We stayed here for a long weekend for the first time this year but its quickly falling down our list of favourite sites. Normally we stay here 3 or 4 times each year but this will be the only visit this year. Its bad points are now starting to get irritating and outweighing the good ones. Even the fully serviced sites aren't so attractive for me any more.
As usual it was raining and the sites at the bottom were flooded so we didn't want one of those. I had to wait over an hour on a drier site becoming free as the people occupying them wouldn't move off, (despite the staff trying their best), even though they were already 2 hours over the departure time. When I eventually got a site (remember it is a concrete hardstand) I had to hose 1/2' of mud off it that had been washed down the hill behind the previous night, before I even parked up. There was only one site out of the 30 where the awning area wasn't pure dirty Irish mud.
I also don't understand the logic of having the electronic entry system on the wrong side of the car. You have to get out of the car to walk round to activate the entry system - who thought up that bright idea???? I would hate to try this system if I was a disabled driver. What was wrong with it being put on the drivers side like every other caravan park???
I'm sorry if I sound negative but it appears to me that the caravan site isn't benefiting from any of the money that appears to be getting spent in other areas of the country park. This is an excellent site with a wide range of facilities and entertainment living off its previous glory.
Larne Council take note - Spend some money on the site - get some drains put in, any local farmer can explain how to do that, and re-turf the awning areas of the pitches - the site really is getting worse with each year that passes. Either that or hand over the running of it to the Caravan Club who know how to run a site properly.
Note:- These are only my impressions and opinions but they seemed to be voiced by a lot of the paying public that weekend.

I wasn't impressed with the area for pitching tents. The area is sloped and in my opinion quite a significant slope (cooker, plates and glasses sliding off tables easily). There are a couple of flat areas but they are limited to hold approx 4 or 5 tents. We unfortunately had terrible weather and the ground was absolutely sodden, so much so we were literally ankle deep in mud by 7am the following morning. We had planned to stay the weekend but it was just not going to happen, so had to reluctantly pack up and head home. The toilet block, showers were clean and bright. You're required to leave a £20 deposit for a key fob for the entrance gate and toilet block - all refundable when departing. While the weather didn't help I didn't not feel this was a suitable place to pitch a tent.

Excellent site!
2nd time at Carnfunnock and won`t be my last.
Great activities for adults and kids alike. Good clean toilet facilities.
Only fault I found was when we arrived at 2pm, the site we had been given was still occupied. When we enquired why, we were told that the client had asked permission to watch the Formula 1 race, which didn`t finish until 3pm, so we had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the guy to vacate the pitch. Not his fault. The staff`s.
My only other gripe is Larne itself.

Agree with all the other comments so won't repeat them again. Just one important point - The visitor Centre must be open for you to get into the site ! I think it operates from 10.00am till about 5.00pm - check in advance as without the security key from the Centre you are goosed!

Camping pitches were on flat ground at the top of a slope but still accessible by car, we stayed on a very wet weekend and the ground held a lot of water, the site has very clean up to date facilities and is very secure. The site has lots of activities but unfortunately due to the rain some were not available, the park is good but you can't see the children from the tent or caravan area.
The site 5 mins drive to Larne centre which has everything you could want. We would stay here again and for our first camping experience it was great.

This park has something for everybody. Well set out, plenty of space, tarmac car space for every pitch and room for a full awning too. Each pitch is fully-serviced with a good light too.
The facilities are great and kept spotless, free hot showers (now electric), laundry room, good sluice and proper recycling too. If you have your sky dish with you, you can get a clear signal from here.
There is plenty of room for children to play on the site or they can use the adventure playground in the country park (it's free, but some other facilities you have to pay for).
This year they have installed a new system for the gates, sluice area and toilet block - it's now a magnetic key system which is much better than the old key and padlock one. You need to pay £10 deposit for the magnetic key and £10 deposit for the carpark pass - all refundable on leaving.
The cafe in the park has good food and really good coffee and isn't too hard on the pocket.
There are no nearby shops or pubs, the nearest town being Larne, about 2-3 miles away, with shops, supermarkets, cafes, takeaways and pubs.
There is plenty to see in the country park, with visiting bands playing on some Sundays or talks about the wildlife. Get a free map from reception and visit all the hidden areas of the park during your stay.
During high season it would be advisible to book as even in mid April the site was full to bursting.

