The Wheatsheaf Inn campsite is a ‘no frills’ site: EHU, a simple shower block and a single wash-up area. It does the basics, however, very, very well.
The site is conveniently situated near to Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere. The showers are free, the hot water plentiful and the 'paid for’ (£7. 50/week) wifi is consistently available across the whole site.
The Inn itself serves excellent ‘pub grub' and the staff are, without exception, all extremely helpful. For those exploring the western lakeland fells, this is an ideal base.
The village of Lorton (0. 5 mile away) has a small shop where fresh food, milk and local produce can be bought. For those missing the delights of larger towns, the 77 and 77A buses stop right outside the inn and, dependent on route taken, will deposit you in Keswick in either 30 or 60 minutes.
Which ever way round you travel, you will definitely see some of the Lake Districts best views.
For the solo traveller or couples this is a great site from which to experience the delights of the area. For families with small children or for young adults looking for an exuberant nightlife: this is probably not the site for you.

Very basic site with outdated toilet and shower facilities, which are some distance from the caravan pitches.
On the positive side there are beautiful views of the countryside all around.

Hidden gem, truly peaceful place with lovely views.
Perfect if you want to have a quiet break.
Not much at the site though for children, (as in play area) which could benefit the site😀
Short drives to local attractions.

Nice simple campsite, 1 shower in each of the male/female toilet blocks with 4 toilet cubicles. Facilities clean. The shower was ok, no queues despite only the 1 shower.
Site has static caravans, space for camper vans and and a tent pitch. It was quite a walk from the tent pitch to the toilet block but not too much trouble.
Owners pleasant. Dog friendly and the seasonal residents were friendly and welcoming.
Pub food was the main let down, it had some good reviews but overall we wouldn’t order a main meal again. The burger was hard/overdone, the lasagne was overdone and tasteless, however the chicken curry was lovely. Nice starters and delicious desserts. Shame about the mains.
A nice pint with a good variety of alcoholic drinks. Despite the meals we will visit this campsite again.
Close enough to Keswick and Braithwaite, not much around the pub itself.
Overall, worth the money and a lovely pleasant stay.

A quiet camp site in a Lakeland village with views. The Wheatsheaf pub sells home made food and drink which is good. Dogs are allowed in a certain part of the pub.
Staff very helpful and during the summer the bus from Keswick stops outside the pub. The campsite has toilets and a shower at the back of the pub.
The pitches for motorhomes and campers are hard standing and also have grass areas. The camping area for tents is a grass area at the top of the camp site.
Dogs are allowed and are advised to be kept on leads. Static caravans are on site in a row leading up to the pub.
Enjoyed our stay at this campsite and look forward to rebooking soon. Many thanks to the staff who go out of their way and are very helpful.
