This was the only site which could actually take us over the bank holiday weekend, unknown to me it was a Cartmel Race weekend which was why everywhere was full, we were a last minute booking though !
After reading the reviews on here regarding the site, facilities etc we weren't sure what to expect but we were really pleasantly surprised.
On arrival we did meet the owner, she was a lovely lady and most helpful but at the same time (as we found out over the weekend) she doesn't stand any messing/bad behaviour etc, on the Saturday night some youths did cause some trouble and the following morning she did tell them to pack up and leave
The previous reviews regarding the field sloping are correct but as we arrived pretty early on the Friday morning (only the 2nd booking to arrive!) we could pick our pitch anywhere in the non electric side so having taken notice of comments regarding the top of the field being level we headed up into the top left corner.
We were so glad we decided to go to the top because we had uninterrupted views of Morecambe Bay which was lovely. The site was pretty quiet until the middle of the afternoon when more prople started to arrive.
We found everyone seemed to be able to choose their own pitch until the site started to get on the full side and then campers were shown where to pitch their tents. I think the site could be a little more organised, maybe numbering the pitches which would show people where they should be pitched because of fire etc and we did find that once the perimeter of the field was full people were pitching in front of those tents around the perimeter possibly spoiling some campers views.
My friend has her own tent and has an 8 yr old little boy who likes friends to play with and he was really pleased because there is a season tourer on the site with 2 little boys who are a similar age to him so he was well sorted.
There were plenty of children on the site over the weekend but the facilities are limited for children. Apart from the woods or playing around the tents (which isnt really ideal) there isn't a lot for them to do or anywhere for them to congregate.
We did find the children congregated around the toilet block in the evenings which I can imagine would upset some people, we did ask them why and they told us it was because they had no where else to go. I really think the site would benefit from investing some money into somethng for the children, maybe an adventure playground in the woods, a football pitch maybe or even a games room.
The toilet block was clean and light, plenty of spare toilet rolls so no excuse for running out, a small table with plenty of leaflets full of things to do and places to go, about 6 toilet cubicles but there is still only 1 shower cubicle. The mirror over the basins isn't ideally placed, I'm only short and have a back problem so cannot really stand for very long so I would have had difficulty if I had washed my hair and needed to use the mirror, a lower mirror and a stool would be ideal, I did notice however that the toilets are not really disabled friendly.
I believe the owners haven't owned the site very long so maybe there could be plans to improve some of the amenities.
There is no shop on site but Grange is only a few minutes in a car and the Co-Op is at the north end of town and is open until 10pm so is very handy for those forgotten little items. There are posters in the reception windows regarding things to do in Grange, Crazy Golf etc, Emergency Dr, Vet all of which is very helpful.
There is all the shops you want in Grange and I believe also has a laundrette and as there isn't a washer etc on site it could prove very useful. Hazelmeres bakery is a wonderful shop and I agree with the previous review, I could certainly take 1 of every cake home they look that lovely!
Camp fires are no longer allowed and dogs have to be kept on a lead but at the end of the road there is a sign for the Promenade and I believe there is a perfect area down that road where you can let your dogs off for a good run, we didn't venture that far because of the weather but certainly next time and if the weather permits.
There is a walk around the woods which takes you around both some static caravans and seasonal tourer's which you can see those areas are being re-vamped.
We had a great weekend and the site was a lot much nicer than expected and we are certainly going back again, in fact I'm hoping to go back in a couple of weeks for a few quiet days away.
Would I recommend the site? Yes, as long as you don't want fancy and all mod cons but then again for the price of £12.50 non electric and £15 electric hook up I think its well priced and with that view. Well. What can I say apart from 'I'll be back' !

Just returned from a weekends camping with my husband and 2 sons. Had a fabulous time. Owners of the site were really friendly and helpful.
Toilets were clean but only one shower cubicle which caused quite a few queues.
The site was clean and tidy but appears now campfires are not allowed. The camp would benefit from a children's play area but there are signs of work in progress so it is possible that there will be one in future. Could also benefit from a little shop on site which sold useful provisions.
An explore through the woods brought us to Graythwaite Manor Hotel - a lovely old hotel where we were welcomed to use their facilities (bar and restaurant). They did bar snacks as well as having a proper restaurant.
Would definitely return.

