We were 2 adults, 7 teenager with a campervan, car and two tents. Great value for money at £6 per adult and £3 for kids up to 15.
The site is in an idyllic location, nestled between the hills, trees ans streams, with the river running by. Toilets are well kept, and the showers are gorgeously warm, and free!
We stayed on the open field but will camp on the woodland field next time to be nearer the toilet block.
Tight turning into campsite so any vehicle larger then a large transit may struggle.
Wonderful site, friendly owners.

I have camped in the lakes for years but never knew about this site until my parents told me about it. The site is in an excellent location in Borrowdale, perfect for walking and mountain biking (two of the reasons why we went there).
The site itself is basic but clean and the staff are friendly. It's perfect for kids, especially if they make friends easily and enjoy running around in the woods
the site is also next to a river which is great for kids to swim, paddle and boat in. Most of it is fairly shallow but there is a deep bit that quickly drops off so kids who aren't strong swimmers should be supervised.
The site is split into two, , the lower part is more suited to people who like to pitch close to their vehicle and who want a level pitch, it is a long, narrow, rectangular shape with the track running down the middle, a bit like a street.
The higher part is not as level and is more circular in shape, , you will have to carry your gear from your vehicle to pitch on here. This is also where the toilets and washing facilities are, the showers are a short walk to the farmhouse.
For convenience I pitched on the lower field as I wanted to do most of my cooking from the van. For me(and my young daughter)though, this convenience came at a small cost. The top field is much better if, like me, you like a livelier atmosphere, it is also better for kids to mingle.
I could be wrong but I put this down to the shape of the fields and while me and my daughter were settling for bed along with the rest of the people on our field, we could hear the 'buzz' coming from the other one.
So if you like an atmosphere where your kids can make friends, , Top Field. If you want it quiet, bottom field
Make sure that you are well stocked with food, drink etc as there are no shops close by, the nearest place is Keswick which is about 5 miles away.
The site is also a great base for walking, while I was there we did the Catbells and Castle cragg walks without having to drive anywhere, for mountain biking, Whinnlatter forest is five miles away and you could start the Borrowdale bash from the campsite.
It cost £9 a night for me and my daughter
Great site, will be back

We decided to go here after walking past the site, which is just off the Cumbria Way, last year.
A narrow road in and upto the farm, we got no response and a couple passing informed us to just pitch and someone would be along later to collect our money. Next decision is where to camp as there are 2 options, one is in the field next to the toilets where cars can't be parked next to your tent as there's a small stream to cross, the other is in a nice walled in field where you can park next to your tent.
We were at the field next to the toilets when in bowled about 50-60 kids who were stopping for the week, that was our mind made up and off to the other field we went, to be honest we were leaning towards this field anyway as we like to park alongside the tent.
The site is very picturesque and a bonus was the great weather we had, this though meant that the midges were biting. The small toilet block had 4 ladies and 2 male cubicles as well as a urinal, there were a few sinks in each with only cold water for washing. There were a couple of kitchen sinks outside this block for dish washing and again they were cold water only.
The showerblock was a bit glum looking but had 4 roomy and decent (free) showers in it, these were all unisex and one of them was larger so would probably be better if you have kids in tow.
The site is a great little site quite cheap at £6 per adult per night, spoilt a little by the distance between toilets and showers but it didn't detract to our holiday at all, as I've said though we had good weather, that trudge would be a darn sight less comfortable in the cold and wet though.
I think a site can be summed up by asking would we go again?
We most certainly would and we will.

Beautiful site; Back to basic camping!
We stayed here for three nights during my birthday weekend; we being my Girlfriend and our 2 Springer Spaniels.
Site location is spot on, you get the sense of being in the heart of the Lakes. The site itself is a working farm, which is served by its own track from the Grange. Fine for a car; not really sure if I would like to drive a caravan or trailer down the track though!
The Site itself is very basic; consisting of a cold water toilet block with sinks, and an outside wash up area (again with cold water). The showers were a bit of a walk as they were located at the main farm (again about a 10 min stroll from the campsite)
When we eventually did get to the showers; they we always clean and nice hot water.
The main campsite is located about 100 yard from a river side walk (which our dogs loved!) and 100 yards from a more hilly walk. To have a walk for the dogs in such close proximity is ideal.
The nearest pub/cafe is a 20 mins stroll in the grange; serving up home made grub. Prices are reasonable and the food is well prepared. Recommendation for the ploughmans lunch and Rhubarb and Rasberry bake!
Campsite is ideal for couples looking for a walking holiday, or time to relax in a quiet country side surrounding. Staff are friendly and we didn't feel like the area was policed as I have seen on campsites elsewhere.
I will definitely be going back. To summarise; Beautiful basic campsite in the heart of the lakes.

Still a fantastic site however I thought I'd pre-warn other potential 'happy campers' of the one and only pit fall of this site. Other campers!
Admittedly the weather was beautiful (well on the Saturday anyway) and it was the last weekend of the school holidays so it was busy however that's no excuse for the noise, music and loud chattering going on well past 10.00pm, past midnight and then on until nearly 2.00am.The dawn chorus was well underway by the time the noise subsided. We adults got very little sleep at all - I like my sleep and get grumpy if I don't get any hence this review.
This is totally unacceptable behaviour on any campsite and really quite upsetting on one as lovely as this one, but sadly all too common it seems.
Although not encouraged, groups are allowed and there were many. The same could be said for the unspoken camping etiquette of little or no noise after 10.00pm, not encouraged and not observed.
During the day however great fun was had by all, a raft made and launched on it's maiden voyage down stream and canoes hired at platty+ just down the road for 3 hours on Derwent Water.
We'll be back but will try to avoid sunny weekends and holidays! LOL
PS If anyone knows any campsites that ban radios PLEASE let me know (Grrrr) Thanks.

