I really wasn't sure about this site when I looked round as it seemed really full and really noisy! However the friendliness of the campers won me round and I had an enjoyable couple of nights there. The site owners are either laid-back or busy at the pub (or a bit of both) and the site seems to self-regulate. It was pretty lively up to 10ish, then all was quiet. As a lone camper it was really nice to watch kids playing and have people to chat to. I'm really glad I didn't go off and find an empty field!
The site is in a lovely location with fells all around. I cycled north to Silloth and back, enjoying great views of the Galloway coast. Cockermouth was pretty much closed as it was a Sunday - poor timing on my part - but it has lots of shops and cafes and looks as if it's picking itself up from the floods last year.
The campsite is at the back of the Wheatsheaf pub, and you walk through a static site to get to the tent field. It is quite a long way to the facilities, but I found I got used to planning ahead - 'right, washing up to do. So take my washbag and brush my teeth too!' The facilities were fine, just one shower but ok if you got in early, and all clean. The single outside sink for washing had a mini queue from time to time but we just chatted.
I'd certainly consider coming here again.

Location - About 6 miles from keswick in a small village. Village has a small shop and the pub where the site is located. Nothing else is in walking distance.
Site - Site is directly behind the pub and consists of statics with the touring field behind. Field is flat and the views are good. Quiet on a nightime.
Toilets/showers - Really poor and in need of some urgent updating. Not really acceptable.
The pub - This is the main reason why we wont be back. The pub is a food pub only and if you want to drink you have to stand at the bar! unless you go in later on when the meals have stopped.

Well what a place, all you hear is wrong.
We got there and had a fantastic welcome.
The owners could not do enough for you even though it was very busy.
The views are even better than expected or described and the food and beer are out of this world and all reasonably priced.
The landlord and landlady are so full of fun every one had a great time.
We had to extend our stay as long as we could. My brother joined us and will probably be back a lot during the summer for the site and the walking.
Only one thing let it down and that was the toilet block, it was clean and functional but not quite big enough when the site is full.
Supermarkets are only 4 miles away but you are in the middle of the mountains in a very quiet location.
You could eat in the pub as long as you stayed, breakfast, lunch and evening meal.
Fantastic we will all be going back soon.

This site is set behind a pub in Low Lorton and has a mixture of tourers, statics and motorvans. The site facilities are fairly basic and in need of updating and showers are coin operated. Site fees were £16 for the night for hardstanding pitch with EHU, which was a bit pricey but, nevertheless, worth paying for the location of the site. It is within easy reach of some of the best walking areas in the Lake District with Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater within easy reach, all of which are surrounded by impressive mountain scenery. There's also some Forestry Commission land within driving distance: the Whinlatter Visitor Centre offers a base for decent walks, as well as a good cafe and shop. The Wheatsheaf is an excellent pub with friendly staff, excellent food and a good range of beers. Cockermouth is 4 miles away; Keswick is about 8 miles. Both towns are well worth a visit for shopping, eating and drinking. Well worth a visit and doesn't seem to get too busy - we just turned up on the day and faced no problems.

A group of us stayed at this campsite over the Easter bank holiday and surprisingly for a bank holiday weekend it wasn't too crowded. The site is flat and the facilities are reasonable although for some reason they close the toilet and shower block for cleaning for one hour every day! And if you camp as we did, the toilets are a long walk in the middle of the night. The campsite is at the back of the pub so very handy for a meal in the evening and a few beers! But if there is a large group of you and you've got dogs you need to get in when the pub opens at 6pm to ensure you get tables. The location is pretty good with lots of walking from the site. Overall, a nice quiet campsite.
