again next year. If you are a cyclist or walker, then we recommend the Spen Valley Greenway. This is an 8 mile disused railway track about a 15 minute drive from the campsite.

Pleasant, well managed site with clean and easily accessible facilities. The site is located close to the M1 and gives good access to Wakefield. Not particularly picturesque but is quite close, walking distance, to local country park. Minutes from large supermarket, pubs, fish and chips and restaurants. Would particularly recommend the Square Pizza take away. Reasonably spacious plots, good TV and mobile phone reception.

Our first outing of the year was to Elland Hall Farm as it wasn't too far from home but in an area we'd not really explored before. I booked and then the snow fell so checked up two days before our planned arrival only to be reassured that the site was in good order ready to receive us.

We were warmly greeted on our arrival and personally shown to our pitch which had been cleared of snow. Apart from two motorhomes which were more long stay, we had the site to ourselves.

The WCs were fine and warm, cleaned regularly and in a good central position. The owner was very helpful with information on amenities in the local area. He runs a very nice site and we would certainly stay there again. £13/night for caravan, elec and two adults. A bargain.

It is close to Halifax which is a pleasant town with a good selection of shops. The area is great for walking and the scenery is fantastic, especially when covered in snow.

Last minute decision to go camping, weather really clear, dry but chilly.

Very pleased with the site, made to feel to welcome and a guided tour thrown in. Flat camping area, fairly dry even though everywhere else had been suffering from flooding.

Facilities are clean and fit for purpose, there is a heater fitted above the door threshold which helped in the cold morning. Running hot and cold water and a decent sized shower.

Just around the corner is the washing up area, sink, draining board, hot and cold water.

A short walk into Elland and you find several pubs and places to eat. There is a Co-op supermarket for shopping and a Morrisons being built not too far from the site if you walk though Elland.

Will probably return in the summer, at the price it's a great place to spend a weekend.

Despite the awful weather, made to feel very welcome, clean tidy very presentable campsite, not too large, easy to find and a great friendly pub in walking distance.

No problems at all, very pleasant staff, always a smile.

Not too sure on the 'security' post as site nice and quiet, and even though the area surrounding Elland flooded the site stayed usable and dried quickly, even though we were in a tent.

Would recommend to friends

I've been camping with a tent for years, but today I bought my first ever caravan and towed it tentatively from the dealer to Elland Hall Farm Campsite. I chose it mainly because it was more or less the nearest campsite to the dealers, one without any difficult roads or bends to get to it and thus keeping my first towing experience relatively short and minimising trauma.

When I booked, I joked about my ineptitude with the proprietor, and he was an absolute sweetheart - gave me a field practically to myself so I could just swing the van around without worrying about complicated manoeuvres, helped me reverse, and even let me call him out when I couldn't work out how to unhitch the car from the 'van! That's what I call service.

The site itself is small, quiet and unfussy. I get the feeling that some of the residents are old friends or regulars, and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. It's only a short hop from the motorway and therefore a useful base for all the towns along the M62 plus Manchester only 30 mins away. It's been a good base for my first caravan experience.