Arrived on site for two nights no one at reception no information on door waited for approx 10 minutes then drove up a hill seen site
Not very nice, I booked approx 2 months ago for a hardstanding, phoned owner she said there is a bit cordoned of which I saw, this was next to 6 caravans which belonged to contractors approx 3ft away from our space very unsuitable, she arrived not very pleasant to discuss the situation with, attitude was take it or not. We moved up to the top of a very steep hill not very
Suitable for motorhomes or caravans, grass very long, toilets very poor who knows when it was last cleaned toilet doors no lock on the one I used.
I was informed that 5 mins you could walk into grange it really takes approx 20 minutes. We decided to leave after one night, I would never stay on this site again the worst I have experienced in over 30 years caravanning.
This site is just not suitable for caravans or motorhomes also being so close to the contractors vans posed a fire risk in my option.

The site is perfectly placed at the end of town which is only a 15 min walk away. It is however a very sloping field although we were lucky to get limited hard standing at the bottom of the field.
The dogs loved it and as the weather was great it was good to spend time outside. The one field became very overcrowded on day two with tents almost on top of each other.
The facilities were very poor. One shower for males and one for female and when we were there, there must have been a hundred people camping on the one field - not nice.
No toilet paper and they did not appear to be cleaned during our two day stay. If they put more effort in to the site it could be a super place to stay - loved the town

This campsite is about one mile west of Grange-Over-Sands. The site takes dogs, allows campfires, and campers can pitch their tent beside their car.
The pitch fee in September was £12.50 per night for one car-borne chap and a dog in one small tent. (This is at the higher end of my expectations for a basic campsite in low season - more expensive than many sites I've used but by no means the most expensive I've encountered.)
The site entrance is through a gateway on the east side of a minor road. A wooden chalet at the gate houses the campsite reception (the reception was not staffed during my stay).
Beyond the reception chalet, the approach to the site itself is up an avenue of static mobile homes, many of which appear to be lived in permanently. The camping field slopes up to the left at the end of the avenue.
The field is neatly kept, the grass well mown, and there are half-a-dozen picnic tables (a nice touch, I thought). The soil is fairly soft and takes pegs easily.
During my stay, I noticed plenty of circles of burned ground indicating where campfires had been lit; these were concentrated at the top of the field. There is no specific provision for children (such as a play area).
There is a level flat area at the top of the field but most of the pitches are on quite a slope. The slope is not steep enough to bother tents but I imagine it could cause problems levelling a caravan or motorhome. To the west, there is a hedgerow dotted with mature trees; to the north just a low hedge; and to the east a belt of established woodland. The site is not fully sheltered from wind but is not badly exposed either.
At the bottom end of the field is a level gravelled hardstanding for motorhomes. There are plenty of electrical hook-up points and water standpipes at the bottom of the field and also up the east (wooded) edge. There are fire control points all round the perimeter of the field.
The brickbuilt services block is beside the hardstanding at the bottom end of the site. It has indoor and outdoor washing-up, elsan disposal, and the gents section contains a urinal, several basins with hot and cold water, half-a-dozen loo cubicles and a single shower.
The services block has overnight heating (it was nice and warm in the morning) and the water is hot all day. The facilities were reasonably clean although not every cubicle had loo roll. A nice touch was the table in the services block loaded with free leaflets and guides to the area's attractions.
My stay was a Sunday night and Monday night in late September. When I arrived, there were only two customers; a touring caravan and a motorhome. The tourer left on the Sunday afternoon while I was pitching, the motorhome left first thing on Monday. After that I had the place entirely to myself. I did not see any staff or owners during my stay though I phoned to let them know I was there and to arrange payment.
The campsite is a few minutes drive or a 15 minute walk from the town of Grange (see other reviews for facilities in the town). There are two railways stations - Grange Over Sands and Kents Bank - within walking distance so this site would be convenient for backpackers.
There are great views southward from the campsite to the wide expanse of Morecombe Bay (the sea at high water, glistening mudflats and sandbanks at low water) with Lancashire beyond. On a clear day you can see Blackpool tower.
There's a path to the north-east of the site which leads past more statics to a patch of woodland - ideal for walking dogs. The same path continues to a housing estate from where you can walk down into Grange.
All in all, this is a nicely-kept small campsite which is very conveniently located for Grange and for the south of the Lake District. I can't comment on the welcome nor the campsite 'atmosphere' because I didn't meet anyone and the site was deserted during my stay. My only slight quibble was the pitch fee.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Quite a basic site, up a steep hill, only 1 shower,5 toilet cubicles, hairdryer socket in ladies. No playground. Had a great time over a two night stay, lucky with the weather and fellow campers were friendly. Campfires allowed.
Tent/Caravan pitchs in one field overlooking Morecambe Bay. Grange over Sands is beautiful. Local shops include:a bakery, 'award winning' butchers shop -very good for BBQ food & pies, their other shop around the corner makes sandwiches and cooked breakfasts to take away (yummy!),a Spar & a Co-Op.
Recommend a visit to Cartmel, lots of nice pubs to eat and drink. Don't forget to buy the Sticky Toffee pudding!

