Great site very clean facilities, with quite pitches. Very warm welcome from the initial phone booking to leaving site.

Stayed with my wife our son and two dogs, following a visit to beamish before carrying on North. The local are offered lots to do and kept everyone entertained, however younger children may struggle on site with no playground.

Good walking for the dogs is right on the doorstep with lovely views into the valley and woods surrounding.

Will be visiting again

Visited this site for one night on a sunny weekend. When booking and on arrival warden was lovely and very helpful. The site is nicely laid out, with hard standing pitches.

Site is in a lovely setting, with a popular cycle track next to it. Excellent for walking dog.

Facilities were very good, toilets were spotless though access was out of site gate, cut across the track, to gate opposite. Not very far. But I wouldn't be comfortable at night going to toilet block.

The site is very peaceful and quiet. Think it best suits older, retirement age. There is no children's park on site. I felt it did not suit me, my husband, 4 young children and a dog as we seemed to be the only ones making any noise.

To sum up lovely little site, helpful friendly warden, nice and clean toilets, quiet and peaceful. Good value for money. No children's facilities.

Arrived on tuesday 1. 7. 2013, first time in my old silverline tourer, made a hash of reversing on to pitch but Janet the site owner kindly came over and helped me push van in to place, unfortunately my 240 hook up lead was to short to reach hook up point but again Janet came to the rescue with the loan of a longer lead. The site is in a beautiful secluded spot

With fantastic views. The site is kept in immaculate condition. The toilet block is kept clean and tidy and all ways plenty of loo paper. The charges are very reasonable, paying £84. 00 for my 6 night stay, would have liked to have stayed longer but had to get home. But I hope to return another time. I must say that Janet keeps this site immaculate and it is a credit to her.

Great site, open all year, snow permitting. Nice and peaceful, ideal for derwent walk. Don't be put off by the weather. As I pitched my tourer there over the winter, will be doing the same this year. The owner is very helpful, site is kept looking good, even with all this rain.

Great walks on derwent walk, bike it if you feel fit, nice pubs in area, (the royal oak)great food.

Area is very dog friendly, and my granddaughter loves it there.

We had never been so far north with our caravan before and did not know what to expect, but we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We stopped for 14 nights in late July to early August this year, and what a great choice of park we made.

The park is well kept and tidy, the friendly owner could not have done enough for us, showing us to our pitch in person and coming across in the mornings to see if everything was alright.

Many people use the site for weekend breaks or as an overnight stop off point due to its proximity to the A1, there are even a few pitches with tourers let on a seasonal basis.

From the entrance there are beautiful views over the derwent valley and hardstanding roads, so it would not turn into a mudbath in inclement weather.

The toilet facilities are not the most luxurious but do the job perfectly well, lets face it they are in a converted cattle shed. They are cleaned regularly, warm with plenty of hot water for showering and well stocked with toilet roll.

The only downpoint is they are across the other side of a public footpath not great at night, you have to go out of the caravan area through a gate, down the steps, across the path and through the gate on the other side. However put it into context and its not that far, we have been on other sites that the toilet block is much further away, its really just psychological mind games.

In the local area groceries can be brought at the tescos metro in Rowlands gill or at Asda in Stanley about 5 miles away. In terms of attractions there is so much to do in the north east we travelled up to 60 miles some days but it was worth it (Alnwick castle, Lindifarne, Bamburgh, Seahouses and Hadrians wall).

More locally we visited beamish twice, you need the time as it can not be done in a day, Newcastle to see the tyne bridges and shopping, Durham Cathedral, Middleton in Teesdale (very quaint and feels like its in a time warp), High Force waterfall, Gibside park and the Sunderland International Airshow (a must if your there while its on).

All in all its a nice friendly site with good facilities and we will definitely be visiting again.

A gorgeous campsite! Situated in lovely countryside, this small site has great very clean toilets and showers.

There is a small shop selling all the usefull stuff, eggs milk etc and the warden on the site (Janet) couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful.

The site is about 12 miles from Newcastle and the metrocentre is very handy. The site is situated on the coast to coast cycle path.

I would stay here again 100%

I booked into the Byreside Caravan Site for 2 nights but we only stayed one night due to a lot of rain, the grass ground flooded, thunder & sheet lightning at 6:30am. When I phoned the lady said that the ground is already soft & we are due more rain, I drove on the grass partly as the stony road had a lot of potholes.

My fiancee is disabled in a wheelchair & I had to drive her to the bathroom as there were steps after the small gate. A disabled bathroom in the corner on site would help.

We had 2 dogs with us & they liked the site but not the weather. The owner charged me £3 extra just because I partly drove on the grass(how petty as grass grows with no tyre marks), we will never stay here again with the grumpy lady owner

I visited this site for a few days and it was neat, quiet and if the toilet and shower facilities had been in a convenient place, I would have given it top marks. I felt sorry for the campers, who may wish to go in the middle of the night, through gate, down steps, over path, then use key, and all this with no lights. It was no great distance but just so inconvenient. The owner was very pleasant and the price was very good compared to other sites and this compensated.

Just departed after a fantastic weekend. This was our first time camping and cannot fault this site.

Toilets and showers are basic but clean and the water pressure in the shower is FAB. We will defo be returning.

Only down side no other kids on site apart from our ten yr old so he was 'bored mam' but that's nowt to do with the owners or the site.

We are very happy first time campers/ Location is great and was easy to drive to Gateshead to pick up my son for the summer school holidays.

Even my 17yr old daughter was impressed - and that says something!

Despite the horrendous weather conditions, certainly unseasonal and the only summer camp I spent the best part of a week wearing wellington boots. This was one of our best 'summer camps'!

The Byreside Farm site is the perfect site for a family looking for peace and quiet, space and what a location where it is ideally placed for easy access to Newcastle, Beamish and beyond.

True, for tents particularly, the toilets/shower block are a bit of a trek (especially in monsoon conditions) but a small inconvenience when one considers the many advantages of this site.

Clean, well managed (credit to Janet) and we will definitely be back!
