Visited this site for a one night stop over. The site was all very well and the facilities were good although not exactly value for money. But we couldn't understand what all the fuss is about as far as other reviews are concerned.

We couldn't eat in the restaurant having not booked previously and were asked to park our car in a particular way around and in a particular place. What! This is a caravan site not a 5 star hotel! Definitely over the top.

This is an outstanding site! The pitches are a good size. The toilet/shower block was first class and I applaud the fact that the lights are on a timer and that the showers are push controlled. If we are honest, which of us has never forgotten to switch off the lights or the shower?

The pool was clean and big enough to enjoy some exercise.

The laundry facilities were efficient and reasonable.

The staff with whom I came into contact were cheerful and helpful.

Within walking distance is the site of Battlefield 1403 with cafe and farm shop and the site is ideally placed to visit Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Ludlow and my cousin in Church Stretton! I heartily recommend this site.

Shrewsbury has long been one of our favourite spots for peace and tranquillity, amongst high quality campsites, so we were keen to try this one, but unfortunately disappointed.

Very strict rules on visiting and activities, timers on lights and showers in the block. The restaurant was booked up for the whole week we were there so couldn't be sampled, then a cancellation for new year was priced at £110 per couple. Site owner's comments: Time switches are required to comply with Bellamy award requirements. Obviously, if the restaurant is fully booked at peak times, we cannot physically accept any more.

Most frustratingly was the worst wifi access experienced on a campsite. They publicise it as being free access, however on one day this was merely 20 minutes in the whole day. They explained it is every alternate hour to stop people slowing it with IPlayer, but we found no more than a couple of hours each day, in brief spurts. You had to watch to grab them. This made it impossible to communicate with others without losing the signal. Disappointing when we wanted to send new year messages to family in Australia.

Booked on to stay for 2 nights, ended up extending and staying for a week(think this says it all) excellent !

The grounds and all the facilities are immaculate and all maintained to a very high standard, you can see how it is the only 5 pennant AA park in Shropshire.

It cost £22/night on a hardstanding for the two of us which makes it one of the cheaper parks in the area, don't think that the people in the other reviews have really researched this, think they must be used to staying on small CL parks

We also paid by credit card at reception no problem!

Ate in the bothy, super meal on the Thursday night, its not many parks with this high standard of restaurant on site. It Is only table licensed though which I suppose helps keep the park peaceful at night.

The only downside is lack of sun(suppose that's the joys of caravanning) but definitely will be going back.

We only stayed at this site for one night, as we we were using it as a stop-over before meeting up with family the following day. Very useful that they would take booking for only one night (apart from Bank Holiday weekends) - we've found that in the high season, many sites don't.

An adult only site - we have two children but for the first time, we were away in the 'van without them. Nice not to have other people's children cycling everywhere, when we didn't have our own with us! We were on one of two pitches close to water supply and motorhome waste water disposal point, and our next nearest neighbour was some distance away. The pitches overlooking the lake are obviously the most popular - a very nice view!

Toilet block good, but the showers have the dreaded pushbuttons - yes, I know this stops people leaving the showers running by mistake, but it is frustrating. We didn't use the swimming pool or the restaurant so cannot comment on these. I can't say that the site is immaculately kept

Shrewsbury is close, but we didn't get a chance to visit this time. We did, however, stop in a Battlefield 1403 whilst we were out walking - it's quite close to the site, and includes an exhibition on the Battle of Shrewsbury (free entry), a farm shop (not cheap but well worth a visit) and a lovely cafe (can recommend the cakes!).
All in all, pleasant site, useful location for us, but nothing out of the ordinary. Worth bearing in mind that if you want to visit over a Bank Holiday, there is a 4 night minimum stay and they charge the peak season rate plus £4 per night.

We stayed in this site for one night on our way back home, at £34.00 per night mid season for 4 adults and 2 dogs we thought it was a tad expensive when compared to other similar sites we have stayed on.

Plus side most of the site is well laid out with full serviced pitches, well maintained gardens and lake. Good sized dogwalk, fishing is available on site. On site restaurant which could have been handy if it was open. Toilets were immaculate and the showers hot with good pressures. The indoor swimming pool looked good but we didn't get to use it.

Minus side,

Limited opening times to restaurant. The toilets had a push button light which shut off leaving us stranded in the toilet block in the dark. Site owner's comments: Time switches are required to comply with Bellamy award requirements. The dog walk has a piece of fence missing which means the dogs could get out if not carefully supervised.

The site owners were friendly and helpful.

The site is ideally positioned for a mid way break between out home and the north of England so we will be using the site again.

There is no doubt that this is a more than decent site but I have to say that I consider some of the reviews a little over complimentary. The pitches around the lake are great, but the others are cramped, and boggy in wet weather. I found the staff pleasant. The site is well maintained but not immaculate. I arrived on Monday but could not use the lakeside pitches because they were reserved for the weekend. £20 a night is expensive for a boggy pitch that floods in a downpour and when they add £1.50 a night for the awning (21.50 p.N.). The toilets are immaculate and the pool a decent size.

Stayed for 3 nights at this beautifully kept site. Spacious pitches, excellent reception for tv, toilets and showers very clean and excellent laundry facilities. Didnt use the pool but it looked lovely and the coffee lounge proved very popular. We had a meal in the Bothy restaurant and it was excellent and not at all over priced.

We drove towards Shrewsbury and used the park and ride at Harlscott its only £1 each return, so no driving round looking for parking spaces in a place you don't know and you get off the bus right in the centre. Lovely variety of shops and a good market, well worth a look.

Only niggle, think £20 per night is steep off season, but you only get what you pay for and we will definitely return.

A good quiet site in a very pretty setting, however it could have been a great site

The site was £20.00 per night which personally I don't object to, however when you use the showers they have these silly push in timed buttons that you used to see a lot of in the old days, resulting in having to keep one hand on the button whilst showering, which was a real pain

Also although there were central heating radiators in the toilet block, during the 4 nights that we spent there, they were never on and at night time in October it was very chilly

Also the restaurant was only open Fri and Sat nights, so for the rest of the week it was closed and as there were plenty of caravans on site they could have been quite busy

All in all this site compared to a typical caravan club site which usually would have decent showers and heating was more expensive and because of the penny pinching you got even less for your money

We would return for the nice setting and lake

We have visited this site twice now and found it fantastic both times. The grounds and facilities are immaculate. The toilet block is the best we have ever been in. There are plenty of hard standing pitches that have plenty of space. The ground around them is very very soft during the winter and can leave your shoes a bit mucky when plugging your hook up in on some pitches. There are signs warning you the verges are soft on the driveway up to the site. There is a cash machine in the village shop there are also a pub and restaurant as well. Though I don't believe you could better the restaurant on site the Bothy. It really is out of this world. The service, decor, menu and quality all at a very reasonable price, would make it a crime to miss out on. Sunday lunch enables you to avoid the noon departure time. We will most definitely visit the site again.