Spent 1 week at this site in June, view was nice over the bay. Campfires was a novelty, but the site was on too much of a slope for a tourer. Toilets were ok, I found that the owner was keen to cram people in I was surrounded by tents with fires blazing. Great for tenters though

A lovely little site with beautiful views across the bay. One earlier review did say that the field sloped so much that larger tents may struggle which threw me into a panic since I'd just bought a new large tent. Was going to take the my smaller older tent but in the final packing stage decided to risk it. So glad I did we didn't struggle at all.
The Toilet block was always clean, water temp in the shower could be a bit hit and miss but it always came warm again for me though my daughter did have one occasion when it ran cold constantly and in the end she gave up. Having said that this was at the end of the week when the camp site had filled up to capacity and this is when for the first time during our stay we were having to queue since there is only one shower.
Only a 10 - 15 min walk into grange either on the road or on the prom. Grange is a fantastic little place which I fell in love with, but then it dose have the most amazing cake / bread shop called Hazeldenes or something like that where I could have quite easily got addicted to there Vanilla slices. Plenty of little cafes etc;
Only one down side which has no reflection on the campsite and that is that there is no accessible beach I was surprised to see once I got on the prom that its mainly grass with sheep grazing on it

This is a nicely located site, just on the outskirts of Grange, with a Prom walk taking just 15-20 mins into town. We stayed in our caravan for 3 nights.
The weekend we visited there were over 35 units camped on the field. We had booked but they don’t really have any system, people just turn up and put themselves where they like. This can be a problem when you get a second or third row of tents in front of you.
The field is quite sloping. There is space for only about 4 pitches on the hard standing area, and then you get no view. If you go further up the field you will get the views but will need levelling ramps, and even then won’t manage level.
The electric pitches are along the right hand side of the field and along the top, but as mentioned, tents not wanting electric did tend to take up the spaces.
The site was very busy. All the electric pitches were full, there were tents forming second rows and there are also seasonal caravan pitches and another small tent area: all this and just 1 shower in each of the male / female toilet block. That is nowhere near enough and you had to queue.
Toilet rolls were put out each morning, but quickly ran out, so I would recommend taking your own. The hot water is hit and miss. The toilets didn't seem to be cleaned over the weekend we stayed.
There are no rules at all, and the owner lives off site. The site does tend to attract groups. People light open fires wherever they like, and stay up to whatever time they like drinking. We were unlucky enough to have a group of 3 cars full of teenagers descend on us Saturday night and set up camp right in front of us. A large fire followed and they were up until the early hours partying. If this sort of thing bothers you, then this is not the site for you.
Hazelmere Café and Bakery in Grange is fantastic. The only problem is choosing what to have because the cakes they bake are fantastic: try the Bee Sting; Cumberland Rum Nicky or the double vanilla slice! There is also a very good fish & chip shop opp. The coop, which now also does take away pizza.
All in all, a great location and probably at it's best when it's not too busy.

First impression was a nice site, large slope with only a few level pitches at the top, had to ring owner for toilet paper after 12 hours of waiting for them to be filled, then hand towels ran out, not filled when we left two days later.
Mens toilet block was not cleaned in the 4 days we were there, very poor. Although toilet block is old, there can be no excuse for poor hygiene facilities,
