We only live about 10 minutes from Tallington lakes and we've only been here in the past to use the dry ski slope and ski shop and we had never realised how big the site was or how many lakes there were.
Our trip was to try out the new van and to make sure we had everything we needed before going a bit further. Pitches are nice and big and plenty of room between them which was handy for my poor attempts at reversing :) Grass was nice and short on the pitches and hedges separating the rows which adds to the privacy. We were on the end of a row which we were a little bit worried about with young children but there was quite a bit of room between the awning and the road. A nice tree as well offered some shade while being far enough away to not drop sap all over us. Some of the pitches were in a crescent which would be nice for a group of friends with their vans as you would all be close by. Water/waste/chemical point was nice and clean with good access and drainage.
Swimming was expensive and the pool was outdoors. It would have been £14 for 2 adults and 2 children and then admission was either morning or afternoon sessions so that was avoided. We paid £20 a night which I think should have included the pool.
There is a play area for kids which is fenced off to keep dogs out and sand on the ground to prevent too many broken bones.
Showers were a bit mucky by the time I got there in the morning after the rush but then that can happen anywhere. What was missing though was a bench in the shower cubicle and something in the shower to put shower gel / shampoo on.
We went to the bar on Saturday night and they were only doing the bbq food which my daughter won't really eat and my wife spotted loads of flies all over the salad. We ate at the Whistle Stop which is on the main road where you turn into the site. Good choice of food and the garden has got some kids play things. Living so close I wouldn't go back there to eat as the food wasn't great. I'd recommend the Red Lion in West Deeping or The Goat in Frognall. Both very close and worth a 5 or 10 minute drive as it's home cooked food instead of the standard frozen reheated pub food.

Just returned from a weekend with the van at Tallington. Mixed view really, firstly its a great place, especially if the weather is good, if not, you might as well be on a CL with a lake, honestly. In good weather you get out and maybe take on some of the activities, we used the pool sat afternoon, and the ski slope Sunday lunch time. We had to pay an extra £3 for being there after 12 on Sunday, personally I cannot work this out as it doesnt cost them anything, they are more likely to get money from you anyhow, and the site was very empty.
I never saw any cleaners, that includes the pool and the site and showers, by Sunday morning they were very dirty, and covered in mildew. The pool showers were cleaner but obviously not used as much. You had to come out of the pool complex to go to the toilet which I thought a bit strange, that means using the electronic pass to go in and out, which confused a lot of people with families as you can be only out or in, not in in in. The pool and area was a bit dirty and grubby, it had not been cleaned for some time, there were lots of debris on the bottom of the pool which put my daughter off. The glass surrounding the pool which they talk about in the brochure, had not been cleaned for a while, it was generally covered in cobwebs and spider nests, but a great area to watch speed boats go back and forth.
The actual area for caravans and tents is very nice and well kept, the pitches are a good size and well thought out, but I think there must be more up keep of the toilet block and pool etc, otherwise in a few years this site wil get a reputation as being a bit of a scruffy dump, the showers will seriously need an upgrade next year otherwise they will put a lot of people off. We were there in low season and with using the tabogan slope, (2 people) and the pool( 2 people) we paid an average of £25 a night if you like.
I would recommend this site, but be aware you have to pay extra for everything you want to do, including stay after 12 on Sunday and also I had to leave my credit card details as a deposit when I went in the pool, use cash, they write it all down, even the security number on the back, I asked if they shredded it but said they would tear the page out for me when I returned the key, which you need to do, but not good from credit card security.
Would I recommend it? yes, out of high season,

We love this site, and go at least once a month from April - Sepember. We always find the pitches nearer the playpark the best, near to the bar & restaurant & great for our daughter to go on the swings, whilst we watch from the tent, the tent pitches are also more than ample, and can also park your car next to them. Downside is that they dont do electric hookups for Tents, which is a shame, but I do keep asking everytime, just incase they change their minds, if we could have that it would be perfect! The toboganning is great fun for the kids, and not bad value at £5 an hour, showers are always hot, sometimes a bit grubby, but thats down to unsupervised kids messing around. Great walks and very friendly staff, we would definitely recommend this place to anyone, and we are going back again in August !

