We found this to be a charming, peaceful and very friendly site. The farm is situated on a hill just above the village, an easy, short drive away for all one's holiday needs. Surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, if you don't mind a few hills. The River Tees is beautiful, as are the surrounding moorlands and reservoirs. Sections of the Pennine Way are on your doorstep, again being very easy to access. High Force waterfall is a 'must visit'.
Proprietors Richard and Stephanie were very friendly and obliging, offering to store our bikes in a barn and always willing to break off from farm chores to chat and help. They take obvious pride in their small site, maintaining the facilities with efficiency and sensitivity, fresh flowers and nice soaps being in the shower and toilets, for example. Their own farm produce is on sale, but not forced upon you, and they are more than happy to show you the small farm and its horses, sheep and cattle.
We thoroughly recommend this site if you are looking for a private, peaceful stay in the heart of upland countryside, but with close access to the dale and its attractive villages.

After looking a whole afternoon in the surroundings for a campsite near the Pennine Way we finally found this quiet little campsite with beautiful view. We stayed more than a week at 'Richards' place. The space gets rather narrow when it is full but the site is well maintained so it causes no problems. It is a place, you get attached to. That, at least is our experience.

Really good time we had we only stopped for two days and it was lovely. Friendly couple who run it and perfect if you want to go walking cycling or fishing. The only downside for me is that you really need a car to get about the nearest village is about 2 miles away. This is okay but if you want to buy anything is a long hard walk back. All in all we had a really good time

Positives.
1. Location. Wonderful Views in a beautiful part of the World.
2. Animals. Kids loved them! Horses, sheep, chickens, pigs and nature all around.
3. Owner. Couldn't be nicer. Took kids to feed sheep and pigs.
4. Only small number of pitches so very quiet and private.
Negatives.
1. Cost. Expensive for a family of 5. £37.50 per night and extra for hookup.
2. Pitches. We got the best but others are small and sloping.
3. Facilities. Clean but old. Would expect a lot higher quality for the price paid. Shower is poor.
Summary.
Only had two nights but loved the area and would definitely return. Probably would try other sites as the £7.50 per person policy makes this expensive for my family of five.

What a brilliant little site - great location, lovely owners, good facilities. Not a bad word to day - exceeding all our expectations as the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome with cups of tea and biscuits on arrival, amazing cooked breakfast and a chance to warm ourselves by the aga. Lots of helpful advice about the area too.
We'll definitely be making a trip back.

I can only reiterate many of the positive points raised earlier in the reviews. This is a well located, well ran, welcoming and relaxing site. It is well located in that as keen walkers Middleton and a decent pint at the Bridge pub was a short moor land walk away. The site is well ran and organised with very helpful hosts. Our weekend has been very relaxing, cant beat sitting outside the van with my other half and a glass of wine (or two) watching the sun go down over great scenery and this is a great site to do just that. We will definitely be returning.

If you want a small friendly site, look no further. We were greeted with a cup of tea and biscuit from Richard and Stephanie the owners. Who always had time for a chat and are very knowledgable about the area. Their own lamb is a treat not to be missed. There is good shopping in nearby Middleton-in-Teesdale along with a selection of restuarants. If its dry enjoy the sun and views, if its wet enjoy High Force in spate. We spent 2 weeks here with spectacular views, a few extra tent pegs might be useful as the site is quite high. The facilities are all adequate and clean, large shower room with toilet and shower, seperate toilet and wash up facilities, chemical toilet disposal, electric hook-ups. If you're not into large commercial sites this is a gem.

Stayed during the half term break in May 2007 for 3 nights. The setting is great. The view from the pitch is magnificent. Access to two local villages is approx 3/4 mile so walking is not a problem for local pubs and shops. There is also a tourist information centre nearby in Middleton village. The site offers shower, toilet, pot washing facilities and are set in traditional out buildings on the farm and are welcoming. You are greeted on arrival and help is at hand for any local advice that is required. An OS map is available to use if you need directions. Local attractions are on the doorstep and High Force waterfall is approx a seven mile walk which is well worth the ramble as the enroute views must not be missed. Remember that you have to walk back. There is apparently a local bus service which will drop off at your destination on request.details are available at the farm as they have an information file within one of the out buildings. The chickens do like to roam and offer some real entertainment when squabbling. Access to Brough is very direct and the drive is superb for viewing. Take time to drive and enjoy the view or you'll miss it and watch out for the sheep and lambs that occasionally roam onto the road. Enjoyable, welcoming and friendly.Highly recommended.

We arrived at the site to be greeted by the owner as we stepped out of the car. He showed us around and asked where we would like to pitch and told us if we had forgotten anything then just to let him know and he would help. The site and facilities are immaculate. There is one large room which incorporates toilet, shower and wash basin.there is another which is for washing up. There is also a separate Toilet. This does not sound a lot but it is only a small site so it,s quite ample. The site is Ideally situated for touring the beautiful surroundings and also fishing at various reservoirs. I went fishing at Grassholme which is about 5 minutes drive and when I returned the owner offered to either freeze or vacuum pack the trout and keep them until we left. There are not really pubs or shops within walking distance unless you are willing to walk down dark narrow winding country lanes at night so bring your own wine and admire the views outside your tent or caravan while drinking it. All in all a superb small friendly site with marvellous views run by friendly, helpful and genuine owners.

This is a excellent camp site. The owners are really friendly and will go out of the way to help you. They will even show you around the farm if you ask nicely. It is a quiet sight only small but beautiful scenery and the ground flat so no worries about things sliding off your table. Overall a fantastic place to visit and me and my partner go there as often as we can. We come from Liverpool and the three hour drive is well worth it. The toilets and shower areas are spotless. There are electric hookups and even were we like to pitch the owner supplies us with a lead from his barn to supply us with electric (how kind is that) We would recommend this lovely camp site to anyone who wants a quiet relaxing break away in an area of outstanding beauty.