Just had a fairly relaxing 3 nights at this site, despite the ongoing rain. Site itself is in a superb location, with walks running from it and by the river for the boaters amongst us. We were close to the loos, but had a longer trek to the showers, which were hot powerful and free though.
We had called ahead as bank holiday, but you can't book in advance, which given we arrived on the Friday was OK. We were told that groups weren't encouraged, but then watched at least 3 set up on the field we were in. The site was mobbed by Saturday.
The children were in their element with the rope swings, rocks and woods and river nearby. We saw a woodpecker and red squirrel and heard a cuckoo, not having even left the tent, us that is - not the cuckoo.
Great value for money, £18 for 4 of us, 2 dogs and 2 cars and a large tent. We will definitely return, but probably not at a bank holiday.

This was our second Easter visit to Hollows Farm, a beautiful site in the Derwent Valley, a few miles south of Keswick, in the evening shadow of the tail end of the Catbells ridge, a short walk from Castle Crag, and a couple of hours' walk from Keswick and the foot of the Honister Pass, at a steady pace.
This is very much a small, family campsite, and so they have a VERY cautious & proactive policy of not allowing groups of 'youths' to camp there. If you want to be louty and stay up late, simply don't camp here. They are very keen on turfing off any miscreants, with the support of the local police. As such, the atmosphere here tends to be wonderfully relaxed.
The picturesque upper field is simply gorgeous, lots of trees, very sheltered (this means limited daylight hours in spring/autumn but plenty of morning/evening shade in summer), gently sloped so it drains well, and houses the toilet block, but fills very quickly and is designed for walkers and families with young kids alike, along with an enticingly dangerous rope swing for the braver ones. I got a knee scrape for my troubles - I'm 6'3' though and should know better.
The larger lower field is better for large groups but it still fills up quick. It's less sheltered from the elements (no trees), but the valley sides are steep, so at least you won't be woken by the burning dawn sunlight at 5am in summer. I'm told it can get a bit boggy underfoot if it rains a lot.
The Derwent is gravel-dammed here, with a large deep pool behind, which allows paddling, swimming and gentle kayaking above the dam. It's gently sloped, but about 7' at its deepest, so do keep an eye on young kids and those who can't swim strongly.
Both times we've been at Easter and it's been full by Friday morning. They don't take bookings, so you have to turn up early at busy times, or just take your chances. There are plenty of sites further up the valley.
Facilities are basic but good: M & F toilets (no electricity), washing up sinks with cold running (mains) water, large waste bins (no recycling facilities, but I imagine they would get contaminated very easily - you can always take your own recycling to Keswick), and a shower block a short walk away. We noticed that the toilet block has been modernised this year, although the massive & fun can crusher is now gone. The bins are emptied frequently.
I'm not a glamper so in two visits I've still never used the showers which are a 3 min walk from the upper field, past the very smelly cow sheds. They are, I'm told, very good and always hot.
B&B rooms are also available at the farm and although I think you would need to book those there was some availability on the Saturday.
There were a couple of yurts on the upper field this year, but I don't know if they have permanent residents or available for hire.

This is a lovely campsite in a fantastic location. We stayed in the upper field and were surrounded by wooded areas and rope swings which kept the children occupied for hours and helped them make lots of new friends. The toilet facilities were fine and didn't miss the hot water for washing up as just boiled a kettle! The showers were hot and powerful and the walk to them wasn't a problem and was very picturesque! Keswick is a lovely town to visit with a great park, shops and lovely restaurants. Would highly recommend the walk from the campsite to Rosthwaite which is just under 2 miles and Rosthwaite has a lovely tea room with amazing cream teas and homemade lamb stews and pasties from their own herd. We followed this with a bus ride back to the site in an open topped bus. Would highly recommend this site!

This is a real campsite in a fantastic location. We spent Easter here in our motorhome with the grown up kids in a tent. As we were in a motorhome we used the lower field as the upper field in the woods is not accessible for vehicles.
A word of warning, this is primarily a camp site and definitely not for caravans, our motorhome is just 6m long and I wouldn't want to attempt getting anything larger into the site due to the sharp turn in.
The lower field is relatively level and the ground appears to drain very well, generally important in the Lake District, although the weather was glorious this Easter, the best I've ever seen the Lakes.
The atmosphere was brilliant, there were a lot of families and the kids can have a great time playing in the woods or the river which is very shallow and very sake, some fabulous walks from the site and you don't have to be a dedicated fell walker with all the latest gear to enjoy what the Lakes is famous for.
The facilities are basic and maybe it would be good if they could get loos into the lower field, although of course with a motor home we were pretty self sufficient. No EHU but as mentioned this is primarily a campsite so not needed.
Only very small gripe was the bins could have been emptied more often, (just once while we were there) and with it being Easter the site was full and so were the bins, to overflowing.
No reservations allowed so turn up early at peak times. No marked pitches but everyone was considerate in terms of placement, quite a few families and groups camped together and at just £6 per night really good value.

Love this campsite, was a bit worried about all the children running around and thought we would get no sleep with all the noise but how wrong was I, all the campers were very considerate and by 11pm the site was quiet. We take wetsuits and buoyancy aids for the children to play in the water which is the highlight of this campsite, its location.
Its also a great base for exploring the fells. Rosthwaite is not too far away about 2mile following the river were there is a cafe and pub which serves lovely food and the children and dog are welcome.
The showers are nothing to shout about but its better than nothing and the toilet block is more than adequate just no hot water, but who cares! It's still one of my favourite campsites.