We have just returned from Tallington (our second home). We have over 10 years experience of camps all over the country and can honestly say that we have yet to find one to beat Tallington.
The pitches are well maintained and spacious, the toilet block kept spotless and warm any time of the day.The bar is a little expensive for drinks but the meals are great value.
Plenty of things to do on site but I do agree with others that it is let down by the lack of an on-site shop.
Although the new swimming pool opened last year we have never used it as we feel that it is very expensive compared to the local leisure pool in Stamford.
I am sure that anyone visiting Tallington will enjoy the experience and please don't be put off by the other mentions about noise as we have never found this a problem.

We had a pleasant stay at Tallington Lakes. We took my in laws camper van for the weekend. Very nice clean and tidy site. The toilet block/showers were clean and tidy. The only negative comment was they have no shop, which is a bit disappointing. Would visit again with our tent.

We visited Tallington on one dry weekend in July and found this to be an excellent site, very big with plenty of facilities for all ages. A 2 hour walk covered about a 1/4 of the site. The toilet/shower blocks were immaculate. The bar area was good with friendly staff and a very pleasant open air area overlooking one of the lakes. We didn't have a meal but the drinks prices were about average. The touring site is divided into small areas, each taking 12 vans on graveled pitches and surrounded by landscaped gardens and trees with a lagoon about 100 yards away. The only problem we had was with a large group of people sited behind us who apparently thought they were the only ones on the site and considered it quite normal to have barking dogs and loud conversations until 1am. A word with the receptionist when we asked to move to a quieter area (which wasn't possible due to the previous week's rain) was greeted with efficiency and the information that the people concerned would be leaving the following day but she would speak to them. Once this was resolved we enjoyed a very quiet and peaceful stay.

We visited very late in the year and had the place to ourselves. The walks are wonderful, and the ducks know they are going to be well fed! I have visited on a day pass and the lakes are a very active place; dry slope, fishing, watersports etc. The lack of an on-site shop is disappointing, and the early wake up call from the London train is a problem. But the lake views and facilities are wonderful. The shower block was the best we have seen, and the hook ups and waste/water points close to hand. The security is very good, but I did have to pop back to the van to get the card for the toilets, doh! We would visit again, and recommend it to anyone looking for a well laid out and well equipped site.

This is a great site, but a right pain to get to. We went through Bourne and other villages and it basically too as long to do the last 10 miles as it had to do the previous 80, not happy, but hey, that cannot be avoided. On arrival, you park up and check in and we were met by a lovely lady who talked us through the parks facilities, where things were, what was open etc. They changed our pitch to hardstanding, due to the weather, but that was not a problem, in fact I was quite pleased. the pitches are a fair size and we managed to get the caravan, porch awning and car on the pitch with space for the bikes and chairs at the front of the van. the pitches we had had a good supply of EHU which never tripped at all, and we were running heaters and kettles etc. The toilets are well located from the pitches and even the further pitch is only a couple of minutes stroll away. Fresh water and bins are located in each strip of pitches, so never too far to walk with the water containers, and Elsan and Waste are also in each strip of pitches. This site has so much to offer, it has a large boating lake, where you can jet ski, dingy sale etc. There is a climbing wall and dry ski slope, with both beginners and experienced slopes. The walks on site are lovely and peacful with minimal vehical movement, and I felt totally safe letting my children ride their bikes (sensibly) on the roads within the park. There is a large clubhouse which overlooks the pool and sauna, however the pool was closed when we were there so did not get to try it out. The clubhouse offers a good variety of drinks including the premium lagers / beers and also has a menu available with bar snack etc. All was reasonable in the clubhouse in terms of prices and the pool table was just 50pence a game. The nearest shop is thepetrol station about half a mile from the site and you can get pretty much anything in there. There is a Morrissons in Bourne that provide everyting you need for a bigger shop. We did not go out other than to the shop , so I cannot comment on what attractions there are locally. Would I go again, yes but in the height of summer I bet this place is buzzing and not quite so relaxed as it was in the cold of November. One last thing, you have to be off site by midday and you pay £10 deposit for a barrier card, however we left at 12:10, so 10 minutes after and they charged us £3 for the late stay (which gives you till 6pm) , we had no choice in this as they only gave us £7 back on the barrier card. I was fuming, I know it is only £3 but what a way to spoil the end of a fantastic weekend. My advice is, if you are going to be 10 - 15 minutes late leaving, then walk over and return the card before midday and get your full deposit back, and then leave in your time!

