When we turned up at the site we found that we had boobed and the booking was for the previous week but the extremely helpful owner juggled round and found us a pitch for the week.
The site is small and well cared for with about half the pitches apparently let for the season with nobody in attendance while we were there.
There are four unisex 'suites' comprising toilet shower and washbasin which is just about adequate although they are built in a ex cowshed so are practical rather than luxurious and you have to cross the old railway line to get to them (speeding bikes being the main hazard).
The old railway makes for good walking or cycling and, with a bike you should be able to get into Newcastle (too far walking).
It's a working farm so you can expect animal noise (the cows were particularly vociferous whilst we were there).
With it's good location and the friendly owner we would recommend this site.

The site was easy to find but I had phoned to check & was advised to follow A695 to Hamsterley as sat navs take you through very narrow lanes. The site owner walked us to the pitch - all hardstanding. The site is fairly flat, in a lovely location with a gate onto the Derwent Walk which we did in both directions. Good location for visiting the local area including Durham, Newcastle & Gateshead. Only 8 miles from the Metro Centre. The showers & toilets were clean & well stocked but they were on the other side of the Derwent Walk so OK if you didn't need to use them at night.

Booked this site on previous reviews. It certainly lived up to my expectations. Very quiet, wonderful for dog walking. The owner was friendly but left us in peace once settled onto pitch. As previously stated the toilet block was across the old rail track and if I had a tent I think it would be troublesome. I did go to check them out and they were perfectly acceptable.
Do not be put off by the narrow lanes, the entry from the Hamsterlet Mill side is the easiest.
We also recommend a walk along the Railtrack to the village, good pub and friendly people.

I just live 3 miles from this site and have cycled past it many a time. We stayed for the full weekend and had a wonderful time. Shower and toilets are across the derwent walk and are basic but very well looked after. Super site for access to derwent valley, Durham, metro centre(if you must). Very well kept with lovely hosts. Good few seasonal pitches with proper nice people occupying them. I don't know why I took so long to use this site but I am glad I did. We are booking for the 2nd week in Oct and will be there over the new year also. Its a small but perfectly formed site for that get away from it all feeling. Don't tell your friends tho' as I would like to think we could keep it a secret.

This site was chosen because of the good reviews I had read and would confirm them to be correct.
A lovely site. Well run and owners very friendly.
The site is surrounded by some lovely countryside and walk/cycle routes but is close enough to car it into Newcastle / Metro Centre if you want the chance to catch up on some vital shopping.
Would revisit this site for sure.

This site though small was well maintained and very clean and quiet. The toilet facilities are across a small track but are warm and very well cared for . Although it is in the heart of the country we were only 15 mins from metro centre shopping centre and 20 mins from durham city. Truly a lovely place to visit highly recommend this site if you want a quiet laid back break.

A very nice site and very reasonably priced. Well kept by the lady owner who appeared to do all the maintenance single handed. The only problem, which did not affect us, is that the facilities are on the far side of the old railway track, so probably better for caravans with own loos and showers.

We stayed for a long weekend at this site and found it very peaceful. It is slightly basic, and as has been said before the toilet block is across a track but not too far. The owners were lovely and friendly. We would certainly stay again.

We stayed here for one night on our way North to Scotland and found the welcome very friendly and the pitches good and level (very important if you're running a fridge on gas!). All caravan/motorhome pitches appeared to have electric hookup, but for some you need quite a long cable.
The site is a bit out of the way (the roads leading to it are quite narrow and winding) but the owners give very good directions over the phone. The site is quite small and quiet and seems to be mainly used by caravanners. It is very quiet at night which is good if you have young children.
Facilities are basic but very clean though only 2 showers - one male, one female - but as the site was quiet we had no problems with access, the hot water was plentiful and there is a power point in the shower block. Our top tip for anyone using this site is to make sure you have a decent torch, as the toilet/shower block is outside the main site, across a public footpath, in a farm outbuilding and you have to go down some uneven steps to get to it which can be a bit dicey at night.
As we only stayed one night, we didn't explore the local area much, but the site is reasonably close to Beamish Museum and the Metro Centre. There aren't really any facilities within walking distance though, so it is a good idea to stock up with necessities before you get there!

Basic but pleasant small site with hardstandings (not very level). Toilets are a short walk across a cycle track (old railway line) and are simple but clean.
Convenient overnight stop for visiting Beamish, being about 15mins drive away. Also about 15mins drive to the Gateshead Metro Centre for shops and cinemas etc.
