Easter 2008 very cold and snow on all the mountain ranges lovely.

This is a really good campsite for small groups who are here to walk.

There are two fields but the main one is spacious enough- although I can see that it can get busy in the summer, the second one is down a very ruff track full of potholes and large rocks not suitable for standard cars even the 4x4s had problems here as well couple of cars where damaged leaving the camp site.

The other problem with the second site is that it is in a wooded area with a number of dead or dieing trees that need to be lopped back as an wind cause branches to full on to cars below.

The toilets and taps are basic but it's a campsite- what would you expect? The showers are good 5 minute walk from the main field and a good long walk from the second field, which after being out hiking all day was the most painful part of the day.

The site has got room for improvements i.E. Filling in the major potholes and installing solar panels to the second field toilet block for hot water for showers and portable toilets to the main field all would help.

Set in a beautiful location near to the river with easy access to all types of walks. A friendly site with a really laid back atmosphere. No home comforts but we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly

I spent one night here at the end of the summer season and had the non-group field all to myself! It really is a beautiful and quiet location that is full of the joys of nature - bats, woodpeckers, owls and red squirrels were all to be seen or heard - and the view up the crag in the morning is something to behold.

The showers are a good trek to the farmhouse - hard work if you've spend the day walking. They do look grotty but were better than the two NT sites I used the same week - *really* strong and hot!

Well worth the fiver I paid and look forward to visiting again with the family.

A great campsite for families though as previous reviewers have noted there tend to be quite a few large groups.  These could be quite noisy between 8pm and 11pm but there was no loud music during our four night stay Sunday to Thursday.

The main site in a woodland clearing is the better choice especially if you can manage to get a view of the crags above or the river below.  The only drawback is that it gets dark, and cold, earlier than on an open site.

There is a lovely mossy green mini hill with rocks and trees and a couple of rope swings, right next to the site, which the children enjoy playing on.   Showers good, warm and free but a pleasant five minute walk away.

This is a really good campsite for small groups who are here to walk. I came with two friends for a walking weekend and it just about had everything we needed. It is buried in the woods, with the Derwent just at the bottom of the field. There are several fields but the main one is spacious enough- although I can see that it can get busy.
The toilets and taps are basic but it's a campsite- what would you expect? The showers are good 5 minute walk, which after being out hiking all day was the most painful part of the day, but they are hot and the jet really strong so an excellent massage for hill-weary walkers. I've stayed in quite a few campsites and this one really wins for walkers who aren't too fussed about creature comforts.
As for noise- I guess it just depends when you go. School holiday weekend in July and there were kids running around and playing but that's cool- there were no loud radios blaring out trance music which we did see while walking past the other two sites in Borrowdale.

First visit to this campsite was a little mixed. The toilet block is located at field edge of the family site, and free clean hot showers are a pleasant 5 min stroll at the farmhouse. Had a perfect start to the week, however issues later in the week with noisy groups. After speaking to the farmer he readily had a word with them and it improved - definitely a result. Only other issue was inconsiderate people camping right on top of your tent - thought that the sign noting the camp was full could have been put up earlier to prevent overcrowding. Will definitely be back again to explore the scenic area.

We arrived here one Friday night after being unable to get into any sites in Keswick and having to head up Borrowdale instead. First impressions of this site weren't great. The toilets were in another field, and the grotty-looking showers were about 300 yards away up the road. We also appeared to be the only couple with everyone else in huge family groups and massive tents, and with no wardens or curfew it was noisy from 7am to Midnight.

However, it was a great site for walks, and if we had been in a big group with lots of kids then it would have been heaven. Plenty of other kids to play with plus a huge natural pool formed by the river which was great for swimming, playing on inflatables etc. Just depends on what you want out of a site I suppose!

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this camp site.

The site has 3 fields. The first had been privately booked by a very large family group and 2 other fields. The first field is very large with lovely views, but is quite a way from the toilets! This was not a problem until you needed the loo in the middle of the night! The walk to the toilets was pleasant in the day but a little treacherous at night in the dark! The showers too were quite a walk, but this time in the opposite direction! They were warm when ever you had a shower, which was nice and they were also free!

One down side, which would effect my decision to return to the site was the number of biting midges! I have at least 35 bites, most of which on my face and forehead! We tried repellent but this didn't do the trick unfortunately.

There are two campsites, the group site is easier for vehicle access but has no facilities. We camped on the main site, reached via a narrow lane. The parking area is at the side of the site so there are no vehicles trundling past your tent, great!
The toilets and washing facilities are basic (cold water only). The showers are free, plenty of hot water, but are about 500 meters from the site, next to the farmhouse.
There is no shop on site. Set in a beautiful location near to the river with easy access to all types of walks. A friendly site with a really laid back atmosphere. No home comforts but we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and will certainly go back.