Sited on a "hard standing " of loose compacted pebbles we found the site very tidy, very well laid out with pitches clearly marked and the toilets and showers were always immaculate. The staff were still cutting the grass, even though most of the site was empty! such as their attention to detail and presentation. Previous reviews mention the key card pass system for the loos and main gate, good thing, from the security point of view, and I would imagine that during the Summer months the "day" trippers to the lakes would take advantage of the campsite facilities if they could. We found the concrete works and East coast mainline (which are close to site) with the works especially, was noticeably noisy in the mornings. There is a level crossing over the railway about 1/2 mile away, condition of which is that the locos have to sound their horns. At least they observe restraint after 9.00 pm and before 6.00 am! There are some excellent walks around the lakes, where all the residential homes are sited, there is an abundance of wildlife everywhere with some very friendly ducks, lots of water sports to take part in and the clubhouse serves good ale and food at reasonable prices. As far as kids go I think that the children's playground was a little restrictive but very safe and fenced off but with so much space to explore and the opportunity of the "cherubs" to burn off energy , I think that Tallington would be a must site for families. I would imagine that in the Summer the bar and patio would be like the "Alamo" for the staff who we found were always very pleasant and well groomed. Recommend a day in Peterborough for retail therapy-a great shopping experience and a trip to the Cathedral is a must, just off the main shopping precinct. We found that we had to travel to find places of interest, as there is not a great deal within walking distance except for a pub and the railway line for spotters. A large Morrisons is about 4 miles away on the edge of Stamford (stacks of history, another good day out) and took care of all our needs although the petrol station at the level crossing had the basics. Enjoyed our 5 days, would visit again, perhaps I need to take up fishing again and also dry skiing and by the looks of things, rock climbing if that tower that was being erected is what I think it is.

We visited this site on a last minute booking. There are no EHU pitches available for tents, only caravans. The pitches are grouped around gravel roads and you can park your cars on the pitches. There are a variety of pitch sizes, ours was plenty big enough for out 7x5m tent plus car, but we would have struggled for space for a Gazebo. Our pitch was as the far end next to the toilet block, and we had some noise throughout the night from the toilet doors banging shut, they are operated through an electronic card entry system so shut with quite a bang. The card also operates the gate to get onto the site so if anyone is going to be going offsite with the car, you need to ensure you get an extra card from Reception (£10 deposit for each) so the people left behind can still get into the loos! The toilet blocks were very clean, plenty of loo roll and the showers were good, if a bit scalding at times, though there was a note warning of this. The washing up facilities were clean, although only 3 sinks so got a bit busy at times. Also there were no plugs in the sinks, okay if you have a washing up bowl, not so good is you have a plastic crate! There is a bar and restaurant onsite, full whack pub prices though so take your own if you want to drink at your tent. There was entertainment every night, but we didn't go to it. The pitches near the clubhouse would have had quite a lot of noise at chucking out time as we heard a fair bit of it at the other end of the site. Noise was supposed to stop at 11pm, but there were a family who sat outside talking really loudly til gone 2am, obviously not the sites fault, just inconsiderate campers. There is a fairly small but well built children's playground by the pitches. Probably not very suitable for really little ones, but fine for over 4's. There is plenty to do onsite, dry slope skiing, oodles of watersports, walks etc. Stamford , which is nearby is a gorgeous town with plenty of shops, a cracking arts centre, and lots of secondhand bookshops. Peterborough is nearby. For small ones I can recommend Twinlakes, just up the A1 near Melton Mowbray, a fantastic wet or dry day out. Finally I would recommend you remember to pack your anti midge stuff. Tallington Lakes oddly enough has lots of standing water so there are lots and lots of midges.
