Made use of the holding field as arrived early am after an overnight drive. Very helpful friendly staff. Shop well stocked, toilets/showers etc all very good and clean.

Local pub welcomes dogs and serves great food, very short walk from the site. Need a car to get into Hayle if you want to shop, only 10 minutes drive and everything you can need is there.

Takeaways will deliver to the campsite. Chippy van comes on site twice a week but not that great we thought.

Right on the beach, short walk through the dunes, dogs not allowed on direct beach to the site during the day, need to walk along dunes further along the bay if you want to do this.

Plenty to do in surrounding area, it's Cornwall after all!

The 'Family 1997'. Review was spot on. Me and the wife have just had a nice weekend camping at this campsite but little things do get on your nervous. The showers are of the push button type, you have to push the blinking things every 17 seconds, sounds picky I know but I spent more time pushing than washing. !

What really spoilt the weekend was people walking past and through our pitch. This is because we were near the toilet block and reception, people just don't care and don't think. The kids running round uncontrolled didn't help, I know everyones on holiday and are here for a good time. I did hear one set of parents say they were having a great time, of coarse they were. While they drank, relaxed and cooked they're BBQ. Their kids were running riot around everyone else.

One thing I did notice about the size of the pitches. They are of a good size but it seems nowadays people have the biggest tents and insist on bringing everything, and I mean everything from home. Unbelievable. No wonder there's no room left. !

To be fare, its not really the campsites fault. Just the inconsiderate english folk. Yep. And I am english.

A different pitch away from the reception and toilet block would have made for a different weekend altogether I'm sure. Oh well.

To end on a positive note. Nice campsite, clean and well maintained, great spot too. Give it a try. You will like it and probably go back again.

If I had any sense, I'd say what an awful place this is to stay, but then that would be purely for my own selfish reasons- stopping other people from booking a pitch before me!

This was our first 'solo' camping trip, in a new tent. We chose the site after visiting friends who were camping there at the beginning of the summer holidays. We fell in love with it, bought a tent and haven't looked back!

We booked very late in the summer holidays for the last week in August and were given a pitch on the 'overspill' field. I have to say that this was wonderful- large pitches, lots of room to move and for kids to play and not too far from the shower block at all. Unlike a previous reviewer, we did not find the site at all noisy, quite the opposite!

The facilities at Churchtown are super- very modern, very clean and well-maintained showers, hairdryers, toilets, laundry and washing-up facilities and a rather refreshing hot wetsuit shower. The shop has everything basic you need and some lovely local farm produce (I grew rather addicted to the hog's pudding). If you do want more (we drove to Penzance Morrisons, just to charge our mobiles) there is a large, local Co-op, M&S, boots, Lidls etc, just down the road.

The site is also opposite a rather lovely pub: 'The Red River Inn', serving great food and real ale- certainly a great place for an evening when the weather is 'unreliable'. There is also a Surfer's Cafe next to the beach, with a good reputation, but we didn't get time to visit.

If you do fancy something different, there is also a fish and chip van twice a week, I heard rumours of a curry van and a very welcome ice-cream van arrives about 8pm most evenings.

The site is perfect if you want to go somewhere to 'get away from it all'. The beautiful, lifeguarded beach is a mere 5 minutes walk- we didn't even bother with towels, just donned the wetsuits, grabbed the board and off we went!

The family take great care in maintaining the site and it is very reassuring to see the owner drive through the park several times a day, checking the pitches. It is this attention to detail that we are pleased to hand over our money for!

Can't wait to book up again- next time electric. My other half is at working, sorting holidays as I type!

We've just returned from a week here at the start of the school holidays (we're a family of 4). We booked the site for its location next to the beach and we were not disappointed. Just a few minutes walk through the dunes and onto an absolutely gorgeously stunning beach. The village is tiny and quiet, but there's plenty of food shopping facilities just a few short miles away and fabulous farm shop just down the road too.

The toilet block is new, light, airy and modern. The showers are free and hot (not adjustable, so a little too hot for some). There were long queues at tea time for them though, especially on a sunny day. The wetsuit shower is a nice touch and useful.

The pitches are roomy, but there is absolutely no space between the pitches, so although there's plenty of room for all your stuff on your pitch somehow we still felt a bit hemmed in on all sides.

Because there's no walkways between pitches we had loads of people crossing through our pitch to access the taps. This might not annoy some people, but it got right on our nerves - kids tripping over our guys, staring in the tent and not caring if they banged into things on their way.

The site is obviously used year after year by many families as there was a clear sense that lots of people were either there in big family groups or knew each other from previous years. As a consequence we found the site to be very noisy until after 10pm with lots (and I mean loads) of children running around shouting and playing until then. Again, this might not bother some people, but it's not what were after - we like a bit of peace and quiet in the evenings. Please bear in mind that we're teachers so always holiday in the school holidays so it's not like we're novices in this regard!

We liked the site because it didn't have a playground, but nor did it have any open space at all for kids to play in, so all the children (and there were loads who played together) just grabbed any opportunity to kick a ball about/play cricket etc where they could and this happened to be around the taps. Again, this got very annoying and no-one cared if they hit the tents with balls etc.