Only used this site as a last night stop over before retuning home on the Ferry from Larne to Cairnryan, but had wished we stayed much longer as there was so much to see and do. The site it self was not that big, it had hard standing level pitches for motor homes and caravan with hook-up etc. The tent area was terraced with a slight slope, unsure about the electric hook-up did not require it or see it for tents. The grassy pitches were easy for pegging out and quite well drained, very well sheltered all round by tress, with a view towards the sea. The facilities were very modern and kept very clean and tidy to a high standard, the showers had plenty of hooks to hang items up. The showers also had a folding seat most useful for putting your socks on etc. No shop on site but Larne is a few minutes drive away, for the kids well its set in a large country park and so much to see and do and play on. There is no one on site all the time so keys are provided for opening the entrance gate and wash / shower room. It is a well placed site for touring the Antrim coast, also very handy for catching the ferry from Larne. We do wish we had planned to stay for several days and made use of the nice facilities of the country park. We hope to return to Ireland and we certainly plan to stay at this site for a few days ore more,

As usual a spur of the moment decision to go camping, luckily for us the park had just had a cancellation.
The Country park it self is just on the outskirts of Larne approx. 3.5miles. Just follow the coast road and you can't miss it. As previous reviews have said there are 28 fully serviced hard-standing pitches. There is an area for tents but too us it didn't look that level.
When we arrived the staff were very friendly and gave us all relevant information and keys to the caravan park. We paid a £20 deposit and £10 per night inclusive of awning and EHU. The caravan park has its own perimeter fence with two large gates at the entrance these are to be locked at all times, you are given keys for these and the amenities block.
We did think that the pitches were quite close together once you had your awning up. The pitch is one large hard standing, one side of the service pillar is for the car the other for your unit.
The amenities block was immaculate and modern, there are laundry facilities - clothes washing up etc. Also family washroom plus toilets and four showers (same for male/female)one being for disabled people and hairdryers.
For the children there isn't actually a play park within the caravan park but you can easily access all the other amenities mentioned before via the main gate or little footpath. Our four were entertained just playing in a wooded area at the back of our pitch.
The main reception has lots of tourist information for around the area and timings for things that are happening in the country park itself. There is also a little coffee shop to the rear.
Larne is the nearest place I would say to buy your groceries, we decided to walk there it seemed to take forever.
We will definitely go back next year as the views are wonderful from the park you can see across the bay towards the lighthouse which is on a little group of islands called The Maidens.

Great site if you have children as there is loads to do - maze, Crazy Golf, Miniature Railway, etc etc. But not sure what attractions there are further afield. The site itself is particularly good for caravans with each van having its own light and water point. Tents, however, seem to get the bit of land which they could not really find another use for. It's mainly on a slope with a few flat areas. As it was very wet when we arrived flat surfaces were at a premium and these were very soggy. Caravans definitely get the best deal here and I must say they are well catered for. The new toilet and shower facilities are excellent with every camping need being well catered for. They are very modern and comprehensive, providing plenty of showers, laundry/washing up room, disabled facilities etc all being kept beautifully clean. The staff themselves are very pleasant and helpful. We were a little disappointed with the cafe as it does not open until 10.00 and then closes around tea time so a bit restrictive if you are thinking of using them for breakfast or evening meal. The food was good and reasonably priced but restricted to sandwiches, jacket potatoes, toasties etc. The site is only 3 miles away from Larne which has takeaways and also makes it very handy for the ferry.

August 2005 Superb Caravan/Camping Site. Facilities are excellent. Lovely shower block with 4 seperate showers and 4 toilets and wash basins in the Ladies and 5 seperate showers and the usual toilets and mens stuff in the Mens! Hairdryers in ladies (10p a go!) and a large disabled toilet. Also a bathroom and disabled shower room. Baby changine facilities and washer and drying facilities. The caravan park itself has electric hookup, water and waste disposal at each stand with a total of 28 caravan/motorhome spaces. There is a play park, putting green, crazy golf, 9 hole golf course, bouncy castle, train rides, a gift shop and a cafe. Also beautiful walks and walled garden and a maze and loads more. Dogs are welcome also. The only bad thing is that there is no shop to buy papers or milk or anything other than ice cream, sweets and drinks! But on the whole a brilliant site and probably our most favourite! Try it for yourself if you are ever visiting the lovely Antrim Coast.
