Just returned from a week at the Willows with our tent. Ideal campsite for plane spotters. Viewing platform is excellent for better view. Toilets and Showers are very outdated with much need for upgrade. No mention on website of charge for showers which are 50p. Showers and toilets not heated and open to the elements. When grass is cut all cuttings are left so they trample into accommodation. Pitches very close together. Be prepared for a lot of noise from the base throughout night and day. Mildenhall is only a short drive away and has all shops and pubs and takeaways.

Fantastic site, great location, toilets/showers nice and clean, the site is cheap and great to tent on!
Ideal for plane spotters with movements during the day and into the evening! for a basic tent during the summer it's £8 per person per night with a bigger tent just £10 per person per night.

We found this site at the last minute and managed to get a pitch for the night to attend a nearby concert.
One thing I think really needs to be pointed out is that the site is ideal for plane enthusiasts, but a potential nightmare for normal campers. The strobe style search lights on the aircraft landing field made it feel distinctly like Colditz in our van, and the huge military jet that took off over us at 5am made us all jump out of our skin. (This was closely followed by 4 'Typhooons' )
On the plus side, the site is well landscaped, the owner friendly, the prices good.
If you're looking to admire the UK's military budget spend, there's a platform overlooking the field - popular with a number of our fellow campers, most who appeared to be there because of the planes.
My rating for this site is based on our requirements as campers rather than plane spotters. Having read the reviews on here we hadn't realised quite how close the runway was and had expected a quiet little backwater. If you're keen on planes then it's definitely worth stopping by, if like us, you simply want a quiet, well tended spot to sleep overnight then I'd probably advise against it.

GREAT LITTLE SITE
We visited this site for a couple of nights and whilst we admit the weather was outstanding and the site was relatively quiet, it was a great stay.
No problem finding the site despite some of the reports on here, we researched it a bit beforehand and considering it is at either one end of the runway or the other. It's not rocket
Good security system at the entrance gate.
The place is kept very clean, smart and tidy.
Grass is fantastic and kept short
Facilities are good, not excellent but good.
Showers & loos are clean, tidy all work well. The shower time on 1 x 50p was fine for me although my wife had to put 2 x 50p's in for hair wash night (which is hardly surprising the amount of time she spends in there - only joking!)
The warden was helpful but kept himself to himself when needed
If you like or have never experienced military aviation you will love it and it's worth giving it a go if you've never seen these aircraft at close quarters. There's even a viewing platform which is excellent.
Oh and thanks to one of the regular guys for explaining so much about the aircraft and what they were doing, he made it very interesting. We asked him he didn't force himself on us
Otherwise, more than value for money - would we return to The Willows? yes without doubt!

Nice open site literally at the end of Mildenhall Air Base runway. An absolute must for any aircraft buffs.
Grass kept tidy, toilets and showers basic but very clean and serviceable. Helpful warden and also owner on site both of whom were friendly and helpful.
Shop in village 25min slow walk from site.
Dog walk a bit scruffy and overgrown.
Thoroughly enjoyed our two days of plane spotting where it felt that if you stood on top of caravans you could touch the planes. Unbelievable!

Found site fairly easily had not pre-booked, however that was not a problem, owner very helpful. Basic but useful facilities, toilets ok shower ok, sinks ok. Grounds very good, very tidy, grass short. Was in a tent(s). View of airfield very good. (my son enjoyed that very much). Warden helpful. Shower not recommended for a long shower but ok for a medium/quick shower. Has option for power supply (not required) water to hand, very happy with site. Ease of access to shops good. Only wanted to be near airfield so cannot comment about attractions other than that. Would go back. Cost was cheap or seemed reasonable at least compared to London (but as it was my 1st time camping cannot say otherwise however). Enjoyed it. Steve

Visited the Willows for the first time this past weekend.
Was rather amazed that such a site was not signposted on the approaching roads but did manage to find it quite easily. On arrival, we went to the reception area which was at the owners house off to the side. We were allocated our pitch and were told to pitch within the markings on the grass - problem being that the grass had not been cut very recently and the so-called markings were only visible when they were pointed out to us-owner said that he hadn't had a chance to deal with them yet. Also if you happen to overlap to another pitch you do get charged extra. We feel that there should be a play area for the children as not all are interested in waiting for the planes and the site was 'very cosy'- and although ball games were being played this made for several vans being hit with a very large ball-facilities were minimal but clean and showers are 50pence a shout.

Just returned from a two night stay at this campsite.
The owners 'squeezed' us in at short notice but we couldn't have been happier with our pitch. We were on a side field to the main field and had plenty of room as only three others in the field. The owners could not have been more helpful.
The facilities were good and the showers/toilets and washing up areas were clean and tidy. The area is quiet with a small village nearby and Mildenhall is only a couple of miles away. The RAF Base being so close was great even if the planes took off early in the morning and shook the caravan! A really fantastic site which is definitely worth a visit and is great value for money.

Visited this site July/August 2012, it was excellent,
The Air show over the site kept my wife quiet (no mean feat) she loved it,
We hope to be going back the last week in August if we can get booked.
The only drawback was it would have been nice if it had been an adult only campsite as some of the kids were a bit of a pain, but hey you can't have everything.
The toilets were very clean.
Thankyou for a pleasant peaceful stay.