So, the site was good and the location was fantastic (which is why I've given 7/10) but we won't be returning because for us the atmosphere wasn't right.

This was our first camping trip. Recommended by a friend we tipped our toes in the water and booked the Whitsun week.

This site is beautiful, simple, clean and in a near perfect location close to the sand dunes and a wonderful beach.

We noted from a previous review criticism about the pitch system, for us this was a bonus, yes they are particular, and particular about every aspect of the site, and it shows, and for us this was one of the big plus factors as everyone staying there maintains high standards and looks after the site.

Pitches are big, nice grass and they work hard to accommodate your requirements. The facilities are excellent and very very very clean.

Shop has everything you need and if not, lidl, M&S and Co-op are but 10 minutes away in Hayle. Only grip is that a few more electric hook up's for the tent pitches would be a great addition.

We loved it so much that we've already booked again for this year and next.

Great aspect and direct access to beach through dunes from top end of site. The walk along the dunes is fantastic with breathtaking views towards the island and the lighthouse.

Loos and shower block excellent and very clean although my wife said the owner, in checking on the cleanliness in the mornings, walked straight from the male area into the female area without announcing himself which she found surprising.

Large pitches good access from all over the site to water and their were separate wetsuit rinsing facilities as the site is ideal for surfers. Plenty of electric hookups and you could have a barbecue on the stones provided to protect the grass. A short walk to the local pub which was very friendly and reasonable priced about £8 for a burger meal but homemade I think.

Not many facilities in the village and you have to drive a couple of miles to Hayle.

Overall good mixture of people and ages on the site and we would return and recommend to others

Well the site is as described, the beach was very good and glow worms live in the dunes. Great for the dogs and kids alike.

We arrived at 12 on the Friday and could not put the awning up due to the high winds. We did it on Saturday afternoon. We were told as soon as we had finished putting it up to take it down and move 6 feet up the hill as the pitches all ran from a number on the post up hill. This was a bit of a pain as the old lady who moved us had been patrolling for the whole time we were there. We found out later she does not explain the pitch set up on arrival as she treats it as a sport. So when you arrive make sure she is happy with your location before doing too much setting up.

There is a bus from the end of the drive you can get every 2 hours other than Saturdays and the pub in the village is very friendly with good food but you do need to book for the evenings and Sunday lunch.

The shop has bread bacon and milk but you need other supplies from the town.

After 3 years of visiting the neighbouring pricey campsite we decided to have a go at church town, we were not let down! its superb. The atmosphere was chilled and quite uplifting. Bearing in mind its been going for 40 years they must have got it right along the way. If you want a smaller site that's closer to the beach its the one for you. Good size pitches with free draining sandy soil. Immaculately cut grass and views of rolling fields to one side with (if lucky part sea glimpses.)

The site has a nice little shop and very unobtrusive but polite staff, the toilets etc are the best designed I have ever seen, massive, warm, light and above all. Clean. The site is next to the most amazing British beach I have ever seen and again has a lovely feel. My only critic is the life guards granted doing a great job were very jobsworthy. We feel that Cornwall is getting a bit pricey and thought although good the red river was commendable on quality but questionable on price. St Ives is beautiful but now five quid to park! avoid the lands end experience still! The minack is excellent and of course eden project. We ventured to the sand sifter and found it to be a bit posey for our likes.

Overall a fab time and the site will be revisited again next year for its ambience and location next to the beach.

Excellent site, this was our first visit and we're booking again for next year.

Excellent facilities, clean toilets/showers of which there are plenty and 2 good hairdryers in the ladies as well, all free. No plug points at all throughout the site unless you've paid for hook ups so don't bother with straighteners etc!

Laundry room is decent enough with 2 washers and 1 dryer so you had to queue sometimes. Expensive to wash though, £3.90 per wash and £1 for 15min to dry.

Good little shop on site, well stocked with basics and useful camping equipment, reasonably priced with some good quality local produce, sausages, meats etc.

Fish n chip van twice a week and curry van on Sundays so made a nice change.

Close to sand dunes with a 5min walk to the beautiful beach.

You MUST go to Sunset Cafe for lunch, the food was out of this world and the atmosphere was so friendly and laid back, our favourite place out of the entire holiday. The Red River Inn pub was 2mins out of the main entrance and the food and friendliness there was great too, very dog friendly with offerings of scooby snacks for every dog from the bar staff!

Loved it and going back hopefully next year.

Churchtown is a good camp site. It's very good and it's cheap.

The pitches are ample & whilst the site is on a modest slope it's not enough to cause problems.

The facilities are new, clean & in good condition (at last! Showers with enough hooks for all your stuff & it all stays dry).

There's a footpath through the dunes leading to one of the finest beaches in Cornwall.

Hayle has the finest Pasty shop in the whole of Cornwall (Philips).

It's a family site & everyone is very friendly & helpful.

Any negatives??

Sorry, can't help you there.
